It’s 2019. Where are our smart glasses?!

Ғылым және технология

Whether you think smart glasses are cool or creepy, for most people, they're not a part of everyday life. But AR glasses and headsets - including long-running projects like Google Glass - have found a niche with manufacturing, military simulations, and even the theater.

What I really want is something that can clip into an existing motorcycle helmet. My motorcycle has a telemetry port where I can put a data recorder in there. It should be easy to get a bluetooth dongle that sends that same information to a headset. How awesome would it be to have a useful HUD in my helmet? Not the distracting stuff but speed, engine temp, etc? And maybe then also navigation from my phone as well.

As someone with ADHD i can't think of something that would be more helpful with staying organized other than something like google glass. Having reminders pop up in the corner of my eye, recording important conversations to playback in case I forget instructional details. If people have an issue with being recorded, why are they ok with going ANYWHERE in a city. There are cameras recording your every move in every store, outside every store, at red lights, etc. Nothing you ever do is private, nobody wants to record you, get over it and stop the prevention of development for the entire species.

I feel like they should talk about the most important technological limitations mainly being the small fov , the processing power required for it , perfect seamless tracking and most importantly price. it's not mainstream enough to get enough money to overcome all of these limitations and not mainstream enough for there to be enough developers to make very good robust software. it's kinda like the vr situation but much worse cuz the hardware is sub-par but for extremely high prices that barely anyone can afford, unlike even the early vr headsets that cost 400-1000$

Consumer AR is gonna be a thing that the average consumer becomes aware of in 2-3 years. it will start off being very expensive and a bit rough around the edges, but it will progressively come down in price while also becoming more advanced. My guess is that by 2025 AR is gonna be the new normal for many higher income tech consumers; and by 2035 it will be the norm for most people. Basically, you'll be able to expect most young people to adopt it by the late 20's, but many older people will be suspicious of it for a long time. I could see a 2045 where people who don't live their lives with AR are seen as rebellious or weird. like how in 2020 if you don't have a smartphone people will look at you like you have two heads. Interactive AR will change the way people interact with each other and those who don’t partake will likely find themselves excluded from some social circles as a result. A schism might form between AR users and the rest of society. Once they become a minority, non-augmented people might choose to form separate communities. Sounds like Deus Ex lol

If it will eventually replace smart phones, how would you casually interact with the content? Would you need a hand remote in your pocket? Is it all eye controlled? Little nods and twists with your neck? Eyebrow movements? Telepathy? Today most people use their smartphone on the bus, while waiting in line, at the library etc, everywhere, without drawing attention. Hand gestures are totally not an option, if you ask me, for everyday casual, in-world use.

Right now the tech is bulky, expensive, many parts of it aren't mature enough and because of this the applications are limited or can be easily replaced by any other screen. So for the consumer market AR isn't ready but its mature enough for the enterprise. Even in the current situation, I would love to test and try all these viewers but they're too expensive for that, so we wait.

These small and powerless devices have crappy 5 frames per second 144p graphics, and cost like a salary.... no wonder why they are so popular!

This kind of delivery style is now so common on verge videos. I just keep imagining Dieter in these videos. Why not have you own unique style of presentation instead of just copying the same formula.
