It’ll Do What We Need It To | Homestead Vlog | May 8, 2024
Today we are building a raised bed, moving cows, preparing a spot for our new 7ftx7ft greenhouse, and getting the cow milked. We both feel like we can get so much use out of this little greenhouse, but we've got to get it off the trailer first!
We purchased our greenhouse from an Amish Supply Store in Meadows of Dan, VA.
We built both our mom's raised beds for Mothers Day.

This brings back memories from my younger days, we had a milk cow, plenty of fresh butter and of course good cold buttermilk. Been a lifetime ago, mid 70s. I'm glad I found your channel, warms this ole Kentucky mans heart watching.

This brings back memories for me too. We would take the cream in a gallon jar and shake it until we got tired and we passed to the next person and so on until we had butter.

8x10' Harbor Freight shade cloth will be that greenhouse's best friend over the summer. Plants still do awesome and they don't fry. I really like it!! Such a great investment, for sure.
My grandmother used to scoop her butter out of her churn when she would churn her milk to separate the butter from the milk and then she would put it in some cheese cloth to strain the milk out of it and she had wooden boxes that she put ii in then she wrapped each block in Saran Wrap and people would come to her house and buy butter and buttermilk from her and they would bring a empty gallon jar to swap out for the buttermilk and that’s how she made some spending money for her and she sold her eggs too you could open her refrigerator and that was all you saw was butter, buttermilk and eggs sorry this is so long but I just wanted to tell you about my grandmother and Megan she was my mom’s mother and we use to stay with her and my granddaddy in the summer and you can probably tell I was really close to them and you doing your butter made me think of her
Very nice greenhouse. I was holding my breath when he was moving it. Whew!
“If I can do it by myself, I’m going to do it”….no truer words have ever been spoken Andy!!
Happy Mothers Day!
Beautiful greenhouse ,and don't forget to get shade cloth.
Liitle one with her bike helmet and bare feet cracked me up! Good to keep heads safe though right enough!
Andy you are a smart man when it comes to planting trees and how to take care of them and when and how you do the job Great Job Andy
Beautiful, beautiful greenhouse oh my God it’s stunning them. Amish are awesome in building.!!🌱🌱🌱
Patti of the Encouragement Channel is in North Carolina and she has a flower garden and she had a little rain Monday and I enjoy watching her and Papa Hugh her husband grow flowers and plant vegetables and she has a bunch of chickens and her husband has steers that he is raising I hope you have a great Mother’s weekend
The greenhouse is beautiful! You'll love having it!
❤what a thoughtful Mother’s Day gift!! Love the heart and soul y’all put in all you do. The greenhouse is going to be a great blessing! You both are like breaths of fresh air! God bless you so much! 🙏🏻🙏🏻💜💜👍🏽👍🏽
Sweet!your mom will love it! Your family is amazing!
Don't try this at home, a man's famous last words...looked a little shaky at first getting the greenhouse off the trailer. I like it !!
I absolutely love that greenhouse!!! When they start making more you need to tag them in a video because I know alot of people who would love to have one...that's awesome!!!😊
I was holding my breath when he was moving that greenhouse! Love it. I'm so proud for yall! Happy Mother's day to you and your mothers! Blessings from ms lesa in north Mississippi. Love to watch those kids. If they were close to me , I'd have em spoiled.
My granddaughter's mom and dad bought her a greenhouse exactly like that one for some kind of school project. I kid her and tell her she just got it to grow pot in. She just looks at me and rolls her eyes. My dad had a 10 x 10 one attached to the entrance to his basement, it worked great. in the summer time he would open the basement door and pull cool air through the greenhouse from the basement.
Simple Life Reclaimed needs to see this idea on KZread and yes I watch a lot of KZread and Simple Life Reclaimed is one of my favorites to watch and I enjoy watching them
ANDY. CONGRATULATIONS FANTASTIC
I was holding my breath with ya when he moved the green house 😂. Good job Andy
Hope you get rain tomorrow. I'm in Central Arkansas (Little Rock area) and we've probably had two inches or more tonight (Wednesday, May 8}. That was a nice Mother's Day present.
I laugh those cows they are live so funny the dog is sharp and I never seen the dog eat or drink he is loved I canned for 😅 years those children are so sweet butter I love never eaten cow butter but in around it’s chore I love you all you wirk be alert ‼️
Enjoyed watching the milking. That’s a nice hot house.
Yall, my whole body was tense while he was moving that greenhouse...great job Andy!
Andy does stuff just like my husband! I just close my eyes and pray.🤦🏻♀️
Your cattle are gorgeous. Fat and healthy!
Bout had a heart attack 😂 Andy is a hard worker! The greenhouse is perfect.
Congratulations on the greenhouse 🎉🎉 Great Video as always! Blessing prayed your way🙏🏻❤️🙏🏻
I did enjoy this video! I learned that Andy is gonna try to do anything on his own, 😄. I also learned that I will fall outta my chair holding my breath watching Andy move a greenhouse,😜😬😮💨! Reminded me of watching my brothers growing up. Just as I was about to hit mute and watch in silence, it was on the ground, lol. You two make a great team and it is clear that you both love each other very much. ❤❤ I purchased some windows that look identical to the one on your greenhouse for my shed to chicken coop remodel. We added hardware cloth on the inside as well. There are lots of reasonable fan options on Amazon to pull the heat out. If I ever stop keeping chickens I will turn that coop into a greenhouse, not likely though cause I love having fresh eggs. I love raw milk too but do not have a source for it right now. I could type forever on here, I feel like you are family, God bless all of you!
I forgot to comment on Maggie’s flower in the previous comment I left, but Maggie has got it going on!! Go head Maggie!! Kudos on top of Kudos. Can’t wait to see it all bloom. 👍🏽
My husband’s talking you Andy as that greenhouse was 4 foot off the ground while on the tractor “no guts no glory” he says and then when Megan says “takes my breath away” I’m saying “I’m right there with you sister.” Great job picking that greenhouse out; I love it. Happy Mother’s Day Megan!

Yes ! Fresh non pasteurized milk is fantastic and much better for you. Grew up on it .
AMISH ARE FANTASTIC BUILDERS AND FURNITURE. MAKERS
The old way to regulate temps in a greenhouse was to cut a vent or two near the bottom away from the top vent, and soak thick aspen shims in water and place them over the vents. As the hot air moved out of the top vent, the air coming in the bottom was cooled as it came in the bottom. Also helped keep the humidity up. You would just keep a bucket of water near the front with extra shims and each day you would switch out the now dry ones for wet ones.
Sweet Mother's Day gift! The compost looked amazing too. I love your greenhouse & where you placed it, it is so cute 😊. May need some shade cloth over the top as the days get warmer. Wow! Tha cream is so thick & luscious looking. I bet that butter is devine. Years and years ago, when I still lived in Oregon, I used to get raw milk & loved it. The state outlawed selling it -- bummer! Happy Mother's Day ❤
Nice greenhouse you can get cheap solar power fan that may help with heat
I enjoy y’all’s videos so much. What a wonderful life ❤
What a nice Mother's Day gift, that'll make a happy Mother🙂.
As a greenhouse grower, I would forgo the gravel and use landscape cloth instead. I leave lemongrass and a fig growing in the ground of one of my houses. It overwinters well and I keep a supply of fig and lemongrass without hauling pots and risking freezing because the roots are above ground. If you make narrow shelves to hold flats sideways about waist level, you can also put strawberrys in ground around the inside in the ground for early crop. You can install inexpensive auto matic roof or side vents. Google it. They work off of wax/oil in a cylinder and can lift at least 30lb. Eorks well for coldframes too. You'll need to pin the house to the ground or storms will carry it away. I'll help ya any way I can to answer questions about what all you can do with your little house. The house is so little that you wont need a fan with automatic vents. If you have high winds you'll need to disengage the vents and keep it buttoned up during storms. I would upgrade the skin to double walled lexan eventually. It can take the weather much better than that thin plastic that is on the house now. Double wall polycarbonate(lexan) is what's on commercial houses. Meghan needs a wood butter mold.
Andy's the man ❤

Megan your amazing too.just saying that milk looks so good. God bless
I love your videos..I got a little nervous when you were moving that greenhouse, but you did a great job !!! You both work so hard !!!
My kid's Dad wouldn't drink goat's milk but what he didn't know was I'd water it down a little and put in an empty jug from the store. He was never the wiser. 😉. I like that little greenhouse, it's adorable. If you can run an ext cord maybe put a small outward facing fan in that vent window to pull cool air in? Also, in summer maybe get a 60% shade cloth?
Love your site and all the information shared! Thank you.

I tell everybody about your site. I'm just fascinated with it. It's the first thing I look for when I get up everyday being an old retired guy from Texas and the cookbook is good. I'm not much of a cook but maybe I will be. Keep up the good work
You two keep up the great work 👍
It was our Saturday morning duty to churn butter when I was a kid. Mom keep the milk in a gallon crock and skimmed the cream off and put in a 1/2 gallon jar and we shook it until it formed the butter. That was the past time while watching cartons.

That's a sweet looking green house and you couldn't have found a better place to put it. There's always a spot of land somewhere that needs cleaning up that can be utilized for something. Since Friday evening, I've had 3.3 inches of rain here in Walnut Cove. Y'all have a great evening!

Yes thank goodness we finally got some rain!
You were crawling under the fence and I first thought you were acting injured to see if the cows were come to you like the test with a dog. 😂😂😂
Put a gutter up and 2 down spouts to catch rain water coming off of the shed that is beside the green house. Just a thought,

I was thinking he should have put gravel there under that so it wouldn't drain as bad under the greenhouse. Putting up a gutter would be good too.

You might want to get a shade cloth for the roof for the warmer months and for the later spring for your starts.
Love~Love~Love your Greenhouse!!
I’ve been seeing it in the background. I love the greenhouse.
Enjoy that beautiful grow box. House plants in the winter, lol
♥️✝️🇺🇸 I love y’all’s green house !😊
I love the way you start your videos. Hey Megan it’s me Randy. My son has a dog the same breed as you. Catahoula leopard dog. He said they are also called Cuse dogs and I thought that’s what you said yours is. He lives in Virginia outside Richmond.
We've been getting our share of rain and yours, too!!
I was hoping to see you eating that delicious-looking ice cream! Be blessed!
''Growed up junk hole''.......hey y'all we've got some of them too! I can't let Tiffany watch this......she's been want'n a greenhouse for awhile! Good job Andy on sett'n it up and spread'n the gravel! The butter looks great Megan and we love the Meadows of Dan area! Might have to take a ''Mother's Day'' trip up there. Btw, got about 3'' of rain down here in Sophia, south of High Point. Take care y'all!
Another very interesting video Thank you God Bless you and your family 😊😊😊😊😊😊
Awesome job moving it...did make me a little nervous when it tilted once raised, but you did it. You are so going to enjoy having it. We put a solar fan in our greenhouse as it is located where we don't have electricity.
Nice vid! funny animals following Mama for dinner!
Good morning, there is always something to do on the farm. The green house looks good and I believe it will be good for the seeds trays. The pigs are growing and they look great. I enjoy watching the garden grow and the animals. You did good getting the house off the trailer..I was tense up watching that.😂
That’s one job I don’t think I could do is milking a cow but my granddaddy milked his cows everyday
We have one similar built by the Amish in our area. We put an electric fan in the top peek .i turn it on to let hot air out. Ontario Canada
Oh my! I was holding my breath!!! Good job! 😊
I would send you some rain if I could . That is all we have . Can’t get the grass cut let alone get any gardening done. Have a safe and blessed weekend.

Oh man! I was nervous watching that greenhouse get set. I can't imagine how you felt Megan, I was holding my breath on that one too! He's pretty clever, though. Great job! Greenhouses are such a great addition. I love my greenhouse. I can grow sweet potatoes easy in there and peppers here in Washington. It gets pretty steamy in there. I actually need shade cloth on some days.
Great idea !😇!!😇!😇!😇!
Love the green house.you might want to put some landscaping fabric under the rock.❤
Beautiful greenhouse!
Love your greenhouse, it really is cute! And the perfect size for seed starting! 🥰
Hello from South Georgia love the greenhouse it should be a a great help with your seedlings
You guys need and old school milk separator..lol...I used an old Montgomery Wards hand crank separator for years, it never failed!
Oh I was holding my breath when he moved the greenhouse lol. I don’t know if this will work or not but maybe you could use a turkey baster to help you get all the cream off the top. Just an idea. Have a great Mother’s Day.
Love the greenhouse, really enjoyed the video.
That is a very nice greenhouse
Love the new greenhouse! 😍
