"It Gets Everywhere": Investiture on Taldain

There's not a lot of love for White Sand (Anakin hates it), but being the earliest entry in the Cosmere it's definitely significant. Here's how investiture works in Brandon's Dune rip-off. And perhaps the theory I'm most proud of yet.

Arent the microorganisms also on Sel? I remember it mentioned when I read Elantris. They were cleaning New Elantris of muck and grime from the buildings and Raoden mentioned that it was actually the microorganisms all over that had died when the investiture from Dor shut off.

I don't think the slime in Elantris feeds off investiture the way the lichen on White Sand does. They function differently, so I doubt they're related other than superficially.

A smart sandling would let the sun dry a human out first, but most of their prey are other sandlings and most of them aren’t shown to be very smart. A DelRak does die when it ate a live Kershtian assassin (at least in the prose version). Concerning slatrificafion: Brandon had said that he regretted adding this feature to the magic system and that he'd like to turn it into a in-world legend rather than something that is actually possible. Slatrification wasn’t even meant to be in White Sand GN Volume 1 but slipped in; that was edited out in the omnibus edition.

Is the sand that Hoid uses in his story for Siri and Lightsong from Tandain? It starts black and changes to white. Can Hoid give the sand investiture?

  • @TheCosmerenaut

I think the sand Hoid uses in Warbreaker is just sand; given that he also gets leaves and ash and stuff I think he's just pulling stuff from pockets. It wouldn't really be worth pouring out for a random story, especially considering how hard it is to get to Taldain right now.

one thing about why the sandlings would eat water-filled humans but not water-filled vines. I image that it's easier to get your water in single large gulps with no spillage (therefore no carapace damage) than by grabbing what is essentially part of a hose filled with water, ripping it open and hoping that the water doesn't spray their shell.

Ok after hearing about the ruler of the dark side of the planet, my mind immediately went somewhere kinda fun. What if the emperor turned out to be Rashik, the former Lord Ruler from Skadrial? Like he managed to get all the way here and set himself up as a ruler again, only now he knows not to be such a dick about it. There's probably chance this is true, but until it's revealed otherwise, that's my headcanon.

Unfortunately, not possible. White Sand takes place WAY before Mistborn, and considering all the other laws of physics that Brandon very carefully obeys, I don't think he's going to make time travel to the past possible. Also, have you read Secret History? It's unlikely Rashek could undo what happens after he enters the Cognitive Realm.

Here’s a massive question. Just this year I discovered my fantasy world was actually connected to several other worlds in a universe sorta thing. So, dealing with something vaguely Cosmere-ish, I’ve started really wondering more than ever-how did Sanderson form something so massive and (what’s more) interconnected? I’ve got a good start but he’s still far beyond me. 😛 How would you reverse engineer Sanderson’s process? (Start with shards? Lol) Maybe a future video subject?

He supposedly had this idea when reading books as a young boy in which secondary or even less important characters in different sagas where the same that traveled btw worlds. Then he also writted a story that was in a plannet that was HUGE and had all kind of magic systems and species and gods. But it was too much. So it ended up being like the super proto story that he ended up dividing into different worlds. He basically took parts of that huge world and reshaped them into their own ones... and then he took those ones and remixed and polished them until he liked what he wrote. Or that's what I've read about it

About sandlings, the sandling that ends up eating one of the assassin actually dies/dissolved from her blood.
