They bring back the 'good' kpop era where kpop wasnt just mush of multiple genres in one song. Which isn't bad. I like it in some songs, but Newjeans music is so clean and nostalgic for some reason. Its more about the groove and tune, not just stimulating and aggressive to the ear.

i mean technically its just an act so i guess people arent really mad(?), and they just debuted so they havent had a lot of crazy fans yet so i think they're chill. its usually popular idols whom people fuss over when interacting with the opposite sex

not trying to be rude but 4th gen kpop is just different. i’ve been a fan since 2nd gen kpop and a lot of mvs had love interests (ex. ikon-wyd, beast-beautiful, snsd-kissing you, shinee-replay) just to name a few mvs from 2nd-3rd gen. i do agree that newjeans is a breath of fresh air. their debut album is a no skip for me

I think my favourite is Hype Boy, then Attention, then Hurt. Cookie which is the one released on debut day I am ignoring as much as I can as it just rubbed me the wrong way. The other three songs were as far as I could see age appropriate lyrically, the choreo and the styling. They were really old school vibes, and cute. But Cookie let me down. The audio is bop worthy, but I was looking at the lyrics in the mindset that they are babies, and it seemed a little suggestive. I didn't want to judge it in case it was a case of translation being a bit weird, or if it's translated fine but I was just putting a western lens on something otherwise innocent. I was reaaaally hoping for one of those two cases. But saw a few reactions from native Korean speakers, and it seems like Ador did it deliberately, like the translation is fine and it's as suggestive as my adult brain made it, which is bad vibes all over the place. I feel like the way they did it, releasing that one last and getting so much focus on if it's appropriate for their age is probably another marketing strategy tbh. Their marketing for this debut has been so effective, and the collective flinch many people had when they saw the lyrics for Cookie has just created even more of a buzz. I haven't seen them promote it yet either, so I'm thinking if they don't promote with Cookie on shows then they literally just did it to get more hype and talk around the debut. The album is four songs, three of which are the title songs (Hurt is the only one not). Even that is a pretty unique thing to do. But I've only seen them promote Attention and Hype Boy. Hopefully it stays that way. Sorry that's a whole rant about a song you haven't even heard, but I was so excited for these baby idols, and that last track made me sad. 😅

@@jae8697 Oh no I get that. That's why I approached it with all the optimism I could, because I know euphemisms don't translate linguistically or culturally much of the time. I waited to hear the opinions of a few Korean kpop fans, and the ones I've seen have felt mostly unhappy with it. One went into detail about how some of the specific words used were strange, (can't remember exactly what they said but there was one about how they described this cookie as smelling nice, but the word for scent they used isn't one normally used to talk about food, and is more often used to describe like a persons scent or something - sorry my memory is mush) and made the lyrics questionable, and the fact the lyrics are addressing a boy to come taste their cookie, and telling the boy to come over to their place. Overall even if it is about the CD, they've left it very open to interpretation. I would be more than happy to be reassured by more kpop fans who understand the original Korean lyrics and can ascribe more accurate meaning, but for now I'll stick with what the Korean people on my feed are saying.

As a Korean fan who is also into New Jeans as you are, I find it interesting and somewhat surprising that Cookie can be understood or interpreted like that way. I think it's all about cultural difference. Like other commenters said, we have this expression "bake a CD" (transmit a content/file into a CD and) so most fans find it really clever and also a cute way to describe their effort, love, and their confidence on their music, as a cookie. As you can see out of their physical album, which ressembles a bag of CD player, CD means a lot to them (knowing that New Jeans is focusing on old vides, and that's what CEO intends) They do promote Cookie of course, they did a performance on TV. In general people in Korea don't think it's suggestive or inappropriate for their ages.

OMG so I just found out their maknae is only 14....danggg but they all are so talented tho!!

In the individual mv’s u can see that the girls were crushing on some boys that they “hype” so much, like “oh thats a dream guy”. but in the mv’s u can see that they arent that ‘perfect’ and even disappoint the individual gurl in the end. Ig Minjis mv was confusing. She’s into the lemon boy. (I’m actually not sure about what the prblm was at the end, but ig he had multiple numbers from chicks on his arm).
