my father would recite this poem to us when we were children.... so much so, that I know it off heart... what a great motivator... that is what my point my dad was meaning.... I CAN DO ANYTHING

There’s heaps of different versions of this but it’s good to hear the original. Nothing is impossible until you try and fail because the more you fail, the closer to come to the correct solution which allows you to succeed. I do love the comedy version of this though. “Somebody said that it couldn’t be done, but he with a chuckle replied “Maybe it couldn’t” but he would be one who wouldn’t say no till he tried. So he buckled right in with a trace of a grin on his face. If he worried, he hid it. And he tackled that thing that couldn’t be done... And he Couldn’t Do IT!”

Hmm. i do like this poem, but I can't quite agree with all of it. right after the line about dangers waiting to assail you, it says "but just buckle right in" "Who cares if it's dangerous, try anyway, a positive attitude will protect you" That's not a good message to give to people. You can't succeed until you try, that's absolutely true. On the other hand, trying doesn't guarantee success, or even safety. You need Caution to temper ambition.

How can it be sad when it’s basically quite blatantly telling you that nothing is impossible as long as you have the will and the ambition to succeed. Get knocked down and you’ve got two choices: 1) stay down, cry and give up or 2) get up and try again then keep trying until you succeed.

Thank you. I scrolled down to see if someone said it before I submitted the correction myself. It's odd the creator of this vid would do such a lovely job and forget that detail. It happens to the best of us I guess. As I grow older I find myself liking Edgar Guest more and more. When I was a boy I used to listen to his son, Bud Guest, on WJR Detroit. Well, I'll stop there. Thanks again for submitting the correction.

Great poem, well read. However, apparently, it doesn't apply in all cases. The latest example is when I tried to walk from New York City to London, England.
