@r j...This also happened to me when I was 11, I was at my grandparents pool at their apartment complex and I was playing with my group of friends I had there and well, one of my friends(obviously playing)pushed me into the pool, pushing me by my lower back and most of my body landed in the pool, for except my shoulders and head, so my head whiplashed back and cracked my head slightly open on the pool border which was made of tiny rocks and cement, I blanked out for about 10 seconds(from what I was told)and the pool was full of blood from my injury and I had to get stitches, however, I was very lucky(just like your son)that I wasn´t paralyzed or died for that matter. I hope your son was ok and well after his pool accident.

@@ps6474 I mean I get that it was an “accident” but at the same time you can’t do something dangerous and then be surprised when someone gets hurt. It’s like pointing a gun at someone, pulling the trigger and saying “oh I didn’t know that person would get shot”

@@abbigailcarr2725 Well yes, you are correct, one does have to be careful when playing around like in this case and possibly think of the consequences it could lead to terrible accidents. As much as I realized my friend was only horsing around I did think my accident could have been prevented and to think that day, the lifeguard was not there at that particular moment. When I think back to it from time to time, I do think...if only he wouldn´t have pushed me. As an adult now, whenever I see kids or others pushing others in pools, it makes me nervous. Although I was okay from my accident, I do occasionally get(for about the past 10 years)a deja vu like feeling/an aura which a doctor said, chances are the blow to my head is what´s causing this.

+laura In other interviews she talked about her friend, and the friend was truly devastated. Rachelle has said that it took a long time for her to convince her friend that it was an accident, because honestly it's something that everyone has witnessed at some point or another, a friend pushing a friend into the pool. It was an accident. Could you imagine how bad Rachelle would feel if that friend committed suicide like the other comments are suggesting? Horrible. Accidents happen. Plus, even Rachelle admitted they shouldn't have moved her, it's possible they did permanent damage because she insisted on being moved, we really don't know, and can't know. (Yes she was paralyzed upon impact, but sometimes it's partial and can heal, if you stabilize the person.) She's happy, and working on a family, and I hope that the friend who pushed her is okay, too.

My mom became an RN and ended up being his home health nurse. She would take me with her sometimes bc he loved company and would talk your ear off😂 He was a really nice person and would always talk to me about how dangerous water can be and to never dive or jump into water that you don’t know how deep it is. He would tell that to everybody he met. He was always so worried that the same thing that happened to him would happen to somebody else. He’s passed away now but I’ll definitely never forget him and the lessons he taught me as a kid❤️

you have to understand, not everyone is build for that kind of responsibility. if someone leaves a significant other after an ordeal like that..that would be much better than staying and eventually resenting that person. at least they know themselves well enough to know that they wouldn't be able to handle it. it has nothing to do with lack of compasion or heart. if anything it's knowledge of self. there's power in letting go of someone in the hoped that that person might find someone better to love and take care of them.

Well it isn't just about walking, a lot of intimate stuff can no longer be done, dancing will never happen again, possible problems with bathroom-issues, so diapers or people that need to get help with getting substances taken out every day. Especially superficial people that didn't *really* want to marry in the first place would defineately not go through with the marriage. I'm curently single, I wouldn't be able to give you my opinion on whether I would (it's been 6 years since I was dumped, I've forgotten what human love means and married my artwork instead) but knowing you'll spend your life, possibly caring for the one you love in your 'free' time, is a big thing. I don't want to put anyone down that's in a wheelchair, or paralyzed, but in some relationships it totally works well and in others (superficial people, underlying frictions and pre-existing troubles, whatever) it doesn't.

This happened to my dad at our family camp’s lake. Everyone dives off the rocks, but my dad slipped, just a little, before his dive and he drove his head into the bottom of the lake. When he floated up, still conscious, he was not taken from the water. We / and he were so lucky, that his friend, an EMT, was there and held him stable, just letting him float on the water, until the ambulance arrived. That is what his neurologist said saved his life and his mobility. He spent 7 months in the hospital and 5 of those months, were in the ICU. So for a while, we didn’t know what the outcome would be. Today, 10 years ago since the accident, my dad can’t turn his neck anymore, but thanks to his EMT friend, letting him float on the water, he can still walk. He was unlucky and lucky that day!

@@hazelnuteyes The problem with removing someone from the water is you are putting more pressure on different areas, possibly causing even more damage. You need a professional who knows what they are doing to stabilize while they are in the water and remove them only when it's safe. It's not guaranteed that they won't be paralyzed after but it give them better odds. It's the same with not moving someone if they get into a car accident unless you absolutely need to, you could move them in such a way to cause even more damage if you don't know what you're doing.

My Mom worked in a rehab center and ALWAYS told my 5 brothers and I to never dive headfirst into a body of water. She saw the injuries... the despair and frustration. While in college my brother Dan was in a crazy accident. Not water related. He was "tubing " down a hill at school and wound up paralyzed from the chest down. He knew immediately that it was serious and wouldn't let his buddies move him. He went into surgery shortly after arrival at the hospital where both Mom and I worked. He was lucky. It took years but he was left with weakness and numbness from the chest down. He finished school, later married and has 2 daughters. He's able to walk, drive and is independent. We never thought in the beginning that he would be able to do any of these things. Bless you and your family! I love your attitude and spirit!

It depends on the context of the question “asking how did you live with with this” doesn’t necessarily mean “how do you live to be alive now that your disabled” they meant “how did you live with it” with overcoming it, the recovery, building back up, about learning and developing and growing through a loss or accident. Im sorry but the question its self Isn’t the problem- its the people who takes them out of context thats the problem…

I can not even begin to imagine how much this couple has gone through. Thank God for her husband and how perfect he is for her and thank God he didn't react horribly and break off the wedding or any other bad reaction. This man is a gift from God to her. He was made for her and he is so supportive and calm and loving. I am so grateful that they met and she has him by her side. Poor girl. So strong and so, so beautiful. I am utterly inspired by her strength and her ability to let go of what she can't control and forgive and trust those around her after what happened that day. I am praying that her life continues to go well and that God watches over them. I am so sorry that this happened.

My sister was a pool lifeguard, and their safe keeping rule was atleast 3 people in the pool building at one time. The other two staff left her in the pool building to uncover the pool, all pool covers have a long ropey cord. The cord wrapped around her ankle dragged her up, twisted her around the pool cover. She had rope burns up her leg at that point, then she dropped, smacking her head on the pool side and falling into the pool. Luckily she wasnt knocked out, but it smashed her leg up, rope burned her with 2nd degree burns and left her scarred. She sued them, got alot of money and also every pool in the country, because of this accident changed their pool covers so it wouldnt happen again, because experiments showed that it can happen easily again.
