Whats worse is that people do know if they act defensively they will get the book thrown at them. Its called anarcho tyranny. If it was just anarchy that would be an improvement because then the criminals would be dealt with by the populace. But the offensive acting criminals are now the ones getting protection.

Hey, I agree. Years ago they had those guards there in NYC for about three weeks, then all of a sudden you didn't hear about them anymore. People should take a look at the actual MTA subway map to see how massive the system is. Not possible to keep guards at ALL stations, and the guards are only position at the tourist areas, like Times Square. And there is usually one or two guards standing there, with their back turned, on their cellphone.

But baseline this program is minimally effective in regards to the social and environmental (cleanliness, smaller crime, cramped quarters, ect.) issues of the area.

You’re assuming any of these guards know anything about conflict de escalation on such a large scale in a metric public train system whilst already being outstretched. This can go wrong scarily easily so it’s right to acknowledge how if it’s more safety theatre than actual protection. Having a gun doesn’t make a lot of ppl feel safe since there’s no gurantee that you won’t be shot if shit goes down that has nothing to do with you Not just dudes with guns. It must also be said that in many European states it has been decided to use the armed forces to guard public places and to allow the police to take care of other tasks. In Italy it is not uncommon to have army trucks garrisoning the most famous squares or some patrols in the major train stations, and this does not mean being in some dystopia, it is just that a state uses the resources it has to solve problems that are there. More than anything else, the problem here is to provide adequate training to the personnel who have to deal with similar tasks, training which unfortunately tends to be lacking both for them and for the United States law enforcement agencies in general.

As a current NYC transit police officer, I feel deploying national guards, state troopers and MTA police on those selective subway station is only for 'SHOW' and nothing but a political tactic for upcoming election. Just go to the 'hood' stations where real crime is happening these days..I guarantee you that you will not find a single armed national guard or state troopers there to deter crimes. Real criminals do not possess weapons in their carry-ons and back pack- they are all hidden close to their body, which police can not search without probable cause. Heck, searching random people's belonging is a violation of 4th amendment in first place. Just look at MTA PD selects who they search the bags- old 60yr old ladies or clueless tourists which will obviously obey the rules. Try to perform the bag checks where real criminals hang out. You will quickly learn how many people will curse you out/scream racism and would try to fight you for stopping. And even if you are denied entry due to refusing the bag check, you can simply just go to the other end of station and jump the turnstile. It's a complete joke. It is just sad to watch what this city has become and will continue to rot with this laughable liberal policies.

@@BladeFitAcademy It is a temporary solution to a long term issue, but it works, because, as was stated in the video, illegal firearm confiscation increased by 96% since 2019 and it's actually preventing people from getting robbed and/or killed. I do agree that they need to work more on solving the root problems, but the reality is this temporary measure is not hurting anyone other than criminals. I don't think it'll become the norm, but the possibility of the state going to war against crime will definitely be ingrained in criminals' minds as a result of this, so it plays a big psychological role as well.

From my observation, Democrats tend to prefer the feelings of others rather than their lives, or status. So long as everyone "feels" good and inclusive, it doesn't really matter if there's violent crime, wealth equality, or anything beneficial. It's about subjective appearance to them, and not objective realities. That's just observation though. They don't explain it as anything other than "You must be a racist right-wing nazi" when I try to learn about their priorities.

I moved back home from NYC after graduating college, just about 6 months before covid and quarantine happened. I was heartbroken at the time- I just couldn’t afford to stay in NYC and chase my dreams anymore, so I returned home defeated with my tail between my legs. A few years later I see the complete collapse and mess that has become of the city that I was so in love with at the time…I’ll call it a blessing in disguise in retrospect. I visited last December and was shocked at how drastically different it felt only a few years later. A much darker, scarier energy all around the city. Where before I always felt protected by the bustling public of NYC, I now felt on edge and threatened, even during the day.

I grew up and lived in NYC for 50 years. During the Koch years, crime was high. However, he had a simple method to address crime in the subways. He had at least one transit police officer on every train. Then, from 10PM until 6AM, only 2 cars were open, and an officer was on board. Yes, if you rode the subway at night, it was crowded (as bad as rush-hour) with only 2 cars open, but everyone felt secure, and I never had an issue riding the trains during that time.

The problem is it’s in a death spiral. Crime keeps rising, businesses are leaving, and yet still there is not enough houses. However, due to political polarization, and the fact that NYC has driven out everyone who would vote differently and help pull them out of office this spiral. So as anyone who even thinks to the right of Mao is driven out and only left wingers are left, then the policies get more and more left, and without that counter, things just get worse and worse .
