ISUZU MU-X 3 YEAR REVIEW - 90,000km || Good and Bad || MODIFIED Vehicle and Accessories Walk-Through

Автокөліктер мен көлік құралдары

G'day Guys and Gals!
ISUZU MU-X 3 Year Review! I have travelled 90,000km in my 2018 Isuzu Mu-x in 3 years. I have also modified the vehicle to suit my needs and be the ultimate tourer. This is a honest review on how the vehicle and the accessories have held up over the last 3 years of use.
The 2018 Isuzu MU-X has a 3.0l turbo diesel 4jj1-TXC engine which is a great motor with adequate power and torque. The vehicle is fitted with EGR and DPF systems to regulate emissions. It is also as independent front suspension and a live axle coil sprung rear axle. I have fitted all of the accessories myself and enjoy modifying and upgrading things on the vehicle to suit my needs.
This Review goes through the entire vehicle and shows you how I have customized things. It is a honest review of the 2018 Isuzu Mu-x and outlines some of the things I like and some of the things I don't like about the vehicle.
The Isuzu Mu-x is fitted with a custom rear drawer system with a brass monkey fridge drawer and titan single slide out storage drawer. This setup has been working great due to how easy it is to use. I have a dual battery system located on the back of the drawer system that charges by a Redarc BCDC1225D Smart charger and my battery is a Giant 85ah AGM. This setup is perfect for my needs as I usually just run the fridge and some LED camp lights off the battery.
The Isuzu Mu-x 4wd has a part time 4wd system that has a dial selector button. You can change between 2WD, 4WD and 4WD Low range at the flick of the switch. The vehicle has traction control but it is not very effective in off-road situations. I have fitted a Harrop E-locker to the rear diff of the vehicle and this has completely changed the off-road capability of the vehicle. The rear diff-lock ensures drive goes to both rear wheels when engaged, this means that you have 100% traction in the rear end all of the time.
Isuzu have replaced multiple items on my vehicle over the last 3 years. Including, Drivers seat base, head unit, fuel cap, front body mount, 4 turbo chargers, windscreen cowling trims, Transmission software update. All of these items have been covered under manufacturers warranty and I have not had to pay for the repairs. The vehicle has been reasonably reliable as in it has never broken down on me and left me stranded.
Driving the Isuzu Mu-x around town and highway driving I usually average around 10l per 100Km and get around 550-600km out of each tank before the fuel light comes on. I always fill up before the fuel light comes on just to ensure there is enough diesel in the tank to cool the injectors correctly.
Overall the Isuzu Mu-x has been the perfect vehicle for my family and my needs. It has been reliable and gets great economy. It is also very safe and comfortable to travel longs distances in the Mu-x.
I have fitted every modification to the Isuzu MU-X myself and really enjoy filming and teaching you guys how to do the same to your own 4x4 vehicles. The modifications I have done are listed below -
-AFN Bull Bar
-AFN 9" LED Spotlights
-Domin8r Extreme 12000IB winch
-AUXBEAM S3 LED Foglights
-Oricom DTX4200 UHF Radio with Town and country Aerial Kit 3dbi + 6.5dbi

    Great video Nick. like any car its how you use it that will determine the life you get from it. I also have the 2018 MUX LS-T model and love it. since owning it for a year now I have made some upgrades, snorkel, bigger falken AT3 tyres, 2 inch lift, roof racks and about to put on southern cross rock sliders. Lucky enough have had no issue with the vehicle put probably dont 4WD as often as you do. When I do go out it does take a beating though, so good to know what to look out for after watching your video. All in All a great vehicle.

Besides that I've had no other issues. I have heard also that other Pajero Sport owners (not me) have had the same issue like you when it comes to leaking fuel tank Cap. So it seems it happens with other manufacturers to.

If you made an in depth carbon cleaning video for the MUX or DMAX 4JJ1 (intake manifold / EGR ect) that would get some serious views, no one has done a decent one yet. Also, although you've had your suspension upgraded, how is the fully loaded weight with missus, 2 kids, associated gear, and additional weight of bullbar, winch, bigger wheels & tyres, rock sliders, drawers compared to factory GVM of 2,750 kg?

I'm looking more so at a towing ( a small van) and light off roading, do you do much towing in your Rig ? and do you have a mechanical trade ? as you seem to do all your mods so easily. it is great to find out the common faults of a vehicle before you buy one (the dealer sure wont tell you lol) keep up the good work i really enjoy your content.

    Thanks for a good report Nick - I actually drive a 2010 Hilux auto diesel and it has been faultless with 281000 ks now - your Isuzu is a good vehicle for your family/offroad needs and great to see the ‘little ones’ well protected - it appears Isuzu has some quality work to address for the next models before you can be confident of its build which can happen with new gen/model versions - I think that asking for over $50k now you would expect Isuzu has sorted out the issues as I suspect they’ve sourcing some cheaper components from China like the windscreen wiper arms - John in SA

  • @Herosade

    @Herosade

    Жыл бұрын

    Hi John from SA. I hope you realise china is light years ahead of Australia, for your concern about the cheaper parts is because the manufacturer decided to cut cost or just sourcing a alternative. You can't blame everything on china for things that don't work out. I've been working in Australian manufacturing for almost 20 years, and China continues to outperform us both in quality and in output, and they are alot cheaper. Of course of you decide to source a $1000 part with a $200 then really you're no longer comparing apples with apples, but this a companies choice, not because it came out of China. Thank you.

    E locked just has 2 electrical wires running to the back diff, easy to maintain and repair if for some reason an issue occurs. Air lockers have compressed air line running from engine bay compressor into the back diff, the seals leak, diff oil can pump into the air compressor and if an air line busts its a pain to repair and find leaks.

The other possibility is if you have a roof rack that bolts or rivets to the roof just check that it has been sealed properly. Most likely the firewall grommet though.

    Replace the Isuzu body mounts with the Holden Colorado body mounts they're a lot thicker and are much better than original, they think the failing body mounts may have something to do with the cracks in the chassis above the front wheel arches under the bonnet.

In regards to the chalky look of the plastic, assuming a replacement will suffer the same fate - check out Maxima SC1 Clear Coat.
