Isuzu MU-X 2019 review: LS-U 4x4

Автокөліктер мен көлік құралдары

The Isuzu MU-X may not be as technologically advanced or refined as, say, the Ford Everest, but it outsells it almost two to one. Matt Campbell finds out why, and if it's the best offering in the class.

From an owner of a 2018 Mu-x. 7.2L Hwy 8.4L City/100kms Sure its an old model but the 4jj1 engines long term reliability history and 3L capacity sold me. 5 star safety,5yr warranty, capped servicing and roadside assistance are welcome also.

Remember people, when it comes to 4x4 and engines.. Isuzu make commercial trucks, their main industry is commercial. How many other car manufacturers can you say that of? Had this vehicle for 3 years, hasn't skipped a beat and I flog it off road. Seen plenty of hilux's fail 😎

I was disappointed with your review, the MUX is a far better vehicle than you suggest, I had been a Ford owner nearly all my life but sadly Ford have lost me for reasons I won't go into, MUX for my next new vehicle simply because they are so simple, reliable and a really joy to drive in virtually all road conditions with great back up by the Isuzu company through an expanding dealership network. The other vehicle I had considered was the Jeep Grand Cherokee Limited, my weekend test drive was extremely good, I loved driving the vehicle but my fear was reliability, I then test drove the MUX and was extremely surprised at how car like it felt and compared closely for driving feel to a Grand Cherokee. I am not a hard headed off roader so I won't be taking it to the end of civilisation, I will most likely go for a 4 wheel drive version simply because I believe it may be a better resale option to have if ever I decide to sell. I normally keep cars for life if they are good to me.

I've had my 2014 MU-X since new, towed horse floats and car trailers with it. Been in some very sticky situations 4x4ing with Rangers, Patrols and Navaras. And I can tell you what, I'd stick with my Isuzu any day of the week. It's reliable and tough, and when I take it out I absolutely thrash it and take it alot of places my mates would not go. And it's still stock! It's a smooth ride and very family friendly, especially with the rear mounted dvd screen. A bull bar, decent sidesteps and some all terrain tyres won't go astray either.

Just like the simplicity of the mu-x. I have a 2wd 18 model LSU which serves as the family get around and it does really well. If your only doing light off-roading like this video then don’t bother with the 4wd, I have taken my 2wd through tracks some people would hesitate to take a 4x4. It has the clearance and if your half competent at driving, then it can do more than you expect. Noisey diesel? Yep, But that sounds like reliability to me and love how it effortlessly pulls along in any gear. Go the MUX! Peace

Coming from a 100 series V8 Toyota Landcruiser, Mitsubishi Pajero Exceeds x 2, the MUX and Dmax trumps them all... our family has 4 x LSM Dual Cab Dmax's and 1 x LSM MUX, and NEVER have we had a single issue with any of them. And as we live in Brisbane, we are all regular Campers/4x4's to Stradbroke Island, Bribie Island, Moreton Island, Fraser Island, and DIP/Rainbow Beach, and we pull off-road camper trailers... as far as we are concerned we will never own anything but ISUZU vehicles (and we previously owned RC Colorado's RA7 Rodeos)... and if you witnessed how I treated the Rodeos (with hydraulic tippers fitted) using my Bobcat for landscaping, you would shake your head in disgust... ISUZU is well built tough, and the 4JJ1 is the NPR bomb B10 rated engine meaning 90% will easily get to 500,000km without any major mechanical work!!! PS... And they are gentle on the back pocket at around 8ltr/100km.. Personally, I feel the reviewer was not being fair in this review...

@TyRCelto Exciting times ahead my friend, at the end of the day, whatever you end up with will be great... a friend here at work has just returned from long service leave tripping around Oz in his 2018 MUX pulling a 27 foot offroad van and he said the MUX was UNFKNBLVBL!!! .. they averaged an amazing 12ltrs/100km pulling that van across tough country tracks, and compared to his previous 4x4 (Nissan Patrol LWB at 19Ltr/100), they saved a small fortune.... Haha... all the best with your purchase my friend :)

I would buy one if I were in the market for a new 4wd. I have multiple Holden Jackaroos (Isuzu Troopers) and they have been nothing but reliable. They might not have the most advanced safety tech, but who cares, maybe we should just learn how to drive properly again. None of my cars have airbags and I’m still here to tell the tale😂

People should read the Product Reviews before making (probably) unqualified comment. Both the holden and toyota are having DPF issues and the 2.8 Prado is apparently only good for towing a box trailer. See the you tube test reviews. I won't be buying a 2.8 and ive dri v en all of these vehicles. The Mux is my pick and now just waiting for Isuzu to put a decent looking front end on it such as the Trailblazer. In fact i think it will bolt on being the same body shell. Those people that say the Mux is a shitbox, I have to ask if you own and drive a 2017 or 18 model? How do you arrive at that assessment? How has a shitbox been so successful and popular? Maybe because it's not a shitbox.

Anyone with mechanical knowledge would know that you cannot have a LSD with ESC and traction control. They would fight against each other. Further more you cannot legally run a locked diff on the highway, you simply can't steer the vehicle and just want to drive straight ahead. I know of no new ute that has these as factory standard, the VW has a diff lock but its use is restricted to low. What you get with the Isuzu is pretty much the same as most of the other popular brands. Don't forget that all the Holden Rodeos and Colorados up to 2012 were rebadged Isuzus anyway. My experience as a mechanic tells me the new Holden Colorado has been plagued with oil consumption and electrical problems. When you start talking about interior size you want to throw a tape measure from window to window across the cabin, you may find the biggest is not actually the biggest Performance comparisions on the highway tells me the Isuzu is not the slug many reviewers suggest. Go the Isuzu !!

The engines in these are reasonably quiet, the issue is sound proofing, They need to add sound proofing to the doors and panels etc. I run multiple 4wd vehicles through high pressure car washes... this is where the sound issue lies with the Dmax and Mux, not so much the engine.
