ISTDP - Avoidant attachment - My partner says I am depressed....but | Dr Sia - Session 1
This is a mock therapy session based on a real session. The client is an actor, Diana We, a brilliant actor who has agreed to help me make this video. Thank you Diana! The video is the 1st session focusing on a person who experiences depression and is unlikely to get better unless she overcomes here externalizing! As per usual, some of the client's comments and therapist interventions are not accurate or true to the actual thing but good enough as a learning tool!

This video is so helpful to me as a neophyte therapist. Clinical training would be so much more effective if there were more of this kind of video in which concepts are taught alongside videos of therapy in practice.
A very skilful way of communicating with the patient ⭐️🌈🙏🏼🍀

thank you kindly!
There are tests for depression, and a therapist can ascertain fairly quickly as to what level of depression a patient/client has.
Good, helpful breakdown of a session and the key defence operating with the client - good to have the reflective review at the end too - I am curious about how the function of externalisation maintains the problem, if indeed the problem is depression.

Thank you for commenting deadlypalms. I apologize for the super late reply! Externalization is a key problem to all psychotherapies. If you think about it, the tenets of psychotherapy is that a person has a psychological problem within themselves that they want to work on. Externalizing complicates this process through attributing the cause of the patients problems to a source that is external to the patients (i.e., my boss is the problem not me). I hope this makes sense!
