I watched Izzy at the event, he entered around 8am during the early prelims and watched every fight with passion. What a guy he truely cares for NZ/AUS MMA. Represented himself perfectly.

As great as Volk is, we saw what the Mexican can do and there's a chance he loses the featherweight belt. Islam is a mouth breather and has really bad footwork. Seeing Izzy and his support for his boy is so incredible and genuine. We all need people like that in our lives, and just watching this has motivated me to be that someone in my friends lives. Thanks for keeping it real Izzy, you're a real friend of Volk's

Volks probably fought the best against the Dagestani style. Major props. Great to see martial arts thrive in other parts of the world too. Also cool seeing Izzy and the squad paying respects. Loud as hell in that arena.

Man did what Kahbib did to his opponents to Islam in the very last round. Who da fuck attempt to takedown a Dagastani fighter. Just think Chalres a submission artist got submitted straight away by one of these guys. If there's a rematch, Islam better watch out. I can see Volk gaining a surge of confidence from this. He didn't lose by the rules, mate. According to the judging criteria Volk won that fight. That's the reason for the professional fighters thinking that he had won. According to the new criteria, control time can only be used for scoring if damage isn't occuring. For example, during the 4rd, Islam spent 3 minutes intentionally not doing anything. Not adding damage or submission attempts. Meanwhile Volk was landing strikes on his face (not sig. Strikes, but strikes). That means that those 3 minutes shouldn't have been used in consideration for scoring. Unfortunately, the judges didn't use the written scoring system to score that fight. And it shows when one of those judges went as far as scoring 49/46.

Volk landed 70 Significant Strikes to Islam's 57. Volk landed 37 head shots to Islam's 36. Volk landed 21 body shots to Islam's 18. Volk landed 12 leg kicks to Islam's 3. Volk landed 6 clinch strikes to Islam's 12. Volk landed 6 ground to Islam's 0. The only thing Islam did better was clinch strikes and ground control. I thought the fights are to be judged on damage now and not takedowns where nothing is gained? Yes these are the overall stats, but you can go and look at the rd by rd as well. That's too much to type out.

Volk landed a lot of negligible strikes to Islam's guard while Islam landed harder shots + one or two submission attempts. Check out the breakdown on The Weasle's channel. He does a good job of breaking down how damaging the shots were
Round 2 was close. I had it 1,2,4 for Islam and 3,5 for Volk. I did think that being in Perth and Volk being such an underdog, they were gonna give it to him. Incredible fight though.

l felt like Volk could have won rounds 1 and 2 if he was more aggressive it looked like he respected lslam too much, the crucial moment of the fight was round 4 where Islam just stalled and held for dear life to win round 4 and l knew he got the fight in the bag and l think so did Volk, you could see his frustration and how he just wanted to fuck lslam but lslam was just holding on to him to secure the round

This made the loss even more challenging, watching Izzy feel the pain for a friend. Even though I thought the scoring was correct, or Islam won the fight, it was an excellent example of the warrior mentality in Australia. That’s what running at 210lbs for 80 minutes continuously does for you. Builds up a different level of cardio especially with the hits he would of taken in rugby. I genuinely think if he used his attacking wrestling a little more he would control Islam a lot of the time because Islam hasn’t got the best cardio
