@@BAKEDPOTATOLARDYASS yes, I saw some behind the scenes stuff and he really prepared for his roles and used to think a lot about physical aspects to the character like posture, mannerisms, breathing, he really elevated his films through his acting. I like this film quite a bit, it's just really slow and natural looking unlike the more macarbe or bombastic stuff you get in Dr Terror's House of Horrors. He could do hero or villain and play it with great flair. Films like this show you don't need a big budget or lots of explosions and action to entertain, if something like this came out now the critics would be calling it nicely restrained and smartly directed.

I'd like to third that. I've just started watching the old "Hammer House of Horror" type movie's and I remember, even as a child, that it was always the talents of Peter Cushing that made the movie. A movie that wasn't always that great as far as special effects or continuity were concerned. But Peter Cushing always delivered an impeccable performance invariably dressed in an impeccable suit. My mother always spoke so highly of him too ~

You assessment made me chuckle but that film was SO useless that I'm not even sure the great PC even managed to raise it to life. Still, I enjoyed it for its awfulness and for a 'flavour' of Britain around the time I was born.

Island of Terror | Full HD Movies For Free | Flick Vault 2117pm 6.5.22 i have been told to go seek out a decent movie to watch.. allegedly watching films at the same time as others makes for veritable social interaction... hammer films should suffice for a friday night, i feel. but which one to watch? i allus feel i should have all these added to my dvd collection. hammer horror is a decent studio to collect for those dvd shelves... the blurb reads like a stupendously bad review. for a stupendously bad film... which means it's a cheese fest. and wil probably be enjoyed. i have no idea why peter cushing and chris lee were roped into starring in these films - did they have a stake in the studio? their thespian credentials woul suggest their talents aimed for higher things and more noble arts. they were learned gents, after all. anyhow; cometh the film cometh the fear... as you suggest our sensibilities are such that these kindda films are only gonna give 8-15 years olds a fright or the odd scare..... by my teens i was up for more gorish (sic) fare eg: evil dead.

It's great, its very slow, just like the slow moving monsters but they seem so indestructible that you get a great sense of inevitability and doom. The Unglamorous mundane setting of the backward island and the natural look and colours give it an authentic feel which contrasts nicely with the bokers plot and Dr Who like monsters.

Love this movie, sure the special effects leave a lot to be desired, but it just adds to the charm of the film, And not least of all it stars the legendary Peter Cushing, a true class act, there'll never be another like him or any of the other horror legends, all sadly missed.

It has been awhile since I have seen this film and it never gets old. Peter Cushing along with Boris Karloff, Peter Lorre, Christopher Lee and Vincent Price iis a favorite from the horror film genre. He and the others brought class, elegance and a bit of style to even the most low rated film making each that much more intriguing.

Ok this one of the great monster horror movies that came on CREATURE DOUBLE FEATURE after Saturday cartoons and before BLACK BELT THEATER . Yes the 70s and the 80s were the best for kids growing up, born in "68". This Peter Cushing movie was great. Because as a kid if you had something covering your eyes or hiding behind dad's chair that was a scary movie

I saw this at the drive in during it's early days, the last film of a four feature night. It was always the only horror/sci fi that kept me up at night! I was in heaven when it finally got shown on tv but disappointed when they cut out the amputation. Apart from Cushing and Judd, it has such a good cast - Niall Macginnis, Sam Lydd, Eddie Byrne, and of course Carole Gray's gorgeous eyes. It's good enough for me to own two blu rays.

He would not have been called Constable but Garda and his station house would have Garda on it and not Police. He was in what was known as a "one man station" as I was for over 14 years. I would watch Peter Cushing in any film, great actor.

Yet this is a good movie in its own right. Wasn't Carole Gray married to director Don Sharpe? Sharpe's "Curse of the Fly" in which she plays the female lead character is a great sci fi horror flick.
