This is one of those situations where nobody lost, Islam showed he's world class on the feet and beat the #1 p4p, Volk showed he can hang with the boogeyman in the wrestling department in a super close fight that made Islam look human, not to mention his star power sky rocketed, and the fans definitely won.

This fight kind of reminded me of Khamzat vs Burns. In both cases the underdog made the boogeyman look human, even if they lost. No doubt Islam needed this tough tough challenge and will level up, just as Khamzat did and will do. Loved this fight, Alex and Islam are both such inspiring fighters and the classiest gentlemen❤️

I changed my mind. We need a rematch for sure, as fans. But Islam Makhachev doesn't need it. It's a lose-lose situation for him. If he lose, he will lose his belt. If he wins he won't get P4P status. Some people were asking about Russian part of the speech here is translation. Islam usually you were making weight in Saturday morning and fighting Sunday night but this time UFC changed timing and you needed to fight on Sunday morning does it effected your recovery after weight-loss? Islam said of course it impacted because we body has recovery process and gets used to it and if you give less time to recovery it will not be recovered fully. Also in the morning I felt that my body wasn't fully recovered cuz I was looking skinnier than usually.

I feel like there's a number of reasons why Islam didn't stop Alex during the fight. The change in atmosphere, Khabib not being in his corner for the first time, The bad weight cut, and Alex's good chin played a factor aswell. Alex barely has a neck so he absorbs punches better than the average person.

Hey guys, back again translating the Russian part for you. The reporter said, that Khabib said that there were some mistakes in this fight and Islam needs to work on them. He then asked "What mistakes do you think you made tonight, Islam, and what should you have done differently." Islam said - You know, there were many small mistakes. Islam gained a win today, and rightly so, but make no mistake, they both came out winners. There were, in fact, 4 winners...... The sport of Mixed Martial Arts Islam Makhachev Alexander Volkanovski And.... The fans. These two warriors elite were the perfect showcase of the highest levels of combat and championship level behaviour during and after this Titanic battle of the ages. Thank you, gentlemen, for giving the world something worth remembering. I respect you both very, very much. I also thank The UFC for putting these fights out there for everyone (fighters, fans, writers & reporters). This is without a single shadow of doubt, the greatest combat sporting company on earth.

Volkanovski is probably p4p the strongest MMA fighter in history. Unreal strength. 3-2 was fair, hopefully the champ fights at 170 against Usman or Covington one day.

@@pieterlindeque7798 Volk walks around at around 180 pounds. 155 pounds is easier for him than 145. Moving up a division isn't easy for most featherweights, but it's not that big a deal for Volk.

Amazing fight! Volk really impressed me - you can never count him out. Islam was also great - he went into enemy territory and got the job done. Sometimes Champions have to really dig down and Islam did this using all facets of his game. Hopefully we'll get to see this one run back.

Islam had no gameplan and decided to go toe to toe with alex. Even his coaches were asking him to grapple but he chose to stand and trade. But he obeys khabib because he knows khabib will smesh him if not lol

When you are fighting in the highest stages of UFC, people finds unusual and caught you off guard on your face getting bruises or cut, you are really dominated the whole Division for sure. Thats an unintentional compliment from the Media..

The stand up was evenly matched and Islam had the edge in the grappling.. if y’all casuals and haters think that’s a robbery or a draw do yourself and the whole mma community a favour and quit watching the sport. Makhachev was tested to his absolute limits but he won that fight fair and square. With that being said I wouldn’t mind if they run it back!

Absolutely no way Islam matched Volk's striking. Islam looks incredible on the feet but Volk definitely sharper and cleaner on the feet. The p4p 1 and 2 by far, but Volk deserves to retain p4p1

Love seeing two fighters respect each others ability and not talk trash the entire time! Great fight for both camps, would love to see a rematch some day!

Volk is still P4P #1 imo. He took it to decision, and the only reason he lost is the UFC judging thinks hugging someone while getting your face battered means you’re in control

I agree Islam wasn’t active in his grappling that second round. He was just holding on 😂for life it seem. Refs should have stood them up. That happens Islam would clearly lose the second round like he lost the 3rd and 5th. I still think volk won 2,3 and 5 and should have been new. They have to address this ground control scoring when the opponent is not trying to actually do damage it shouldn’t weigh much

You have to give it to them, it’s frustrating as fuck to watch and feels like it’s not a good way to win but no one has been able to stop it. Not Conor. Not Dustin. Not Gaethje or Oliviera. But Volk did. Even though he lost, it took holding on for a round life to score the points to win. Volk came away looking like the better fighter even though he lost.

Islam’s terrible weight cut has hit him. But he still managed to win. Salute to Islam

Islam won 3 or 4 rounds very closely but 5th round was good for Volk.

Islam beat Charles and Volk within 4 months, give this man thr respect he deserves. I had it a draw to be honest but still, great fight. I dont think Islam should cut that much weight within 4 months two times tho.
