We need a rematch in a close future. The amount of personal growth they must've had after this fight is certainly amazing.

A 5’6 145er went 5 rounds with the 155 champion and gave him his toughest fight with a very close fight. Look the damage he did to Islam. Volk deserves more credit even with the loss but islam deserves credit too he’s really well rounded

That was one of the highest level fight in the UFC’s History

Pure class from both warriors. These two ( and there are others) are how you should be representing to have the younger community to look up to.

This fight made both of them patch up the only holes in their game, and then put it to the test against masters! What an amazing fight

Such a brilliant assessment in this interview by Islam. He gave credit to Volk and although the haters are going to be happy that Volk gave him some hard moments, I truly believe that him being able to come out of the adversity Volk put him through proved the case that he's a true champion. Also so happy for Volk this fight will definitely give him the credibility he deserves. Was so underrated before this. There has to be a rematch at some point of time later in future.

Throughout the fight whoever was getting hurt I was rooting for that guy. Going back and forth and my heart beat was off the charts starting from round 1. Great fight from both champions.

Great fight, both fighter have lot of respect for each other. They embraced each other when the fifth round started. Wonderful to see!!

I like how he said he is open to fighting Volk again if the UFC sets it up. These guys both up leveled and hope we get to see a rematch sometime once they clear out their respective divisions again

This was definitely a clash of the titans.... 2 best 💯 clashed with each other today... And showed the whole UFC why they both were undefeated by others .. What a show 😎 huge respect to both

This fight showed what an underrated striker Islam is as well as Volk on the ground. This was a really good fight and honestly big props to Islam for jumping right into fighting Volk, who was the p4p and have much more champ experience than him, as his first title defence. Not to mention the pressure must've been nuts cause that crowd was crazy hype. Hype to see a rematch between the 2 after they both become even better champions

Why didn't islam finish volk in first round?he had him with rear naked choke.Just like khabib beat connor with rear naked choke.And volk was showing thumbs up to crowd while under pressure from a dangerous grappler.Because dana white told islam not to finish volk in 1st round.its crystal clear.

I love Makhachev and I'm happy he won the match but it was a very close fight though. Volks got my respect and I'd love Volks to get his rematch. Congratulations to both fighters but Volks proved himself to be a tough tough tough dude againts the big dudes. He was pound for pound for a reason.

@@AR-15-685 I'd agree with him Islam won the title fair n square. But Volk still the p4p 1# in my eyes. It was a close af fight. If there was another round I think we would have seen a finish from Volk. Islam being the larger opponent should have dominated him a bit more if he was the true p4p. It don't really matter though they're both top tier fighters and both deserve respect for being the best.

I’d love to see a rematch too but this time islam with better shape he could do way better dude looked drained off & exhausted af clearly his cut weight or something goes wrong but dude is beast for pulling out a win regardless

Great great fight that was epic congratulations to both men 👏💪 There both class acts and great champs Islam will definitely get even better after this fight he should think about moving to 170 I think the cut to 155 is becoming much he would be much stronger and have better cardio if he goes up .. he has that now but moving up like Volk tonight he'd be even stronger 💪💯

Very humble and good character receiving sharp questions, this fight has the highest level of integrity it's good for us to learn this, ufc is evolving with good sportsmanship this two human showed us. Other fightrrs should learn from this , Connor McGregor, Diaz brothers all of them . This is life is all about.

This is a great fight for a grappler and master on the ground. An amazing fight for striker master on the feet. Respect for both. Class and gentlemen.

They both win in my opinion. They both did very well and definitely they'll be a tough opponent to beat in their weight class

What my suprised is, wrestling/grappling skills of alex and stand up skills of islam. They both are amazing and of the best.

Was an incredible fight I was there, had Islam just but could easily have gone either way. No robbery, just an incredible fight between two blokes that respect each other. The main card was incredible, JDM and Tafa great finishes. Rodriguez also!

For me this proved that the P4P ranking is not ridiculous as some people and some fighters might say. Volk truly deserved that #1 P4P spot. And now we have a new P4P King, Islam Makhachev.

If Islam is p4p #1 after this fight, it IS ridiculous. He barely scraped a victory against someone moving into HIS weight class. Volk on the other hand proved that he is p4p #1. Not only the best featherweight, but one of the best lightweights too.
