The reason this kit is well-engineered is because it's a copy (high grade as well) of the original TTE supercharger kit that was sold (and mounted) by European Lexus dealers before the IS300 was released in 2002. Designed and built originally by the same people who made the Toyota World Rally cars. They also made a Supercharged Corolla. FYI.

  • @plamennicolov

Actually the only part that's the same between the TTE kit (actually designed by Bemani in Switzerland) and this one is the supercharger. Which is a Mercedes-Benz unit made by Eaton in the US. The rest of the kit was developed independently without a single measurement taken from the TTE/Bemani kit. And the aim was to make it fit better (for example the pipework on this kit doesn't require cutting several fan supports and the engine undertray like the TTE/Bemani one does), to be compatible with aftermarket manifolds which don't have the heat shield extensions (something impossible on the TTE kit without heavy modifications), to be capable of more power (by using all 6 ribs on the supercharger pulley compared to only the front 5 used on the TTE kits), having reasonable servicable parts (the bypass cable can be replaced by a bike cable for 2 quid, not a custom Bemani one for 200) and so on. Basically all parts of this kit were developed over the years with serious support from the Facebook DIY community. So it was more or less a group effort and wouldn't be possible without the large IS200 community. After TTE was dissolved as an entity and Bemani stopped supporting these cars, the community had to act. And this is the result of that group effort ;)

@@BennysCustomWorks was more of a general btw type comment. I did mine once a year. It will also give you an indication of compressor condition, if the oil is discoloured then it's a sign the front bearings are on the way out and the rotors will chew the rear of the case. I added an external sight glass tube for monitoring, probably excessive but I have a machine shop so easily done.

But it's all relative, depending on engine condition, dyno type and settings, etc. The torque curve is the best change though - the engine feels happy from 2k up, not from 4.5k as stock.

On this setup this doesn't really work, because the vacuum actuation requires actual vacuum buildup in the manifold, which isn't linearly related to the throttle position. So when you lift off, there's a delay until the bypass opens, which is enough to load up the charger A LOT, causing extreme wear on the belts and even worse - very often triggering limp mode of the ECU. This is because there's a very fine line to keep the vacuum bypass open and when trying to drive at part throttle you're usually beyond that line, so the bypass snaps closed while the throttle is only partly open, pressure builds up and squeezes more air in the intake, causing the ECU to detect less vacuum than it expects at only partly open throttle, triggering a serious limp mode (probably to avoid hitting the limiter in case of a large vacuum leak, broken manifold etc.). So while a vacuum bypass is perfect for supercharged applications where the supercharger is after the throttle body, in this case where it's before it a vacuum one doesn't work at all. Been there, done that ;) This is why the complex cable system was developed...

@@boosted_l6787 the bypass valve on this specific kit is a modified Mini Cooper S one, which is a vacuum actuated one. So it's a straight swap to the standard Mini vacuum bypass. The reason it's not used in the kit is that a vacuum bypass makes the car extremely dangerous to drive, since vacuum bypass valves are designed to be used in a different way. Before the cable conversion existed, practically everyone doing DIY setups on the IS200 used vacuum bypass valves. With lots of trouble. People had to adapt their driving style to a very non-intuitive behaviour, borderline deadly on a slippery surface. Lots of supercharged setups were abandoned because of this. The day the cable conversion hit the market the first batch was sold out in less than 24h. Things surely aren't like this on other cars and supercharger setups, but specificly on the 1G-FE vacuum bypasses don't really work well. It would be much easier if they did... It's either the cable actuated mechanical system or possibly a complex electronicly controlled one.

I'd like to see the same conversion done on an IS300 for comparison. I seriously don't think there would be much difference between the stock IS200 and the stock IS300. While the IS300 has a weak 2JZ, it is also auto to suck what little power it has. I'd take out my stock IS300 to the drags, but I'd be too embarrassed to run it.

Dodgy Brothers Engineering I watched a 5 speed IS300 on track do really well. Then I watched an IS200 with the BEAMS engine and it was slower than the IS300 around the track. I have a 5 speed IS300. It’s just the flat power and that makes it feel slow, but it’s not horrible. It’s a lot better than an IS200 doing 17’s at the drag strip.

@@nathanielbarbeau4821 it's probably relative, my bike runs mid 10's at 140mph and I swear there are times it feels like I could get off and run faster than it (wouldn't recommend trying it). To run 16's again would be like watching paint dry. I need about another 20mph to feel like I am going fast enough.
