Is Your Thumb Green or Black? (Debunking the "green thumb" myth)

Ойын-сауық

Let's talk "thumbs", and let's put that concern out of your way to starting a garden of your own.
So many are labeling themselves as "black thumb gardeners", without realizing that "black thumb" is not a curse, but lack of experience, knowledge, and consistent effort of paying attention to the plant's needs. Find out what can motivate you to change your (imaginary) thumb "color", and turn it into a "green thumb".

This is how I feel about myself. That I'm not good at keeping plants alive. It's encouraging to know it's a skill you developer and seems to be more about your love of plants rather than your luck with them. Thank you for this uplifting video.

I feel like you heard my message 100%, and I encourage you to keep trying, experimenting, observing and learning. (One day I want to make a video on the power of observation). Thank you for watching!

Authentic Gardening I loved hearing that you buy new plants when the old ones die and you learn from those experiences and that how you have such healthy plants. It helps me to not feel so much shame about the plants I accidently kill. Not to give up thinking I can’t be good with plants.

I think your last sentence above should read "Not to give up thinking I CAN be good with plants."

Very informative! I always wanted to grow veggies, but I was afraid of that "black" thumb. This gives me hope. Thanks for this video.

Plants are very forgiving. For every one that fail to grow, you can start 2 new ones. Eventually your garden will flourish, but not without a sacrifice of a few starter plants.

My tomato plant never really recovered and the green pepper plant I had with the spider mites didn’t make it. Now my tiny squash are withering and one of the slightly bigger ones was mushy. I should probably give up trying to grow stuff bc everything keeps dying. Idk what I’m doing wrong or what things I’m not doing that I should be doing. Ugh.

Sorry you did not get to see your plants thrive. The key to a thriving garden is always a good soil and balanced plant food. Start researching that, and start with the soil. The bagged soil sold in nursery sections usually has high amounts of wood chips. Wood needs time to decompose, and while decomposing - it binds nitrogen, making it inaccesible to plants. Mushy squash might be an indication of fungus in the soil. Mites take over plants that suffer. A good treatment against mites and other bugs (I discovered lately) is... natural dog shampoo called Tropiclean - chewy.com sells a gallon for $40. Mix with water, between 1 and 5 oz to gallon of water (depends how bad is the infestation) and sparay. So - keep the soil going, add good stuff to it, compost, etc. Build it up. Keep testing it by growing something easy, like zucchini, or herbs in cooler season. Make a compost pile on top of your garden bed. Bring worms. It takes time...
