great explanation. Do all pitaya varieties whether pollinated or self-fertile produce fruit or are there some varieties that only produce flowers?

Thanks, we've been testing and coming closer n closer. Actually got it right with 1 but the monkeys got to it before I could pick it. So excited I've got about 20 coming out in the next night or 2 at the most. Will definately cross pollinate.

Thanks, you want to grow 2+ varieties to use the pollen from another variety to cross pollenate. You will get bigger fruits in my experience.

Hi may i know what self fertile dragon fruits can use to polinate tricia dragon fruit

I normally put a rubber band around the end of the flower to close it up

Yes, I had to cross pollenate all of my flowers this season to set fruit. I tried one with it's own pollen and it failed.

It looks like you are brushing the pollen on the stigma of the pistil. Would it help to use some kind of compressed air similar to a computer keyboard air cleaner to blow the pollen down the style closer to the ovary?

Hi, self-sterile, meaning I will need another pollinator from another type of dragon fruits flower to help with pollination? So, what if there’s no other flowers blooming at that exact moment? Please help me understand as I’m new to this. Thank you

Yes, You can refrigerate the pollen from another variety's flower.

I have the same issue with flowers turning yellow after I hand pollinate. Is it for the reason that it needs cross pollination?

Yes, most likely. Sugar Dragon and American Beauty tend to be one of the first varieties to bloom and are self fertile.

I'm curious if you cut off all the pollen so the bees can't get to it why do you need to bag it up?

That is the goal, but anywhere near it will do.

How long does fresh pollen last not in the refrigerator? Or how long does pollen last in the refrigerator but not frozen?

I leave it on the counter for 8 hours to dry and put it in little air tight plastic containers. It stores in the fridge for 2 weeks.

Yes, it's good, but my favorite of Paul Thomson's seedlings are Purple Haze and Darkstar.

So mine turn yellow and fall off… so is this the reason why my fruits don’t set ? Please help.. very discouraging at this point

Usually whatever else is flowring that night. I like Paul Thomson's hybrid pollen, American Beauty or similar, and Sugar Dragon or similar.

If you know the name of your dragon fruit, you can google or ask dragon fruit forums for self fertility or not.
