Bro i think my acl is torn becuz i was a defender and i was defending a lw and i bent over and as soon as he turned and ran i turned and ran and i felt something in my knee twist or like come out of place
Very good info, Thanks a lot.
Hi Lydia, That's great it's healing my ACL is fully torn but I can walk. I really don't want to do the surgery. I'll take on the advice of healthy eating thank you.
Best video I've seen on the topic. Pictures help. My question for you is the difference between an ACL tear and a thigh strain. I was injured 3 1/2 weeks ago. Felt the pop. Walking, stairs, sitting was painful. Swelling on knee and upper thigh. Still have a little bruising behind my knee and also on my ankle (no pain there). Now I can walk really well, can bike a couple of miles, but as you said, I'm worried about lateral movements vs straight. Thank you for the great video!
Amazing teaching video.
Great video thank you !
Thank you that helped alot bc I was in football practice and everything you just described is how it felt I felt a pop and I limped off the field and it's very swollen like alot and it hurts so bad but if I'm laying still I don't hurt and I'll even forgot about it when I go to move it
ty for the knowledege Dr..jazakallah
Great information 🙏
Hey doc. I fell down from a 7 feet high wall. Then I might feel or hear some cracking sound. But my X-ray was normal indicating swelling in my knee. I also cant run fast or too much pressurize on my knee. It happened 4 months ago
Thanks, this was very helpful!
Loved your video. I tore my ACL but there wasn’t a “Pop!” Also, my knee bent almost 90* Laterally. I have no pain and even when this happened, I experienced no pain. I also have bone brushing and Meniscus tearing. I injured the knee playing tennis over a month ago. I will be getting an operation.

Any update? Basically the same thing happened to me.
Do you do the BEAR procedure or the bridge ligament procedure? Thanks
My knee issue is behind and right front side (left) I cannot normally get up without it hurting SEVERELY!!! I know because I felt something clicking when I do subtle movements, So I tested myself back against a wall down to a couched position, now when I get up that I put most of the strain on my left knee it hurts severely, it's possibly the Collateral Ligament, it also hurts on the front right side where the ACL is, I cannot stand for more than 30 minutes without it starting to hurt, I can bike no issue, but if I walk after about 1hr it starts to tingle hurt, or I'm sitting down and how I put my foot on the wheel leg where it's just behind, and then I move there is clicking felling on that right side where the ACL is.
I injured my knee at home 9 days ago. Going to see an orthopedic tomorrow. I didn;t not hear a audible snap, but, I falling off the side of a sidewalk, at the same time the injury occured. I was limping & had swelling and could not put weight on my knees i do hear crackling sounds & extreme pain. Sleeping at night was impossible on my back, had to sleep on my side. Something definitely happened. Anxious to find out the answers tomorrow.
I was playing ping pong on a laminated floor while waiting socks in a basement. My right leg slipped to the side and the left leg wasn’t able to follow it. As a result I got my left knee bent on the side and it popped horrible. Is there an intuitive way to differentiate if I got a meniscus tear or an acl tear? ER didnt want to do an MRI but an X-ray which was certainly not showing this.
Thanks you ❤️👍
I didn’t hear the pop over the car flinging me through the air

I fear I have torn my acl again. Should I go with same surgeon to do a revision surgery or seek someone else?
I just seen my Dr for my knee today. And she felt around an said I may have torn my ACL and my L6? And wants me to do PT. My knee hurts so bad. It's been about 2wks now.
Aren't these the same symptoms for a MCL as well? My pain is inside knee.

Great video! I wish I had seen this a year ago. It would have saved me a lot of pain and suffering. And frustration with Kaiser Permanente orthopedic surgeons. 😂
How can we diagnose complete and partial torn ACL looking at the MRI
@joelhurtmd-austinorthopedi4131

That's a little technical. Short version is you can still see some fibers in continuity between the tibia and femur. As I explained however, if there is a pivot shift bruise pattern in the bone the critical functional part of your ACL is torn.
My mri report says mild synovial effusion,,it has been two years,,whenever I start workout it starts burning in my knee with minor swelling.g

Oh my! He said it just the way it happened to me, the sports activity, the pop sound, the limping . All of it was right to the T. Now my problem is I can't do any physical activity without me thinking my knee would give out. It's a really painful situation

I partially tore my acl a couple years ago, i did not get surgery, my doctor said there is still some of it there and that i would be able to play football, but i must strenghten my quads and leg muscles alot. So don't be scared its all in your head, don't be afraid to put pressure so your muscles don't fall of
Ding ding ding!!! Thats what I think I have. Snow ball fights are all fun and games until I tore my ACL.
Hi Dr. I have extreme pain right behind my kneecap. If I am sitting down and I straighten my knee it's excruciating. I am a soccer player and this pain started last week while playing but I did not hear a pop plus no swelling. I played again two days ago and the pain is twice as bad now. Any idea, please? Thanks

I'm an mma fighter. Injury my knee 2 weeks ago. Was in this move called "electric chair" and my knee popped and ripped. It swelled up the next day. Could really walk or bend my knee. I kept working on it limping. I can now jog and shadow box alittle. But I can't even do an airsquat without tons of pain. I have an orthopedic appointment in a couple weeks. Should I still go ? Or am I fine?

The loud pop was terrifying i remember it so clearly i thought I broke my leg or something but nope I thought it was fine i walked to my home and went to bed when i woke up in the morning my knee was hurting so bad and the color was red due to inside bleeding all night,as a futboll player the worst thing that could happen just happened and the dream to be a professional futboll player died right there
i for sure torn my acl today
I been dealing with knee problems for 5 years and just recently came across a video that shows how my knee is when I walk. It shifts back and forth

Acl controls twisting, it won’t affect you walking but the second you have all your weight on that leg whilst not facing straight you end up on the floor!! Not a case of my knee moves when I walk that’s a separate issue, one wrong move with this tear and you’re on the floor in agony like you know somethings wrong

Would it more common to tear your ACL doing squats or could that be a meniscus tear?
@joelhurtmd-austinorthopedi4131

For sure meniscus tear for that.
I’m currently laying in pain as I’ve heard the popping sound! Right now I’m unable to straight my leg whatsoever! Is this normal for a torn ACL or is this something different? This happens frequently but this is the first time I’ve been unable to straight my leg and it’s been in severe pain for like 4 hours
@joelhurt4853

Could be just severe swelling. But could also be a locked bucket handle meniscus.

Can a dislocated knee cause your acl be torn?
@joelhurtmd-austinorthopedi4131
Жыл бұрын
Depends on what you mean by a "dislocated" knee. A true dislocation of the knee (tibio-femoral joint) requires at least 3 ligaments to be torn...usually ACL, PCL, and MCL. It's a horrible injury with a long recovery. When most patients say dislocated knee they mean their kneecap (patella) dislocated. In that case, "No", your ACL would not be torn but your MPFL would be. Only 1/3 of patella dislocations go on to recurrent dislocations. Hope that helps.

I was walking and was hit by a pick up truck January 11 of last year, and had open fractures in my leg which required 2 rods and 13 pins... and my acl in my left knee was reconstructed.. the surgeon used a cadaver graft... so I tried that lachmon test and my left knee still is unstable... will that ever be ok again????
Damn Doctor, youse name is Nasty
Pretty sure mine is torn :(
how about people over 70 that still have to work and doctors tell them they don't do ACL repairs on older people.
Can acl heal on it's on.
@joelhurtmd-austinorthopedi4131
Жыл бұрын
Small partial ACL tears can but can a full-thickness ACL tear heal?...simple answer is "no". PCL's can but don't see that same type of healing with ACl's. We are trying to figure out ways to facilitate ACL repair with biologics and there are new techniques being used to try to do that but it's not widely done.
