Got my MRI results back yesterday from a work injury. Complete ACL rupture and partial tear of the lateral meniscus. I’m eager to get back to work and wondering if a professional like yourself has ever heard of someone, with this injury and subsequent reconstruction, walking within a few weeks and returning to work/sport in 4-6 months? Thank you for your time and passion in what you do.

I remember when I had a nasty bike crash. Tore most of my meniscus (surgeon said it was hanging in by a thread) and tore straight through my ACL. Pain wasn’t that bad to me and after getting an x ray at the hospital they said I was fine. (I didn’t know I hurt anything at the time) I couldn’t bear weight on my affected leg for a whole week without it completely buckling. After I was able to walk again I went about my life for 6 months before going to a physio because I found I still couldn’t run without my leg buckling. Physio did a single test on my knee joint and got one of his colleagues to come in and get a second opinion and told me I needed to get surgery. Physio said it’s the worst knee he’s seen for a person my age. Got surgery later that month and had to be on crutches for a month and a half and wasn’t allowed to run for another 6 months. Recovery sucked more than the injury itself

Well… You probably made it much worse by continuing to go without any Orthopedic opinion for half a year with a buckling knee. An x-ray can only show bones, so they would’ve had no clue past your personal account if anything was wrong with any of your tissue or ligaments.

I tore my acl when I was 11 during a basketball tournament. I couldn’t walk after it happened and my dad had to carry me out of the gym and to the car. I remember later that night while I was in the hotel room, one of my coaches who is a doctor did these same tests to me. When he did the thing where he bent it to the side it was excruciating. He said that he couldn’t tell if my acl was torn because i wasn’t letting him do it properly cuz of the pain. My coaches and my dad didn’t really believe that anything was wrong with me and wanted me to keep playing for the next two games. I refused to play, and eventually my dad took me to the hospital

Hello Sir I met with an accident 1.5 yr back ACL torn to third grade and grade 2 signal tear of lateral meniscus but then Covid scenario happened so surgery got delayed. So i started exercising at home and now i can walk completely but not run, jump or do normal activities which needs pressure on the knee. I know a surgery is required but i got a fear about this. I got few questions Can the condition like pre injury the normal one be achieved after the surgery? Can it be as normal as it was? Are there any chances of breaking ACL again? How much time does it takes to heal completely and go back to the normal condition? And can the bio degradable screws be used? So that there's no need of having another Operation to remove those screws. Kindly answer these. That would be a great help.

Hi Paul, I have been having knee problems for quite a while. The thing is I don’t remember a specific time it started. The pain comes and goes and it has been getting worse. The pain is on the back of my leg. No significant swelling, but it is extremely painful to pull my heel in. There is no pain on extension, only when bending my leg/knee towards my body. So much so I have to use my arm to pull my knee in to bend it. Have you ever come across something like this? Hoping for an answer, thanks in advance!

So I endured a terrible knee injury about 2 years ago, where I couldn't walk, my knee was unstable, and when I hurt it I felt a pop and I had significant swelling. I couldn't fully flex my knee for about a week and I never went to the doctor for it. So since then I've been walking it off, but recently I felt a bone something under my knee move and lock and O popped it back and know my knee hurts really bad. So I don't know if it's too late to get it checked out or not.

Hi.. I injured my left knee a month back.. MCL and ACL both were injured (partial tear).. After a week doctor recommended me to go for MRI again So this came. Intrasubstance hyperintensity within ACL s/o partial intrasubstance tear. Trabecular fractures and marrow edema seen involving lateral femoral condyle. Mild joint effusion with particular soft tissue oedema. My doctor said it will be ok with rest with 21 days and adviced for a exercise.. But it's been a month.. It's not paining but slight swelling is there and I am not able to completely straighten my left leg due to swelling.. As if that swelling locks the leg from straightening it.. And if try to straight it completely it pains and feels like something will break... 25% I am not able to straighten .

Its been an exact year since i heard the snap. Took pain killers for 3 days, kept my knee on icepacks for 3 days. Started walking on the 4 th day. Swelling gone completely on the 8th day. Started exercises in the second week. Started brisk walking in 1 month and 12 days ( with support offcourse) . I can jog now. It wasn't a complete acl tear , but a " near complete ACL tear" . Had PRP therapy every 2 months since injury ( had no time to get the operation, opted for this method). Had to give up Football (soccer). Now i have the time for the surgery , scheduled in a month. I have been pain free but knee was unstable for sure for all this time. My advice : Sooner or later YOU HAVE TO GET IT OPERATED . IT WILL LEAD TO MANY OTHER CARTILAGE PROBLEMS ONCE YOU ARE CROSSING YOUR 40s. The best thing about ACL tear is you can delay the surgery and select a good time frame. Age: 26. Total or complete recovery time 2 years. Jogging with pace : 8-9months.

Sorry to hear about your injury Katelynn. People who have ACL tears and reconstructions go back to playing soccer all the time just like the girl in this video and many other soccer players I have treated with ACL tears. Your age is a factor. Your orthopedic surgeon will decide on if the tear is bad enough to repair and if you are old enough to fix it. In the meantime, you need to keep the rest of your body strong. Best of luck!

Hello Paul, yesterday i was playing soccer at a park. I was running diagonally and jumped when I landed I heard my left knee pop and I think it buckled inward. There was instant pain, I could still bend it fine though and iced it as soon as I heard the pop. Now 1 day later, I can walk and there is now slight swelling. I can put my whole body weight on it without any pain, but there is pain as soon as i bend it side to side like shown in the video. But if i walk straight perfectly I can walk fine, as soon as a bit of rotation movement is added I feel pain. Should i wait a couple of days and see if the pain reduces and just let it heal or get it checked with a professional? I have torn my meniscus and completed surgery on my other knee which was a different experience. Much more painful and I couldn't bend it at all the following days after that, so it seems this recent knee injury isn't as bad but just want to make sure.

Orthopaedic Surgeon Couldn't perform any Tests on my knee due to the pain. Unable to weight bear. Literally cannot walk. Foot has swollen up since the leg is being treated as a dead leg. Bruising has come out black and yellow behind the knee and my calf and shins yellow bruising. I'm wandering if everyone is just different? My injury was a valgus stress from a slide tackle. Am I kidding myself if I feel it will go away on its own? Medical tests taking so long that not knowing how to deal with it at home is killing me

Sounds like you have a Complete ACL Tear. Same like mine which I had an ACL Reconstruction almost 2 months now.. Btw, my injury was 10 yrs ago when I played basketball, landed on my left leg and I heard loud pop and knee got dislocated.. got fixed it this year only.. same like yours, it looks normal in X-Ray but when I had an MRI, it was a complete ACL tear.. I’m progressing very good, my knee became more stable now but still weak because still fresh from surgery but my doctor says I can play basketball again in 1 year.. It seems very long time but I have no complain since my Injury was 10 years old, what is 1 year right? Lol. Anyway, go to the doctor and have your knee MRI and get it fixed as soon as possible.. don’t ignore it, it will worsen by time. That clicks while walking will cause pain and discomfort and will add more damage in your knee if not treated. Good Luck and God Bless..

Very few people can get away with not having surgery. Here are a few examples of when some people should not have it "fixed".-ACL tear with mod to severe arthritis-Person has very good secondary restraints(tight capsule, large meniscal support, good quad hamstring strength)-Person is inactive and the knee doesn't give out with every day activities. They do not heal on their own if completely torn.

Now I am not having any swelling and my range of motion is full and no problem while walking , I just feel some soreness left. So is it something to worry or it's normal? Saw Ortho last week and he suggests surgery. Start PT next week and need to order MRI. I am still working and sometimes my knee wants to give out on me. Is instability a good indicator of complete ACL tear? You should not have been walking on it if it’s giving out, at that point you could’ve caused bone bruising, or further tears in the meniscus, mcl, or pcl. At the very least you should get a stability brace, and only do light activity on it for a couple of weeks. Take this time to reduce swelling and inflammation by icing, light stretching and 600mg of ibuprofen three times daily. Surgery is also beneficial for long term use, as a fully torn ACL will never heal, therefore making it impossible for you to ever safely do those pivoting, twisting, or extending movements ever again.

It was painful at first, then I was able to walk with no problem( I had difficulty in running though). Then after 2-3 hours, the knee started swelling. I couldn't bend the knee for the next 2 days. I had fluid in my knee too. Finally, I went to Doctor and had an MRI. The doctor said knee contusion. He gave some medicine and asked me to take rest for 1 month. This was in March. I'm still having problems, even though I can run and all. Should I go and see doctor again or stick to rehab exercises?

Most people have PT even if they have all the above torn. Common to do rehab. Good luck. Let me know who was correct.
