Is women's football entering a new era?

Спорт

Kieran is joined by Rachael Boyle (Hibs and Scotland). They discuss:
- How do we grow the women's game in Scotland?
- How is the current Scotland squad shaping up?
- Can women's football ever become as popular as men's football?

I think Celtic have done a fine job allowing the women's team to grow organically rather than throw money at them and it's shown recently.

They have thrown money at the womens team. Who do you think pays for the kits, stadium rentals, players wages, staff wages and so on. Tickets for womens games are a lot cheaper than mens games and often given away for free. So, cheaper tickets WITH SMALLER crowds, means LESS revenue. Mens clubs subsidise the womens division of their club. Their is no 'organic' growth when the team is from an already established brand. Glasgow City however are proof that independent CLUB is the way forward.

Womens football needs to seperate itself from mens clubs. Independent clubs like Glasgow City are the way to go. As long as there are womens TEAMS at mens CLUBS, the issues will always be there because the comparisons have to made for multiple reasons. Financially being a big one and one that Glasgow City FC do not have to think about because they are solely a Womens CLUB. As for the end rant. There will always be sexism from BOTH sides. Hurty words don't mean anything. Us men do need to do better though and stop treating women like children is the first thing to do. Remove womens teams from mens clubs and have them setup independent womens clubs. It will be the best thing for everyone. Glasgow City FC deserve huge praise for what they have done. They have done the real hard yards in womens football, time for the rest to follow.

Why should they separate themselves? They'll have a built in support and brand recognition. Until there's more professional/semi-professional teams this is the way to go IMO.

@@plixypl0x The womens football clubs like Glasgow City is the way to go. The rest are just divisions of Mens clubs. Riding on the coattails of mens teams is not growth, it is benefitting from a brand and product already in place. Independent womens clubs is the only way to do it.

Well they can't separate now. Too deep into their existence. Are you suggesting that new teams form?

Here's an article (Daily Record so a gallon of salt) about Fran Alonso and budgetary constraints. Celtic could do more about this but they've gone with sales and loans for the most part.

@@plixypl0x Not TEAMS mate, but CLUBS. If you look elsewhere the Independent clubs do not get a look in at the top table and that is wrong. Womens football as we now it right now is purely, a side division of mens football. This helps neither the women nor men. It has all been done with good intentions but it was an easy and option move to do. If women realy want their own football and to be respected, then stand up and do it themselves like Glasgow City have. Glasgow City could have the first ever independent womens football stadium when they get the funding for it. That is a proper womens CLUB, not a TEAM, handed to them by men.
