It is almost hard to believe that Warcry is a GW game?! It's simplicity is it's genius. The convoluted dice throwing in Kill Team drove me nuts.

Agree. Complexity isn't a virtue on its own. I think a good example is chess. The rules of chess are not complex, the game 100% is. We wanted to get into KT 2022 and we tried for almost 6 months with multiple teams. The sweatiness of the rules (cover mechanics holy crap) made it relatively unplayable for us. Warcry is the opposite, we picked it up and haven't put it down all year.

Great video with a great list of other content creators at the end. So many of these are what helped me understand Warcry so much better with great content. Also I agree, while most of the Warhammer community has a whole is great, there are a few very bad eggs that are quite loud, but I've seen nothing but great people that want to help eachother in the Warcry community and it's awesome.

Warcry vs Bighammer gives me the feel of Alpha Strike vs Classic Battletech. "Streamlined" but quick, easy dice rolls, units die much quicker, and it feels so good. I like Warcry for the lack of saves and for me to be able to get into Sigmar without needing an army (I'm more of a 40k guy, but I've always loved Lizardmen) As for the best game, I dunno, I really like Kill Team and Warcry, I think together they're the premier products who deserve a long life. It's much easier to get into them than the bighammer.

Agree with all of your points. My 3 favourite things are: 1. Flexibility of list building allows a huge amount of freedom and creativity. I love how you can pull allies and thralls into your list with so much to choose from 2. GW have stuck to the same excellent core rule set for 4 years so far. They made adjustments and improvements with the 2nd edition but kept the core mechanic so you didn’t have to forget everything you already knew and start again 3. Rules are available for free so we can spend our money on the minis, terrain and hobby supplies

On the topic of big projects game devs are the kings. Throughout he course of my education at a university devoted to game development they have taught me to break down projects. For instance, we had to build a single 2d 5 min level that developed rather simple mechanics. We were told to start with the idea of the end, build a proxy (aka a simple quick version), then pull out the key parts you are trying to teach the player. I Have done this with my dream Game, it will be a 2D open world with Metroid Vania dungeons, physics mechanics, puzzles and combat. So I have broken down the game into 3 separate games before shove all the different things together into one. A movement Physics game, A crunchy 2D combat game, And physics puzzle game. With making all these games prior I will learn how to make compelling maps and what about each system works or needs further development. So if any of you have large projects think of smaller ones that relate to over all goal and make those first. This line of thought can be applied to anything even doing the laundry.

The biggest negative about Warcry is how hard GW makes it to get into Warcry. I thought about getting into Warcry at around the time Sundered Fate, the first expansion to Heart of Ghur came out. I missed out on the Heart of Ghur box and all the following boxes didn’t come with everything you’d need to start. Now they released the Crypt of Blood starter set but with that price tag it’s just another slap in the face. GW, just give me a good value box and I'd probably have a shelve full of Warbands by now.

And for the solo players out there whilst there are no "official" solo mode (I believe there are fan solos and occasional one off solo scenarios from GW) the game is easy enough that you can play both sides with little overhead. I will also say that in comparison to something like Kings of War Vanguard, Warcry is actually supported, you actually get updates (and to be clear this is not me putting down Kings of War Vanguard ((I think it is a good game system)) but Vanguard has yet to receive any new content in quite sometime).

Played a couple games of it for the first time a week ago and found it rather dull. You roll some dice to hopefully cast some generally inconsequential spell, walk up and hit my guy for 5 of his 25hp then it's my turn to do the same with one of my guys. Sit on a point or pick up a treasure and run away for 3-4 turns, game is over. It's great they are making a more casual game to get new people into the hobby though.

I burned out of 10th so quickly. It’s an improvement over 9th but man, I just can’t get into 40K like I used to back in the day. Probably an age thing. I just don’t have time to dedicate to it anymore. I enjoy Kill Team, but I genuinely think Warcry is the better game - I’d settle for a tie though since they both slap. OPR is something I have to dabble into still for sure !

Warcry is good. And if one is looking for a simple, elegant ruleset, then it probably is GW’s best minis game. But if you want a deep ruleset with nuances in tactical decision making, then I would look elsewhere. Underworlds and Kill Team ‘21 are GW’s best games in this regard (in that order). They also happen to be better balanced games too.

Warcry’s competitive scene is starting to take shape, and it’s awesome just how well the game scales up to that level of play. A bit more support from GW in terms of FAQs, Errata’s, and points changes and the game is golden.
