I appreciate all the content you guys make, it's a shame that you have so many detractors here in the comments. I appreciate the insane amount of work and effort you guys put in to produce what is really an ungodly amount of content from such a small crew. I suppose it speaks to how well you guys present that people here think or presume that it must be an easy job, and levy heavy criticism with zero thanks or appreciation, and furthermore have the gall to call you guys privileged or elitist.

As much as they don't want to hear it, they are the equivalent of politicians. They are in the public eye and give statements or opinions. Therefore, you will have positive and negative responses. I have always been a fan of Toyota, yes they've had recalls same as everyone else. It was an unforeseen fault that happened. They can plan and prepare for years, but the real world will always show weak spots. It will get fixed and my next truck will be a tundra. You guys are great and deserve much respect. The real disheartening problem with the Tundra debacle is that when the failure does happen they are not replacing with a factory built engine. Relying on a mechanics ability to build the motor in a 70k brand new truck unacceptable to most people.

@@lonerider5315 i do know the difference the short block is the just that the short block. The bottom end of the engine. No heads no valve assembly. The long block is the entire engine top end and bottom end already together and ready to be installed in the truck. Not as many parts laying everywhere. Now you have been educated and your welcome. You know people like you and your smart a- -s attitude that only exist in life to make other peoples blood pressure go up is the reason most people like me don’t bother expressing there concerns about there issues like the truck they spent a lot of money on may get taken apart and half way repaired.this is a serious issue to me and others alike that don’t need or want your attention if your just gonna say nonsense like that.

Actually Toyota said the design and software allowed the engine torque to exceed the strength of the transfer case. Which to me is the worst answer. Toyota did not design the drive train to handle the engine torque using 4wd software that they created?

@@Nikephorus It would be hard to blame TFL given all the cameras that captured everything they did. It is difficult to assess the steepness of that trail but it looked like a bunny slope compared to some trails I have been on. Yea, the terrain setting excuse is just that, an excuse. The wrong terrain setting should make it difficult to get up the slope but never result in damage. I recall the TFL video with that same engineer saying that the Tacoma drive train components were heavy duty truck spec. and if that is true, it does not inspire confidence in the rest of the drivetrain. I am just spit-balling here but in the past when engineering was not so precise, maybe engineers would way over build drivetrains when heavy duty was needed. But now with very precise engineering and computer simulations, it seems like they can make drivetrains just strong enough but not capable of handling anything more than expected or unusual situations.

They just took parts they had in warehouse and installed in brand new truck. Same thing they did when they put axles with drumm brakes on modern truck and said its best thing since sliced bread...

There is no reason to choose Toyota over anything right now. Price and complexity have gone up while reliability and vehicle lifespan has gone way down. Disappointing engine in the Tundra Disappointing drivetrain in the Taco Both are truly sad to see.

In the body on frame segment yes. Their body on frame models line Corolla, Camry, Rav4 and Highlander are still ultra reliable, affordable priced and the hybrids get great fuel economy over competition.

@@TFLtalk the $19 Leaf is the worst argument Roman could make. It’s fine as a second vehicle, which makes it elitist already, but the range is too short to handle anything other than local commutes and chores, and the charging is one of the slowest available which makes it unreasonable for road charging. Since apartments do not have the ability to charge overnight and are forced to use charging stations, using a Leaf would mean being stuck waiting for an hour+ charge every day due to the short range and slow charging speed. Who’s close minded again? Maybe let other TFL team members handle the EV commentary from now on, and stick to the $100k+ purchases that have already had the content milked to death by other KZread channels.

Yes, Toyota's “truck” reliability has taken a hit. I cannot comment on the future, but I can in the present. Today, I would remove the Tundra from my shopping list if I were in the market for a full-sized truck.

Exactly... I was looking at the Tundra last fall when I was in the market for a truck. I decided to hold off until we saw a little more longevity out of the 2021 and up model, and decided on a 2020 F150 5.0 Lariat with under 13k miles. I'm happy to revisit the Tundra in 4 or 5 years. I expect they will come back better than ever. If they don't, another Ford or perhaps a Ram will be in my future.

I did, but not for this reason. I bought a new f150 in November, mostly interior wise over the tundra. I found the center console edge to be kinda painful when leaning my leg on it, too sharp of an edge, the Ford was better. Next was forward visibility. I found the windshield much more agreeable in the f150, as I felt I could see more of the world through it than the tundra. My xlt f150 came with the 12" infotainment screen, I like it. Third, this xlt has the towing brake controller, And a 36gal tank. And my local Ford dealer knocked off $7k from sticker! My only regret was buying the short box, I should've went with the foot longer, 6.5' bed.

I’m in the process of buying a new titan. 5 year 100k bumper to bumper and lifetime powertrain warranty on a naturally aspirated v8. Love yota but they have jumped the shark… price and quality. Tundra and Tacoma just feel cheap now

@@1FiftyOverland I deliver parts to mechanic shops and paint and body shops in the west texas area and i see more ford and chevy trucks in the shops than the titans, tundras and rams, i’ve got a 2019 ram 1500 rwd quad cab back in october of 22 and it had 8,666 miles on the odometer and now it’s got 143,500 miles on it and runs like a champ, sure it’s mostly highway mileage and i keep up the maintenance and about EVs, not quite my thing, i just say go what works for you, my truck is a all around work and daily driver it’s my first ram truck and i love it especially the interior and ride so yeah 🤷🏼‍♂️

Unless you are like Consumer Reports, you are not independent. If you accept plane, hotel, food compensation, free test vehicles, you are being compensated by the manufacturer. Saying it does not matter is the same excuse politicians use when accepting millions in "contributions".

@@leechburglights I agree that their is no such thing as an un- bias individual, and as soon as that individual is receiving compensation, gifts, and special treatment from a manufacturer, that bias greatly increases. Concerning Consumer reports, it all depends on what bias you are referring to. In my opinion, they are bias toward safety, fuel economy, and comfort over performance and handling I would not say that they under report any negatives, like I see with TFL. Their quality reports are based on their subscribers experiences, and while there may be bias their, at least you have multiple reviewers that are actual owners.

Their reliability is based on thousands of independent subscribers NOT on one or two individuals. Name ONE so called YT automotive Journalist that can make any of those claims.

Reading all these comments it’s clear the Loyal Toyota Tundra customers are not happy with the New Tundra (myself included). Too many gizmos and useless gadgets, prices are crazy..

Toyota hasn't announced the repair for the recall yet.

Toyota is no more or less reliable than most top modern manufacturers. People will take sides one way or the other. Toyota has had bad transmission and oil burning engines for years. The general public just are more aware of it now. They have been living on their old reputation for over a decade.

Respectfully disagree. There's a reason they're consistently listed as one of the top manufacturers for reliability. It doesn't mean they don't have their own issues on occasion, but it does mean they generally have fewer issues than their competition. As someone who has owned and regularly driven vehicles from each of the big 3 (GMC, Ford, and Dodge in my case) and a Toyota, I can honestly say that the Toyota has been the most reliable by far.

incorrect, cancelled implies that their behaviour has made them unhirable/unpurchasable.....which is exactly what is happening to these new gen toyota trucks. More often than not cancelled happens when a person leans too far into controversy on purpose only to find that weren't as imune to public backlash as they thought

Here's my points. First, Truck King's misadventure. It's definitely a money shift case and he shifted from 5th to 1st. I've watched again and again when the issue occurred and you can hear the transmission the knocks when he was forcing the stick to engage. Engine didn't had to go red line, damaged was already done once he released the clutch. Good lord only that part failed. If it wouldn't had failed then either the trans or the engine would have taken the hit. It's a human error, it's not Toyota's fault. BTW errors do happens to everyone, not blaming Truck King by any means. Second, Tundra's engine recall. Toyota recalled voluntarily about 100k Tundras. Not all 100k is having this issue. Probably a few hundreds or a couple of thousands at most will or may have that case. My take would be that Toyota should not mess with these and should remplace the entire engine, not only the short block. Would cost about the same, more or less, as they have to pay all this labour, counting all this afterwards. Why Toyota is messing on that, I don't know. So Toyota, you need to step up on that, it's your call. Your (Toyota) reputation as a company will be affected in some degres, no caused by this issue but the way you (Toyota) are handling it. Sometimes it takes an hammer to slam a fly to calm down everyone, specially some KZread Channels that loves to trash on everything to have more views. But again this is my opinion. Thanks TFL team to take a step back and stay out of this and be in the middle and be honnest and not trashing the brands like some other YT Channels like to do for more views. Great Video, thanks.

With all due respect. Ben Hardy said it better than anyone. Every person driving any EV at any time feels trapped. If nothing goes wrong it may work out. It may work out often. But you always feel trapped by the range. EVs are great short range. But let's face it you need an extra gas car to cover the situations where an EV simply won't work. And Americans can barely afford their primary car much less an EV also. It just can't work. They may force us but we will not go willingly because we just cannot afford an EV. The income isn't there.

Replace those steps with rock sliders on the Raptor; it’s one upgrade that will improve the value of the truck when you inevitably sell it.

I have watched many automotive YT channels and would rate you somewhere between Journalist and Influencer. An automotive journalist would provide all the information an avid consumer would want when deciding what to purchase. Your channel in many cases, highlights the good and minimizes the bad. Not all of your employees report in the same manner but the youngest seem to be more likely to downplay issues that I find important. If a transmission temperature approaches levels that will significant shorten the fluid life while operating the vehicle within the design limits, then that would be a concern for me. If a vehicle is properly built and it breaks the transfer case because the 4WD system allows 100% torque to be applied to one locked wheel, then there is a design problem and detuning the engine would concern me. If a manufacturer moves production from America to Mexico where wages are 1/6 that of the U.S. and the vehicle price increases more than $10k over the previous version and it has quality control issues, that would concern me. If a manufacturer has to recall 100k vehicles that may have to be completely disassembled to replace an engine on a $80k vehicle and the mechanic is being shorted on time given, that would concern me. If one manufacturer has all those problems in one year, I would not consider their product. It may have just be a figure of speech but if you are not sure if your would buy a new Tundra today with all you know, you need to find a new business.

Roman, with all due respect. You can't buy a Tundra if you only have one vehicle. If you have several options to use, if it goes into the shop, then it's different. This is the issue. It's like having your cell phone break but worse. You are stuck. I'd wait until they figure it out. 😅😂😊

If you have to ask the question RE:Toyota, then yes it has been damaged to a certain degree. I picked up a ZR2 Bison for less than a TRD Pro recently, competition is there. They need to fix their sh*t before they lose some fanboys.

And unfortunately the new 2025 Ram 1500 full size pickup truck, with it's new TT Hurricane 6CYI engines are having major problems and blowing up !!! Which it's not good at all !!! 🤦‍♂️🤦‍♂️🤦‍♂️👎👎👎👎

Yes for sure Toyota has taken a really big hit on the current issues with the Tacoma and Tundra.. reliability and design and high pricing.. combined these issues are hurting Toyota.

When I bought my car 11 years ago, I wanted safety, reliability, and fuel efficiency. I love my car but eventually I will have to trade it in for a new car. In my state, I don't see any charging stations at all, and I have heard it's expensive to install a charging station in your house. Until charging stations are around my area, I will get an internal combustion engine car or a hybrid. I commend you on your hard work to present reviews on various SUVs, trucks, etc. Don't take the harsh comments personally because you have more important things to take care of. Those who make harsh comments, don't know how hard you work to get the pick-up trucks and SUVs to test.

Nissan made a critical mistake ,by Discontinuing there Titan Full size pick up truck with it's V8 engine !! Because it was a very good full size pickup truck !! The problem was it had poor marketing , and they should have updated the design styling ,of there full size pickup truck !! Plus they should have updated the Technology as well !!! So i did blame the truck, i blame Nissan for not doing the right things so that there full size pickup truck would have survive, especially because it had a Reliable V8 engine !! Plus another thing that would help there for size pickup truck ,is that they could have Offer a brand new 8 to 9 speed Automatic transmission, for better efficiency and fuel economy !!! 🤦‍♂️🤦‍♂️🤦‍♂️

@@jayhiggins5239 2012 f150 ecoboost.....climate control electronic went out in 6mths... replaced... then another went and they had to remove the dash.... this while dealing with the bucking and complete loss of power on humid days... several computer updates that never fixed the problem... water dripping from the cargo brake light.... should I go on..... bought new in 2012 sold the junk... in 2013.....

I only bought ford trucks but would buy different cars..... for some reason real truck guys will by any car but only a Ford (chevy, Ram and so on) I never will buy another ford truck.... and I have friends that will never buy a chevy truck again... and to be honest.... Hey guys. You should make a tire deflator/inflator kit. Brand it as TFL. One, you guys need one for every journalist. Two, the average Joe needs a good kit (don't put junk in it) that works. Do a series on picking the equipment, how to use it, why to pick kit A over kit B. That type of thing. Call it "Trail GOODIES" or something like that. If you review some equipment with integrity THAT would be helpful to people who don't have a tribe to help them pick this stuff and don't want to buy multiple times. Just a thought. Steve

The fact Toyota had to detune the engine by like 6-7hp and same amount of torque as not to harm the manual transmission tells you a lot about where Toyota is at right now. So if anyone adds an exhaust or any kind of power adder, they could make the manual unreliable. Course after saying the engine is detuned, they destroy the clutch. Toyota died when Akio Toyoda stepped down in 2023.

Rear wheel steering is awesome it's a shame that more manufacturers do not incorporate it in their vehicles. I had it in my 91 Dodge Stealth R/T Twin Turbo and my friend had it in his Honda Prelude.

GM tried it in the 2000's. It just never caught on. It could be added complexity and cost, or maybe that people just weren't used to it.

Manufacturers don't like comparisons, but that's THE most important thing for buyers. That's why you guys do well. Keep doing the comparisons. In fact, I would like even more detailed comparison spreadsheets on your website. As expensive as vehicles are these days, comparisons matter more than ever!

Toyota used to be known for affordable, reliable, and simple vehicles. That is no longer the case for some of their models. I will check back in on Toyota trucks in 3-5 years, hopefully that is enough time for them to figure out and fix all the issues (and the scandals). Good thing my previous gen Tundra is still going strong

Remember that Toyota has fumbled numerous times over the past 25 years, terribly! If anyone knows how to come back from a downturn, Toyota does. Obviously their truck sales will take a hit in the short run. But in the long run, they will do as they always have and build it better than anyone else. They will do this to the point of the truck lineup they had in 2019. This whole "rage against Toyota" that keeps piling on will eventually be overshadowed by other woes by other manufacturers. Then in the middle of 2026, without anyone knowing, Toyota will quietly take the spot they once had.

Strange that TFL has totally drunk the EV coolaid considering there are barely any electrified trucks and they're mostly just for people with really deep pockets.

No one is forcing anyone to buy an EV. I am not interesting in buying one but I love to see them on the road. They will never be inline in front of me at the gas station and with 7% of new vehicles being EVs, that has to put a dent in the gasoline demand and result in lower gas prices. If you parrot the EV naysayers, you are just an unpaid shill for the oil companies.

Roman, With all due respect, Shallow pockets falls on deaf ears. Why? Putting dog stickers on Stubby, basically throwing that truck away. Spending money on a Wyoming state car to make it look like a police car. For what good reason? Painting lipstick on a Jag. Masking a Cybertruck, which looks cool, may help with promoting the company, but was that free? There are more examples. By the way, I will order your black hoodie when fall comes around. My Tundra is going on 2 years with 18,000 miles. I realy like my truck. Goog gas mileage even when towing. No complaints.

Any benefit for a woman not needing to go to a sketchy gas station goes right out the window the first time they run out of battery at night and need to stop for an hour at the back of a sketchy Walmart to charge, which is far more dangerous for them.

Toyota concluded there investigation and also changed part numbers on the bearings in early 2024. Any 2024 Tundra built after this change won't be affected. If you can verify the date of manufacturing you would "probably" be fine.

No its not being canceled I refuse to believe that. The hybrids haven't had much problems (the regular hybrids I'm not talking about Iforce max or hybrid max but regular hybrid and prime)

The problem I have had is the manufacturers seem to be looking to the general public to finish their R&D. Look at the amount of TSB's out there issued as they learn more about their products. I have purchased a lot of new vehicles over the years. I buy new because I do not want to face the problems of used. But new doesnt guaranty less problems. And please notice this. Andre says he wouldnt buy a tundra. Of course not, he needs this thing to get him to work reliably. Roman says he would buy one no problem. Of course, he could pick one of his many vehicles to drive while waiting for the tundra to be fixed. Just not a luxury that many families have.

Some of it is simply bad engineering.

We currently own outright a 2014 Toyota Sienna base model with 200,500 miles at the moment with the 3.5 V6 motor. The only time that we've ever done to it is brakes, oil changes every 5,000-6000 miles, front struts, tires, 1 rear coil spring, transmission fluid changes about every 60,000-70,000 miles, the main drive belt, & belt tensioner and i think that's about it. All the parts were bought from the dealer because we had gotten 175k miles on the original parts, so we went that route vs aftermarket. Inlaws owned a 2005 Camry 4cyl, that had a few basic repairs and they sold that car off to a highschool kid when it had 315k +/- miles and it was still running pretty good. Wife owned a 2007 Prius that she used for diving to work at different locations long distances, and i believe besides oil changes, tires, and brakes, i don't think she ever had to do much to it and she ended up selling it off to a guy when the car had 280k miles and was still running good. So we personally haven't had much bad luck at all just with basic high mileage repairs and basic maintenance stuff. I think the next vehicle we look at is going to be a Toyota, but nothing built after 2017/18 though.

It’s less than 0.3% of tundra sales. The hard numbers are in the car care nuts video. Still unacceptable but I own one and haven’t had one issue. Now my brother had injectors fail at 1,000 miles on his gmc 5.3, should he sell it before it leaves him stranded?

I dont have any of these problems with my Honda Ridgeline.

Toyota has never been perfect. They always had some issues and recalls. Toyota strength has always been that they quickly fix issues, have way less issues, higher resale value, and last longer than 99% of other car brands. That strength still exist.

But concerning the Tundra, the issue cannot be fixed 100%. Watch videos of how much of that $80k + truck has to be disassembled just to access the engine. And they expect a mechanic to reassemble it perfectly, all torques to factory spec. Toyota gives less than 30 hours replace the short block and would give less for a long block. I would not want one that may need an engine replacement or one that had an engine replaced

Toyota’s Frame Rust recall expired…

Toyota fan here, but recently bought a new f150, mostly for the interior comfort and features for the money, over the tundra. I've second guessed this decision a bit, but now I'm glad I avoided this debacle.

Thanks guys for the great content. We own two vehicles in the Toyota Family. A 2019 Tacoma and a Lexus GX460. I went in and looked (at both) as we were thinking about a GX550 and I wanted to drive the new Tacoma. Especially with the Lexus, I didn't feel like that quality was on pair with what we currently have. Like they went with cheaper materials and got away from what made the GX460 so great. They both just felt less solid. So, we decided we are going to go with a certified pre-owned (newer) GX460. Not sure if any of this relates to any of Toyota's issues, but thought I'd put it out there.

Regarding Roman’s prediction at 1:01 that EVs will increase in sales next year, that’s not a big revelation since they have sold more than the previous year for probably the last 10 years running. The only thing slowing is the rate of sales increase.

GM compared to Toyota on fixing a recall vehicle.. this engine replacement will be a killer to the bottom line

Best break down on the facts regarding the main bearing failure . (not the social media unsubstantiated rants) is on car care nut you tube a master diagnostic technician for Toyota for more that 20 yrs owns his own shop and separates the facts from the myths out there . Highly recommended he presents the pros and cons and what’s next .

The CCN can repair his own Tundra if it needs a new engine but most owners cannot. If you own a 2022-2024 Tundra it has lost a lot of value and a new engine will not rectify that. If you have one and need to sell it you will lose quite a bit. If your Tundra needs a new engine, short or long block, there is major disassembly of the truck required to access the engine. Do you want your $80k truck completely disassembled and reassembled ?? No matter how you look at it, Tundra owners are in a bad situation and other than "buy-back", Toyota cannot make them whole.

@@clarkkent9080 you are assuming that Toyota will not fix the problem. You are also assuming that every vehicle will break down. That's not the case here. Are thing not good for them at the moment? Not they aren't. But things like this have happened in the past. Toyota's reputation was built on how it handles the issue over the long term, not the short term. That's why everyone has forgotten about the error Toyota has experienced 25 years ago. Yes it does suck, but their history shows how they always handle the situation. There are current manufacturers that do not follow through as much as Toyota does.

@@leechburglights Why are people applauding Toyota for a voluntary recall, when a mandatory recall would certainly have occurred for something as serious as engine failure. Toyota knew about the problem in early 2023 at the latest and was investigating but until the recall the public did not know how many vehicles were affected and the seriousness of the problem. The thousands of owners that purchased their Tundra after Toyota knew there was a problem but before the recall may not see that as Toyota making things right when a stop sale should have occurred. Tundra owners covered by this recall are screwed, plain and simple. The value of their vehicles has dropped significantly, it will be difficult to sell, and if Toyota authorizes an engine replacement, the entire front of your $80k+ new vehicle must be disassembled in order to access the engine. Who wants gobber the mechanic tearing apart a brand new complex vehicle? And the labor hours that Toyota allocates for an engine replacement means the mechanic either rushes the job or loses money on the job. If Toyota buys back the recalled Tundras, then and I would agree that they did the right thing. If they authorize a long block and allocate more hours for the swap, then I would agree that they did what most would expect. If they authorize a short block and do not allocate more labor hours, then they will have done the cheapest repair possible. Time will tell.

He said any tech can do a long block repair pretty easily, it's the short block repair that takes a skilled tech that would be dicey. My advice to you is don't talk about stuff you don't understand.

@@stevieray1828 As a Master Toyota Mechanic, a certification that he still holds, I would assume that he is qualified to do his own repair and I see no reason why Toyota would not agree. It may vary by state but warranty work can be performed by a Dealership or authorized repair facility. The CCN seems to be a very good mechanic and he would most likely do a good job no matter what Toyota decides. No one including you knows what Toyota will eventually authorize be it short or long block. In either case, major disassembly of the front of the truck is required to replace even a long block and if you ever dealt with a dealership you know that every mechanic is NOT the CCN and Toyota is not allowing adequate labor hours as stated by Toyota mechanics. Now before you reopen that pie hole, maybe you should understand what is involved before talking about stuff you don't understand. Watch 2022 TOYOTA TUNDRA ENGINE REBUILD IS COMPLETED! to see what they will do to your Tundra just to access the engine and what is involved if it is a short block only. Do you really believe that every part will be correctly reassembled and torqued just like in the factory where that detailed work is done by robots? The 2022-2024 Tundras have lost thousands in value. If you don't believe me stop by a dealer and if you find one that is even willing to buy yours, you will be shocked at what they are offering.

All the reasons I bought a 2023 Tacoma TRD Pro instead of turbo/hybrid/etc. Reliability is not an issue (though gear hunting in the transmission line is).

The 9 speed ZF transmission in my 2017 Honda Pilot was given bad reviews from the start. I didn’t give those opinions much credence until that transmission failed at only 72,000 miles. It also goes to show that any brand can have issues since their suppliers provide parts to numerous car companies.

Maybe this is something that some of the blame can go to the government’s ridiculous requirements for the car manufacturers. Especially the electric direction. Which personally I don’t favor that, but just don’t get rid of everything else.

Sorry, we don't say ZF in the british way, we say it in the german way. Zahnradfabrik Friedrichshafen. But in german we say it a little bit harder than the brits. 😁 Dashboards, seats, electronics, radios, fuel senders or parts of the engines are build by suppliers and not just the big ones like ZF, Bosch, Continental or Aisin but there are a lot much smaller companies. Magna is a canadian-austrian company founded by the austro-canadian Frank Stronach (who was born close to Arnold Schwarzenegger). They bought parts of Steyr-Daimler-Puch.

I have a model y and it's great for short commutes but if i ever go on long commutes or long distance I take my gas car. I am selling my Y end of the year. Not really into it.

Here is a solution for Toyota and the Tundra. Announce that all Tundras from the new model year of 2022 on have a 100,000 mile transferrable no deductible warranty with no year limits as long as the owner can prove all maintenance done at the required intervals. I am a V8 guy but would consider buying one with a warranty like that.

Even with that warranty, knowing that I am paying north of $80k and if the engine fails, they disassemble the entire truck to access and repair the engine and expect a mechanic to reassembly everything perfect and torqued to factory specs, is a not interested answer.

Even with a 100,000 mile warranty, I would get pretty upset after the third time it goes to the shop for 3 months to be rebuilt knowing that it may just fail again after that warrantee runs out. The problem isn’t that it has no fix; the problem is that the fix just puts the engine right back to where it was, and just as likely to fail again in the future.

Its been bad. My 16' Tacoma had tons of issues from brakes, to the rear diff locking up, and even popped a transmission. They have a few reliable models and some real stinkers... The huge rust problems, random blow joint blowouts, I mean... Has it really ever been so great outside of the 4R / Land Cruiser world...

Just rented a 2024 tacoma that would not hold boost at merging speeds, about 50% throttle and more. Checked all the piping and nothing seemed loose, refilled with premium and it only got slightly better. When it cut boost the whole truck shuddered and lunged forward and back. 25%-40% throttle pulled amazing and was plenty quick. Truck only had 5000 miles. I'm still buying one but this was super weird. I'm wondering if there's a certain tune or limitation on rental cars? Never got a check engine light.

You guys should put timestamped segments in your videos. Once I realized this whole video had other topics, I didn't feel like skipping through trying to find the Toyota convo so I bailed.

You mean where they have the truck internationally for 10 years with a different engine and then do a slight refresh and bring it to the US market and say it is "all new?"

Manufacturers don't like comparisons. It does not have to be physical side by side comparisons. Alex on Autos as part of his reviews will list comparisons on HP, interior/exterior dimensions, etc..

I only blame Toyota partially. The pressure to make everything Greener and MPG friendly has forced builders to under power and turbo charge the 💩 out of every vehicle. We all know this is backward, but nobody just says it. There WILL be long-term effects that we WILL see. It runs so counter to logic that it actually shocks me. Anyway, I love you guys and everything you're doing. I watch it all. Thanks.

Underpowered? Trucks with less than 300hp and 4 gears were doing fine for generations. The issue isn’t the need to go green, the issue is that they have been chasing those high power numbers to be “class leading” way beyond what is necessary (to the point that people tow at 80mph because the truck has the power for it, becoming death traps for anyone nearby) and the best way to hit those high numbers without just spitting gas out the tailpipe with a V8 is to go Turbo. If trucks dropped back down to sub-350 HP numbers, there would be no need to ban the V8’s as they already run very efficiently when detuned to that power level. Will they be slower? Of course, but the number one job of a truck is to get there safely, not get there first. It makes me wonder if a 6 liter diesel detuned to 650 lb-ft of torque could meet all emissions regs without the use of a DEF and DPF system.

Have you guys done a review of competing 3.0 diesels. If so how can I search for it?

ZF isn't the first to do the electric trailer thing. There is an American company doing it too

A lot here well most humans have short memories or are too young to remember or even be aware but in short the answer is absolutely not. Toyota went through two huge issues far bigger than this one and 2000 to 2002 with a number of different engines across engine lines sludging like crazy in replacing many engines and 2010 and 2011 and the sun acceleration issues a number of deaths occurring in both time. People saying it’s the end of Toyota well obviously not. Search for a manufacturer that’s absolutely perfect and I’ll show you when pigs can fly

I think the vast majority of Americans have spoken and the sales figures show we as a country don’t care for electric cars for various reasons. Mine personally is infrastructure (or lack there of) and range (I drive 100 miles plus to work once a week and it would sit in the weather uncharged till I get back) not to mention incredibly high electricity costs here). But his bias for electric and his shall I say air of smugness shines thru.

No one is forcing anyone to buy an EV. EVs made up 7% of all new vehicle sales and that percentage is increasing every year. I would not buy an EV but every person that does reduces the demand and price for gasoline. Anyone who doesn't own an EV but complains about them is an unpaid shill for the oil companies.

Roman, but EVs do suck, my wife also hates them.

@TFLtalk No, but a lot of Uber drivers use them, so I've rode in a lot of EVs. Tesla are straight garbage ride sucks, God awful road noise. The best riding EV I've been in is a polestar.

The reason many Uber drivers have electric vehicles is because of their low cost of operation. Vehicle choice for many is a financial decision. Choice of vehicle is not based on status, environmental impact, politics, etc.

Every time toyota does a complete redesign there are a bunch of issues that ensue. Typical for any new model. It's what toyota does to iron out those issues that make them reliable over a long lifecycle.

I will never buy a GMC vehicle where the most basic thing to do is to turn on lights is through a screen.

Wouldn't be surprised if the Tacoma and some Lexus vehicles get recalled from the Lexus side the new GX that uses the tundra engine I wouldn't be surprised if that gets recalled and the Tacoma gets recalled for something. I would say get the previous 4 Runner not the brand new one coming soon and also get the previous Tundra with the 5.7 liter V8.

I traded in my 2022 tundra for an f150. New engine issue is understandable im just not interested in going though the recall engine / parts swapping. Your gonna loose money on that trade in either way. I was given 40k. i owed 39k when i traded it in. Coyld have been worse.

The bigger the are, the harder they fall... I own a 2015 Tacoma TRD Off-road, if I'm ever forced to buy another truck, it will be a 2024 Nissan Frontier. That is the new Tacoma.

My take away from your info. Excellent presentation. Some comments. About EVs. Since most folks have two vehicles or more , a compact EV is the perfect around town, short trip vehicle like the Nissan Leaf and a gas car for long trips. Keep it plugged in at home and good to go. Now with the new Toyota V6 turbo engine and the theory of metal contaminates in the bearings. Why wouldn;t that metal debris get through the oil passages and score the cylinder walls too? I like V8s (own a Titan) so would never buy one. On testing. I don't like testing where drivers intentionally try to abuse an engine and its transmission to it's breaking point. I have never had an engine or transmission failure on any of my cars or trucks because I maintain them well and drive them the way they were meant to be driven. I had a Ranger p/u with a manual and never tried to skip gears at high RPMs.The only replacement was a routine clutch replacement at about 90,000 miles. I gave the truck to my son and he used it for many years too. You can break anything if you want too. So when that happens and I see it on a video I don't think any less of the quality of the product.

You guys ran Nissan ads for an entire month non stop so when you say you dont get paid from the OEM's ..... who was paying for that month long Nissan ad a year or 2 ago 🤔

Toyota is the most profitable Andre? Then why do they have the most debt? The Toyota Tacoma was the shortest lived truck on TFL. And you're telling me you would buy one? I think not

If Ford can replace 100,000 plus engines so can Toyota.

I had long thought a Tacoma would be my next truck, but that is no longer the case. Ranger, Colorado/Canyon and Frontier (all made in the USA) are still on the table.

Even if the engine is known to fall out after 100 miles, the transmission slips, the transfer case stops functioning, and the bed rusts after a year, it’s still better then any other brand because it is still a Toyota and that name is all that matters.

All the vibrating alert stuff seems too dangerous. It causes me to have a delayed reaction and take my attention away from the road for that half second.
