You could probably buy directly from a farmer and get a lamb processed by meat processing facility. Just make sure to have a big enough freezer or go in together with friends/family. We did that for half a cow. Hoping to do that next for pork with local farmers. I should go see if some of the local sheep farmers sell lamb. Idk what it is about it, but the steaks at the grocery store are like $30 and taste flavourless. It's definitely the grain fed stuff. Also the meat is a different colour, it's not as dark. @@allthebanter9316 Lamb isn't a gamey as some meats--mutton is much more so, but there's still a definite "funky" element you'll get whenever eating any sheep or goat. For myself i'm used to it, and a lot of ethnic cuisines that cook a lot of goats and sheep know how to mask some of that with potent herbs and spices. Still, I would say that Lamb and Mutton are still "gamier" than some wild meats like Venison or Elk.

I’m an American and the first time I tried lamb I fucking loved it
Butterflied, grilled leg of lamb is my go to when it’s on sale
“Lamb isn’t ur favorite” *he said as I abruptly interrupted a rhetorical to say, “yes it is”*
"You don't like gamey food because it tastes gamey." This is up there with telling people they'll like fish if they cover up all the fishiness. ;)

Lambs not really a gamey meat tho, gamey meats tend to be hunted, hence game, meanwhile lamb has to be farmed. “Gamey” is just a descriptor that essentially boils down to less fatty when comparing the same species, IE farmed duck vs shot duck

"You don't like lamb because you're not preparing it right" Proceeds to do the most common lamb recipe
You can also make Mint Chutney as a dipping sauce for lamb chops.

The gamey flavor is one of the reasons lamb is my favorite meat. It's way more subtle than other game meats like venison, but you still get a bit of the funk.

If you dislike the gaminess, then you can also let the lamb “marinate” in milk overnight (we do it often in greece) After that pad it dry and use it as wanted. It won’t smell or taste gamie 😊
@romanwalter4969

@@miguelsilva9085 I wouldn’t call it stink, but I’m sure you know what I mean. I suggest you try it, after marinating it in milk the lamb has no gamie or in your words stink (at least from my grandma’s, mom & my experience) Try it, I would actually love an honest feedback from your side ☺️ Cheers, and as OP posted, enjoy lamb 🐑

I do that when i shoot grouse, i soak it in Milk for 1-2 hours, i still like the taste to be a little "stronger" or gamier. Season to flavour and throw it on the grill, baste it all the way through cooking with butter. Amazing.

@@slimpickens01 Probably just tax incentives /write offs or something. I'm sure you can get new Zealand lamb directly from farmers if you live there. But if Australian lamb is cheaper (which could definitely be possible) then super markets are just gonna import it rather than buy the more expensive local product.
We don't eat much of it because it's overpriced here 😂. Steaks are cheaper per pound in most places.
