    And yeah the mechanics for the hotel dlc is annoying. It forces you to surround nice looking assets with commercial and office. The radius should be way larger. People irl don't expect their hotel to have shops right outside the lobby door

    A larger radii -- particularly as the hotel size increases -- would go a long way, but honestly there's generally reasonable ways to fit the required stuff in without ruining the looks. It's mostly been an issue for me where I've gone overboard with unique buildings, which chew up huge amounts of space.

    Honestly, I agree with you on one thing: as time goes on, that joke of OB turning into an eternal redevelopment series is starting to sound less like a joke and more like a possibility, and I for one would be all for it. But even if it doesn't happen, I'd still love to see more CS1 from you in addition to CS2. The thought of a second snowfall city, with all the new additions since Noveria, just popped into my mind as I was typing this, actually

    @@OVERCHARGEDEGG The whole city becomes hotels to mimic how Airbnbs are slowly taking over most touristic spots and driving rent up for most of the inhabitants lol. The old farmer's descendants somehow managed to keep his small patch of land and keep it as a farm, but now they also offer tours for kids

  • @lukerazer9565

    That farmer is still alive?? Also, I've found that cranking all my hotel prices to 100% works best for profits unless they're really not meeting demands.

    It's so amazing that the original game still has more game play value then the new game. But with the help of the modder's Cities Skylines 2 is definitely starting to become as fun to play as the original game. Thank's Egg man for continuing to play both game's because why limit ourselves especially when both game's have personalities of their own.

    Future livestream idea: after you finish orchid bay, you cand install mods and make a overall cleanup (tmpe, node controller etc). Kind of adding a finishing touch to the city

    How about a road diet for that main avenue in downtown? Maybe one with wide sidewalks for pedestrian comfort. Or does it have tram tacks

    You can use the mod that lets you manually change the colour of the hotels(and other buildings). In some instances it makes the hotels fit better into the surroundings. The mod is called Repaint.

    Great lil plug and play episode. And yes one of the worse mechanics. I mean a cabin in the woods won't sucessful unless you have a catfish cafe right next to it lolol. And as always, saved some nodes...whoo hoo!!

    Hey redevelopment is a realistic part of City Building, it adds history and character imo. Maybe the 1 farmer who never wanted to sell has finally passed away and his kids who inherited aren't as stubborn or thrilled to have a farm literally right next to the downtown. Orchid Bay has been developing for hundreds of years at this point many generations have passed.

    I suddenly got serious Rocky Horror Picture Show vibes from that hotel on the hill at the end. "Dammit, Janet"... which of course also fits nicely into the other town-naming theme of OB. Pleeeease can we name it along those lines?!

    I honestly wouldn't mind an Orchid Bay redevelopment series. It'd be cool to revisit some of the older areas and redevelop them now that the city/county is more mature. I forgot about the farmer and his land & fish farms! Maybe his grandchildren got into the hotel business and decided to finally break dear old granddad's bucolic wishes to turn the land into their hotel HQ/office complex, lol. "In Orchid Bay's early days, our granddad was a pioneer, working the land to a better tomorrow. Now, the land looks to a new future! Move into our new offices, close to the waterfront and the heart of Orchid Bay. Its prime location makes it possible to visit every corner of the county. And be sure to visit our trademark Design Hotel, built through a collaboration of Eggselsior Hotels and Chirpy Architects--"

    I do think that’s what’s missing is making a marina , could place a hotel on the water front most cities have them and think would make the downtown look even more impressive

  • @twincitiescrush19
    @twincitiescrush19Ай бұрын

    Think the consensus is, if the hotel hits 80% + popularity, you can crank the pricing all the way to the highest.

  • @foamyesque

    @foamyesque

    Ай бұрын

    80% is the breakpoint for (almost) all hotels. Rental cabins actually make more money if they're made as cheap as possible. A bit of extra helps cover for decay due to crime/noise, but you only need to go to higher %s if you're trying to go for the unlocks. Once you have 'em, 85% ought to be fine. Things that contribute to nature: Trees, undeveloped spaces, water; things that contribute to sightseeing: entertainment value (uniques & formal parks); commercial translates as 1 square of commercial = 1 point of commercial rating regardless of specialization or density. Office I'm less certain on but appears to be roughly 2 squares per 1 rating of office zone, with maybe some contributions from city service buildings.

    Walt Disney said that Disneyland would never be "finished" because he was obsessed with finding ways to make it better. So keep making Orchid Bay better! (Or at the very least, you've got to make it to 100 episodes. 🤷‍♂️)

  • @foamyesque
    @foamyesqueАй бұрын

    One thing I've noticed as I've added in hotel capacity to my city is that it seems to have significantly reduced the loading on my outside connections, in particular the road ones. Beyond that, my preferred hotels are the rental cabin (looks great, very easy requirements, fits in all sorts of park or nature areas), the small hotel (4 wide, easy requirements, nice midrise building with some inbuilt setback), the city hotel (selectable variation so you can make it work in either high-rise or midrise environments, lots of capacity, doesn't look bad as a repeated asset), the old inn (very nice looking building, fits well in more rural or manicured resort spaces, reasonable footprint), and the budget hotel (easy requirements, small footprint, works really nicely as a transition out into lowrise areas). The big five-star ones are guys you centre an entire build around in advance, they are *extremely* prominent and difficult to retrofit into anything built without them in mind from step one.

    Lovely episode and I completely agree with you about the hotel mechanic - it's silly. The buildings look good but the mechanic is just...eh.. I just have them all unlocked and place them where I want! I do like how you've placed yours. Would it be overkill to change the City Hotel you placed at 32:30 into a taller variant? It would differentiate it from the first City Hotel you placed, and this one is in a more high-rise area so the extra height wouldn't be too out of place. Just a thought! :)

    I think congratulations are in order for persevering through that! Yeah, I found the hotel mechanic to be quite buggy and/or poorly implemented. I've buried hotels in a sea of shopping and can sit there and watch it's shopping requirement fluctuate from maxed out to zero even though I haven't changed a thing.

    You can blame the mechanics but the red woods on the conference hotel asset just talked me out of this DLC. I really wish CO would quit creating assets like this. We can add our own trees to buildings and parks; especially if those trees are at ground level.
