Is This The Ultimate Off-Shore High-Speed Cruiser? | £600k Botnia TARGA 46 Boat Tour

There is a hard-core bunch of mariners among the seafaring community who enjoy heading out onto the water when the sea state would ordinarily keep most mariners alongside.
But you cannot head out into big seas on just any old boat.
After all, you are putting your life in the hands of whichever vessel you decide to go out on.
So you have to trust that your boat of choice is up to the job.
And if someone asked me to join them on their Botnia Targa 46 in some rough weather, then I would be aboard faster than you could say 'force 8 gale.'
When I heard that Wessex Marine would be at the 2021 Southampton Boat Show, then I just had to jump aboard their Botnia Targa 46.
So join me as we take a look at this genuine, all-weather off-shore boat.

I've piloted a Targa 46 with flybridge, and found it a wonderful sub 50 foot flying machine both at slow speeds and at 30+ knots. I took this boat from London to the channel Islands on my own and it was a completely amazing experience, which I would love to be able to replicate ASAP! A great tour of a lovely boat.

@@YachtBuoy I will stay in touch, if I get to go over there again I will sometimes need a bit of company, oh the sea state was calm and I didn't exceed 10 knots as the owner didn't need his boat urgently.

I'm inclined to wish they didn't give us so much outdoor space, in exchange for a bit more interior. Bad weather sailing means spending a fair bit of time indoors, and there would still be a good bit of deck space to enjoy if there were three feet less cockpit and more salon. On a 46, you need all the interior room you can get. But she sure is lovely, and she looks as if she's as seaworthy as they get.

I went to the Southampton boat show in 2019 and when I saw the 46 I couldn't believe it. My gf was amused by the fact there were bigger and expensive boats. I explained to her as she herself owned a range rover that this was the equivalent of that and was the 4x4 of the sea. I was shocked to see a 46 as there was no videos on you tube of it so it was nice to see it up close and personal. I had only ever been on a 27ft before hand. Broke my ankle on the day trip 🤕 not so much fun lol

Targa boats in my opinion are very suited for users who normally go from marina to marina. You can drive them to easily punch through bad weathers before reaching your destination, but their spear-like shapes could not provide enough stability at anchor. Those boats are born for motion, not for static use.

They're heavy boats, and sit deeper and more anchored in the water than many boats of similar apparent size. The 46 does appear narrow for its length. But the ones in the 30 range, are not noticeably unstable at anchor. They're not cats nor Florida Bay Coasters, but feel like a traditional seaboat. I wouldn't be surprised if they could find a way to install a gyro in something as big as the 46, if you would insist on one.

I'm really coming to like this yacht in the sub 50' category. Like another commenter mentioned, I would like to see an option for a larger salon and smaller cockpit, though given the engine hatches I'm not sure that's possible. That said, one thing I think that could be do-able is get rid of the forward single berth and aft single berth, add additional fuel tankage, a water maker, and give the boat a true trans-Atlantic capability.

What an awesome boat and so much space. That's awesome. Those mats for beds don't look that comfortable though. I'm sure though that you could get better ones. I've often found the mats or foam pads on boats and even some yachts, are horrendously uncomfortable. With the advancement in hybrid bed technology and getting comfortable mattress with or without springs in them, I find it so odd that some manufacturers will put in such high end appliances like Miele, Bosch, Viking, Furuno, Garmin, Raymore and then the beds are just a cheap foam mat that was cut into shape to fit. I was on a Heesen 60M superyacht and the twin berth guest cabin had Those beds that looked like these. It blew my mind. A $30M ship and the mattress is junk, and hot. It doesn't breathe. Anyway...I'm ranting. Sorry. Excellent video and boat sir.

No. But they make a 30..... From 30 and up, I feel you're mostly buying bloat..... The second head in the 40+ ones, I suppose. Makes bringing guests less awkward. Beyond 46, you'd likely start to lose the tightly wrapped, supported-everywhere spaces which makes them so practical for real world high'ish-speed travel.
