Working on your drumming hand speed is a life long journey. Working on the Moeller technique, working on your drumming finger technique, or just running drumming speed drills...it's all part of it. This is a super simple hand speed workout that you can use on your drum practice pad or your snare drum. I hope it helps!

What's your biggest struggle when it comes to your hand speed?

My left hand just gets stupid with longer phrases and decides it no longer wants to cooperate. Quick licks are fine. But there's no chopping out for me even if I wanted to. I may just need to give this whirl.

I am a beginner and when I drum, I move my under arms, while I see you are moving your wrists only. I don't understand how to do that. I also have a disability in my left hand, which also makes holding the stick (or playing guitar) difficult. 😕

Superb lesson, Stephen! I've been struggling to get past 220+ with my left and hopefully this will help me fix my foundation

Wonderful, the perfect practice item in the right time for me! I spend 20 minutes, more or less, going to work by train. I'm practicing this workout everyday, i hope it will help me in developing fluidity and speed. Thank you Stephen!

You are a great person and resource. Thanks a million! My biggest weakness is in my early days I deliberately avoided double strokes and such. I hate even admitting that.

I just started doing something similar, only adding quintuplets before the sextuplets. I still struggle with feeling odd groupings...hopefully having both 3's and 5's can help. Like the structure you've created. Looking forward to working with your pdfs to give the practice a bit more structure.

I like the idea of playing exercises daily. What would help me is to have either separate chapters for each exercise or a separate video that I could play each day as a play-along. Something like this kzread.info/dash/bejne/fZ6kqdGIoZCWl8Y.htmlsi=y1qZHiuBlc3KHgoq

Are we supposed to practice with the hi hat? Or just the two hands?

I saw that when you are on practice pad you hold drumsticks on the balance point, but when you play on drums live you hold them in the end of the sticks.I do the same.Is that wrong?

  • @StephenTaylorDrums

It's not.wrong and it simply depends on what I'm playing, the volume, etc. in a live setting as to if I choke back on the sticks. Choking back is an incredible way to get power. However, if you need finesse, it's not the best way. We simply need to understand why we are doing what we do. At large venues I will absolutely choke back on that stick
