Is This The New Russell Westbrook?

Спорт

When Russell Westbrook was moved to the Clippers we saw a shift in his role, taking on new duties… or should I say old habits?

    I think he has potential for a comeback season, but i also agree that he needs to work a little bit to clean his decision making and shot selection. If he can shore up those two issues even by a little bit, i think it adds a lot more value to that Clippers team. They have a serious chance to make the WCF with him either way though

    Your favorite is someone who has freakish athleticism with poor shooting and decision making? Who hasn't worked on it his entire career? But plays really hard so makes up for it in other ways mainly by hustling really hard. You're entitled to like whoever but I've always said, if you had nba potential, or even play pick up with your friends, who would you want to emulate? Some guy who has freakish athleticism that you can't emulate, or someone who is less athletic but has honed their skills to the best of their potential? Or if you had a son, who isnt the most athletic guy, who do you want him to idolize after? I go for the dude who worked on his skills and have a thirst to always get better, or a dude who just relies on his athleticism? This is my beef with westbrook. Why congratulate and pat the guy on the back who sure hustles really hard, but isn't actually as good as the others?

    A Westbrook devoting his full energy on defense is a scary thought. I love that he's willing to change. Agreeing to come of the bench for the Lakers really redeemed his career.

  • @mattmannlvca

    @mattmannlvca

    8 ай бұрын

    Coming off the bench did nothing the change happened because he realized the Clippers didn't need his inefficient scoring. His playmaking and remembering how he got to the dance is how he carved a spot on the team. Had he been 6thman Russ, or Mr triple double he'd be out of the league.

  • @melomanace3415

    @melomanace3415

    Russ devoting full energy defensively would be a double edged sword bc he breaks integrity and freelances way too much. Hes incapable of staying solid bc he gambles so much and pretty much does whatever he wants to do. That, along with lack of focus and poor IQ is why hes always been a bad defender despite his physical tools.

Just watch a full game of russ on defense and see how much he gets caught just staring at the ball and losing his man or taking ridiculous gambles and relying on teammates covering for his mistakes.

    He wasn't impacting the team in a profitable way even when he was MVP. He stats paddled thru the league, searching for the personal gain. He never had been a smart guy, the playmaker wasn't his role. He could have been a prolific 3, a devastating defender and have a hand full of rings. Instead he became the guy that people who don't understand anything and have never played basketball love.

    Great vid HV, going off the playoffs & the pre season games are we sure Kd is the best offensive player on the suns? Booker seems to have overtaken him. Or am I jumping the gun ?

  • @ColeSpeaks103

    @ColeSpeaks103

    Definitely jumping the gun, KD struggled in the playoffs yes but while being trapped on a good percentage of possessions. He still maintained his season average of 29 ppg just on 47% instead of 55%. And in this pre season him and Book have been pretty much even in +/- and points per minute. KD is the more willing playmaker as well

  • @TeamSeams
    @TeamSeams6 ай бұрын

    Appreciate the take on Russ' defense. He does like to bait and chase players relying on his (still) elite athletic explosiveness. Haters will isolate a play where overplaying backfires, but the value of the bait and chase is so much higher than an isolated mishap here and there. You could see in the Suns series last year how in the heads of KD, Booker, and CP3 he was with he. They were looking over their shoulders frequently, whether Russ was coming or not. We were excited to see Russ as the primary initiator in a high screen and roll offense, but then the Harden trade happened. It's a shame Russ hasn't had an opportunity to play out his career in a starting role as a primary initiator.

    I feel like if he slows his jumper down and take his time he might start making more than usual cause he has a very fast release. His athleticism has dropped a little and when that usually happens to athletic players they switch to shooting roles more and develop a shot he had a decent mid range to get the job done but now it’s inconsistent but I’m hoping this season we can get a glimpse of how he was with shooting from his mvp year

    And so far in the preaseason, I don't know much weight we'd want to put on it, but, Westbrook in two games. Shot the ball just 1 time in a 15 minute outing & then just 4 times in a 17 minute outing, now I could be completely just overrating, but maybe Westbrook is turning a page in his career into a player that shoots the ball a lot less, and just does the other stuff. But again it's just the reason so we'll see. Just something I picked up.

    Tbh for him to be able to make a team a championship team he’s gonna have to expand his game. He can drive and has a pull-up but he needs a step back or a post game. If he could play the post and add in some post fakes and up and unders / jump hooks he’d be able to prolong his career and make himself more effective when he’s not shooting jump shots. If you can play the post teams really can’t keep you from scoring inside because you can score over the wall. Or at least score when you don’t beat your defender off the dribble

    With his low FG%, he would have been better off with a coach that used him more like a high scoring effective role player. He was overvalued as a result of the poor scoring efficiency, but many teams valued high PPG far too much when he was young and his scoring made him a lot more money than if he had played a more efficient game... maybe take 5-6 fewer shots a game and get his eFG% closer to 50 (see his 2015-16 season).
