He’s not making 50 mil on the Clippers and he isn’t starting. If he was being paid to be your 2nd/3rd best player, you’d be hating him too. He’s making $4 mil and coming off the bench and is like your 5-6th best player.

Also he can show his skills better with these players. I don't know why they ever thought Russ would be able to play off ball with LeBron. Now that he has shown he has no ego and accepted coming off the bench for the Clippers we can see he can still play at a high level when given the keys. It's just a system that suits him much better than the Lakers did

Finally? This playstyle was not an option on any team he played for previously. Russ has always had the highest or second highest offensive load on the team which inherently limits you defensively. As a scorer he’s always been inefficient yet he’s also always been one of the best of all time at getting to the basket which creates opportunities for open teammates. On the lakers his open teammates were old and couldn’t shoot. Now he’s got guys that can push pace in transition and make an open jumpshot. This clippers team is far and away the best situation Russ has ever been a part of.

The fact that Rus comes off the bench only proves how idiotically stacked the Clippers are. But for real, using him as a 6 man is highly tactical. We go through this with a lot of stars. They aren’t the players they once were, then have a hard time adjusting. Then they struggle for a couple years until they learn how to be a role player. Then they either fall off or enter a sort of second prime and figure it out. One example recently is Melo. Klay is going through the transition right now for another example. It shocked me how many people gave up on Russ with his attitude and work ethic but it’s clear he’s figured out how to be a role player and a great one at that

That is AMAZING at 35 years old, and to be fair, at any age; This is the NBA, and he's dominating it on both ends. I am a diehard Clipper fan and like all the players on the team. I have always liked Westbrook, going back to his early days when he started playing with OKC. His downhill and push the pace type of basketball is something I love to watch. I'd like to see him finish off his career with the Clippers regardless if they win a championship or not. But of course I am hoping they can get to the Finals and win it all! Even if they just win one championship with this squad I would be happy. Russ is my favorite player and yes he does have his bad turnovers here and there, and I would rather he attack the basket than shoot the three, but he’s literally become one of the most underrated/unappreciated player in the league. The reason it didn’t work with the Lakers because they tried to make him something he’s not: An off ball shooter. LeBron should have been off ball in the post more and let Russ run point guard. The guy has sacrificed for the Clippers and chose to go to the bench, and playing good defense. He’s always been a dangerous slasher with the ability to rebound and push the ball. Also, Russ is a great playmaker and it shows when you surround him with shooters. Real fans understand how good Russ is. It’s that simple.

As someone who has never been a fan of Westbrook throughout his career I’m really impressed with his ability to accept a lesser role and thrive in it. He’s completely bought into helping his team. He never use to play off ball, didn’t play much defense and IMO most of his career he cared a ton about getting his stats. This new version of him is exactly how you extend your career. He’s giving the clippers exactly what they need, is fine coming off the bench and should win 6th man of the year. I never thought he would be willing to adjust to being a bench player but he’s definitely proven me wrong. Hope he continues to thrive in this role and am def a fan of this version of his play style
