    Back in 1985 I attended an awards ceremony for the engineer in charge of putting Albacore on display at the Portsmouth Naval Shipyard Officer's club. Three of the four framed pictures in the dining room were photographs of the Albacore. The fourth was a painting of the Thresher.

    X-tails tend to benefit from a bit of expo on the pitch if the radio has that facility.

    Hi, i see behind you and to your left on your storage boxes a model of the 007 Lotus car/submarine, do you or have you built one as a functioning vessel as yet ?

    Although my vehicle of choice is different, I'm a hobbyist as well. But because of that hobby, my curiosity does go into other areas of hobby. Such as submarines. But I do have to admit, if I were to ever pursue an interest into the RC submarine hobby world, I could only ever see myself being able to enjoy a submarine of this caliber. What I mean by that is that this one is as fully functional as a "submarine" is by it's very nature. Such as I don't believe I would be able to ever enjoy a submarine that doesn't actually submerce more than the control sys can be maintained. Such as a model they can only submerce everything except the antenna, because it's using something like 2.4 gigahertz. To me that's just not being fully submerged.

    Many people do not realize that 2.4 Ghz radio systems do not work thru water. So if you have a working 75 KHz system, don't be thinking that you shud "update it" to 2.4 Gig. Similarly for UHF cameras, they don't work once the sub goes down.

    Correct, 2.4ghz does not go through water, but most experienced sub captains don't go below periscope depth in any water that is not crystal clear (which is exceptionally rare) . Hence... the "advantage" of the old, low frequency radios is immediately lost.

    Hey, love your videos, I always wanted to build a submarine myself but I have no experience in rc vehicles at all, especially underwater vehicles. Where should I start? I guess somewhere at the electronic parts, my only experience is fighting an LED with an raspberry :/

    I'm guessing it would hit about 8mph at full throttle. Endurance at full throttle would likely be about 15 to 20 minutes, but it would be exceptionally rare to operate it like that.

    How does the radio work underwater?

  • @RCSubGuy

    @RCSubGuy

    2 жыл бұрын

    Exactly as it does above the surface. Radio waves propagate through the medium and transmit data to the receiver. Impurities in the water can cause significant reduction in range, as does the air/water interface, meaning that the further away you are, the more waves that "skip" off the surface and don't make it to the boat.

    The heavy duty switches run on 12V (though they work on 11.1V). My smaller 10A units run on 6 to 12V.
