Jellyfish need the cylinder tanks, they can only swim one way and can’t stop or turn back, they also can’t see or feel their environment so if they get stuck on a corner they’re gonna just be there and it’s gonna damage their bell. It’s actually the perfect animal to abuse because it doesn’t have a central nervous system to even feel pain
@b1oh1
Жыл бұрын
I never knew they could only swim one way. Dumb question, how are only certain species located in specific areas? I know there are underwater currents, but they're not circular. It seems like there would be a traceable path of jellyfish migration. I need to find some books and documentaries on this. I'm thoroughly interested.

@@b1oh1 they’re all dependent on the sea current, that’s why some beaches became infested with them during the monsoon season. There are also freshwater jellyfish that got trap in lakes when the sea level used to be higher

I think it's more of that they shouldn't have corners. There's the vertical disc tanks that are being sold with jellies as kits and the cylinder tanks as well that normally have a very controlled flow. Of course, there are a few that don't require it, but those are tanks that probably need permits because something like irukandji or similar aren't ones you really should be having at home...
@jygergruz9562

Actually that is sort of a myth. Jellyfish don’t need cylinder tanks, but an unexposed flow creator and certain direction of flow. Corners do not damage their bell.

Some Jellyfish actually have eyes
I used to care for jellies when I worked as an aquarist and they definitely need a tank that doesn't have places where the current stagnates (i.e. corners). If jellies settle onto a surface it will actually start to rot their bells and they can get really bad infections. Upside-down jellies requirements are completely different from barrel jellies requirements for sure but they still all need ample space and a strong current!

I'm not on that level of aquascaping. However, I'm pretty active on Reddit in the aquarium and aquascaping subreddits. There are way more people asking for thoughts and critiques there than you'd think. Many do it "correctly" as well, by creating a dry run, getting the positioning right before even selecting the plants. Then they're aided by CO2 and nutrients. They look amazing.

A circular tank is preferred for many things it helps with filtration set up’s it helps the jelly fish not get stuck and what’s important is that the edges in a regular tank can damage jelly fish if they end up running into it they are very complex to take care of properly

Hey in fish tank news, a giant 8 story aquarium in Berlin busted, killing 1,500 exotic fish left for dead on the street. It may not be an existent fish tank anymore, but it's something worth talking about in the next FTR, imo.

Got myself a male and female endler's today, watching them explore the tank and pick at the substrate is almost hypnotizing.

For my larger tanks (40+ gallons) I like the faucet/hose hookup. Yes my muscles are smaller for it, but water changes are much faster lol
My favorite Amphibian - axolotl Turtle - mata mata Snake - (Amazon basin) emerald tree boa Lizard - tree monitor or tegu Crocodile - saltwater

3:49 there is *one* species of jellyfish that doesn’t need a cylinder tank because they’re not free-swimming, which is the Upside-Down Jellyfish. if any other jellyfish doesn’t have a cylindrical tank, they can get cut by the corners and get stuck.

THEY'RE WATCHING @MDFishtanks. Just binge his set up videos and boom. Fastrack to awesome scapes. I grabbed rocks and driftwoof from my #1 favorite camping spot. Brought it into my scape in the living room. LFG!
I worked at a small business pet shop that specializes in primarily fish. Majority of the works sucked the hose to get the water, I myself tried it. I feel immune to all.
My fav amphibian is the axolotl, i have two. One lucy and one wild type. Named Strudel and Moby. Moby is three years old, and strudel is one. :)
Biased but crested geckos/gargoyles are my fave so far. They look like little alligators and are a great first step into keeping reptiles

dang reminds me of the 80 gallon ciclid fish tank my mom had when I was 7, looking back it may have been overstocked but idk.
I've always loved the tiny spring peepers in the West here in the US, think they're more a coastal species and have the ability to change color to match their environment. Super adorable little guys and I'd raise a group of them if I could, but I'm in the wrong area nowadays to build them an outdoor pond The jellyfish question about flow is yes and no at the same time, they are almost entirely made up of water so high flow or an air bubble under their skirt can easily kill them and corners are bad. Jellyfish can't exactly swim, or at least most species can't, and they practically have no senses or ability to course correct so corners are a serious risk of getting stuck for them. I've also heard feeding them is kinda hard due to them being passive feeders so that does rely on flow, but they're kinda like longfin bettas ngl, it has to be pretty specific to not batter them but can't be stagnate either. I've... Actually had a species of jellyfish that was unintentional and the majority of the reason that I tore down a 90gal reef attempt after a year ^^' they were snowflake hydroids and the mobile medusa form in their adult stage easily goes undetected since they're as big as micro bubbles and yeah... They were really destructive because they just ram into and sting everything they touch. Don't reccomend intentionally owning jellyfish, they look cool but most aren't even legal due to how venomous some species are and most need a specialized species tank to survive, which from what I've heard, is a gamble even for experienced people, I just had to have possibly the only exception to the rule and it was a disaster. Really wish I hadn't had that infestation, I miss my clownfish
This was some high quality h2o content. 10/10 actually laughed out loud several times
Chris bottle that energy and share. I need some extra energy today. Favorite amphibian would be frogs. I also really love salamanders.
i feel like humanity would benefit from chris having a weekly livestream of the chaos found at the beginning of this episode
I've been watching since I had fruity pebbles gravel and biding my time doing my work so I can get 5/5's for my tanks, one day. 😛😛 My favourite reptiles are bearded dragons, and my favourite amphibian is the dwarf African Frog. They're really great additions to a planted tank.
QOTW: My favorite reptile is a Komodo dragon because they’re badass, and my favorite amphibian is the red eyed tree frog! I’ve always wanted to raise some of my own!
Having seen this video my wife and I decided you'd flip at out tanks We've been keeping fish just 1 year and started with a beta harem in a 50gallon column it crashed but we now have a giant angel fish community in a 50 gallon bow and a peacock cichlid community in the column the longest tank has been running 6 months
Not sure what is difficult about starting a siphon that way. It is how I drain my tanks and I do it that way because it is easy particularly if the tap is physically lower than the tank.
just set up my new 15 gallon planted and added some snails [ king koopa nerite and some trumpets] . excited to see how it grows. any stocking suggestions are appreciated [ ideally something compatible with neons and peacock gudgeons]
