Is This Electric Trike the ULTIMATE Adventure Vehicle?

Jack heads to Amsterdam for an exclusive first ride/drive of the remarkable BeTriton. Part e-bike, part boat, part camper, it might just be one of the strangest vehicles we've ever featured on the Fully Charged Show. But is it real? Does it work? Will it float?? We put a very large man in it and pushed him out to sea to find out.

Really nice talking to the inventor at the Amsterdam event. He has put a lot of love and effort into this wonderful hybrid thing. He deserves it that his baby will succeed.

Considering how niche the thing is and how limited the market for it is, he's never going to become rich from this thing, and he seems clever enough to know that. This is a labour of love, clearly. And that being the case, I have all the more respect for the guy for ignoring greed and making something that will bring joy and wonder into people's lives. I would like to see a tandem version though, for couples. Because as joyous and wonderous as exploring the world can be, I would personally want to do it with my wife, and I know she'd absolutely love to do such a thing with me.

Maybe jack could take a long trip in that thing, across paths, roads, streats, fields and rivers all just to end up at Robert's house. Sounds like fun to me : )

One thing with the boating part, if someone is adventuring they might be taking the boat through many different waterways and water locations. Depending where you are in the world, this could be disastrous if you take microbial or small invasive species from one place to the other. Some places require you do a full clean of the hull before moving from one body of water to the other.

I'd say my only gripe with is no pedal system to operate it in case of a battery failure, as it seems a bit awkward for using a paddle on. Otherwise, pretty clever design. I was thinking that it would be quite awesome if a vehicle like this could pull up to a J-1772 charging station and charge up, just like an electric car would. With these charging stations everywhere, you never run out of range. And the best part is, for a small vehicle like this, you probably wouldn't even need the DC faster chargers - even just plugging in at level 2 would likely be very, very fast.
Amazing boat ❤

I love the vehicle. The one issue I have with it though is just that using it as a boat is probably just a novelty which will wear off and not many people will use the boat part, so it's just adding weight to the bike making it less efficient so more effort to use. Although the more I think about it I realise that I might use it on the norfolk broads if I had the bike boat thingymebobby. Anyway the boat part is just a little impractical. Also... I've owned 3 boats, still have one, and the biggest reason for buying bigger engines is current and tides. 5 kph is a slow tide; you find yourself on a tidal river with this contraption and it's likely to sweep you away. You need more power on water, not less like this thing. I agree, ditch the boat aspect and just concentrate on a more capable and comfortable camper-trailer.

Mildly disappointed that you need to manually convert it between land and water modes, particularly that you need to get into the water and fold the wheels up. Something to improve on might be the ability to at least drive up out of the water. Definitely a unique invention though!
@MartinzW
Жыл бұрын
Seeing as the back wheels fold up and need attachment, perhaps much smaller cart-like wheels can be built in the bottom of the frame (like a half a wheel out of frame) - ensuring that you can set it up on the land and then back it up in the water - once backed up, the front wheel can be set up and you can get in. On the other hand, the target market for these are travellers that don't mind stepping in water when necessary.

I thought it would use the front wheel as a rudder when in boat-mode. Also, would this be really acceptable as an e-bike in a lot of countries when you can't really pedal it easily?
This is great! Honestly been looking for something like this. Hoping future models might include a longer range on the water, say to perhaps make a trek across the Bering straight with a stop on one of the islands half way through. Or maybe make a little detour around the Darian gap. If it were pedal assisted on the water, I believe it would be quite reasonable.

I've been following the progress of this for ages. I do want something like it, but don't really need the boat part, which I think compromises it's potential somewhat. Pleased to see Jack could fit no worries, even the wrong way round.
The problem I have with it is the fact it’s individually designed for the purposes of the man who wanted it in the first place. It would be nice the be that high up for a while but I’d soon tire of being so exposed on a long journey. I’d want to be in the boat portion for the most part in British weather.
Ufff, that looks so cool

I would have been slightly more impressive if Jack knew how to open it or which way to get in. I guess the boat bit might be useful for river crossings (if there is a ramp), but it doesn't look like you'd want to get very far from shore on a windy day. Not quite sure how useful that is in practice. I suppose the idea is that you can park by a lake somewhere and then go pootling/fishing?
