Is this complicated? Why I did NOT do my own oil change on my Bronco Sport.

Тәжірибелік нұсқаулар және стиль

Time have changed. I don't think it is worth it doing your oil change anymore.

Oil filter is $7-$8 and the oil is around $30. Max is $40 for filter and oil

I just changed the oil on my Badlands. I removed the skid plate; it wasn't that bad, but it would have been nice if Ford had designed some small removable hatches to access the drain plug and filter. You can get synthetic blend Motorcraft oil and filter at Walmart for around $35. I took my time, and it took about 45 minutes. I don't trust quickie lubes with my vehicles.

Thanks. I wished Ford made it easy to access as well.

The cars will last a lot longer if you do the oil changes at 5000 miles. 10K changes just leads to a sludged up engine.

I wonder why manufacturers these days changed the oil change interval to 10K.

I have the Badlands as well. I changed my own oil for years, also worked in a Chevy dealer for a time. Since I live in an apartment I no longer change my own oil. One thing I like about taking it to the dealer or qualified mechanic is they aren’t just changing your oil. They’re taking note of other components and potential issues. Not all car owners know what to look for so I believe it’s a good idea to have a qualified shop do your oil at least every third change. I change mine every 5000 kms/3000 miles. Enjoy your matching sports!!

I have the badlands too. It is the first vehicle with a skid plate that I’ve had. The skid plate has a little bit of weight. I’ve done it twice on mine. It’s a extra step. I personally like doing mine and can see why most people wouldn’t.

It’s only a t30 “star” screwdriver head for those under carriage screws and the pushpins can be popped out with a flat head screwdriver, it only takes another 10 mins to remove and another for assembly. Don’t discourage saving yourself from an $80-$100 oil change cost if you have some extra time and can remove some screws.

@@TheManToys yeah it only took an extra 15 min to take out all of the screws for the cover and then 10 to put them back on later. Definitely jack the car up or put it on ramps, im thin and i really struggled getting under the car not to mention use wrenches and screwdrivers under there.

My wife put 30k miles on her big bend in the last year. I have changed her oil 4 times at around 6.5-7k miles. Going 10k is not a good idea.. Skid plate takes maybe 5 min off and 5 back on with impact driver. Hand thread the screws first. Mob1 20k full synthetic oil at Walmart $28. Fram xg 20k filter about $10. So $40 or a bit less. Savings of $40 using the best oil and knowing it is done right. X 4 saves 160. Well worth an hour of my time.

Make sure you check your oil level on the dipstick, both times I went the oil level was low 3/4 of a quart low , imagine the money there Saving if they do the low oil level to everyone ,jiffy lube also did it , they actually had me drive back in because they forgot to tighten the drain plug they told me

I would never take my vehicles to one of those Jiffy-Lube kind of places. You never know what kind and grade of oil they use. Plus the "technicians" are usually low grade individuals. Do it yourself if possible or take it to a trusted shop.

I have the Big Bend and it is cake.. Yea it's a pain to remove the 8 to 10 bolts holding the cover but it takes like 5 min to do and is light.. Just slides off. Also $65 for oil and filter? Ouch.. Where do you buy? It costs me like $25 to $30 at Walmart for Penzoil Plat for 5qt and $8 for Puralate One Boss filter. I find the auto shops oil is like double the cost and you don't need a K&N filter..there is better at cheaper if you watch other channels. I just spent $100 for oil and tire rotate at dealer.. But that's because it's winter here and to cold to do on my own.. It's the only time I go out and and someone else do it. Since the video have you done yourself yet?

I will say don't ever stop learning how to do these things on your own most people that have car knowledge should be able to even flush out their radiator now even the average mechanic won't resurface a engine on their own things that take out the engine have a mechanic do it but don't let these dealerships over charge yall

Yea the screws are annoying but could be worse. I have the Big Bend so I know it’s easy. The badlands you have I can’t speak for because I don’t know it’s it’s the same removal process as the big bend. Either way I had a dondge dart I would take in to get serviced. Seemed I was missing something every time I got the car back.

Dude, the dealership or especially a jiffy lube like place will strophe piss out of your fasteners holding on the lower oil guard at a minimum. Eventually you'll pay the price for letting anyone work on your car that does not give a damn. ALWAYS do it yourself!
