Tell me, do you ever use kits? If so what’s your favorite?

My LHBS sells a "kit" with grains from a local malthouse in southeastern PA called Deer Creek Malthouse. They use locally farmed grains as much as possible I believe, and have excellent products. The kit is Deer Creek Pale Ale. And a shout out to my LHBS, Keystone Homebrew Supply. And IMO, there is NO SUCH THING as "cheating" when you're brewing. I actually have a no boil Irish Stout on tap as we speak. Can of goo, some DME and some dexrose. And I consider even that "brewing" too. LOL

Ive just started brewing. My first beer was a extract kit. My second one was a version of my own based off other recipes for gluten free beer. I think kits are great for starting out or if you just want a beer that is going to taste exactly how you expect. For myself Ill be doing some of both. Kits and modified recipes.

@@AlbeeSoaring I brewed partial boil extract for several years. In fact, I needed some different beers on hand for a party recently, and I did one extract cream ale. It had been so long since I did an extract brew, I had to read the instructions. LOL But it came out great. Nothing wrong with extract at all.

Yes I do. I used BrewDemon's Hellfire Deep Red Ale 2 gallon kit and I was told that Guiness had nothing on me and the 2 gallons didn't make it through the night. It was fun and super easy to do.
The morebeer kits are great, however I frequently buy grain and hops in bulk and just follow the recipe on their site. Saves a couple bucks.
I consider myself a rookie brewer and I am still learning about the brewing process, my Anvil Foundry system, and ingredients. All I've done so far is kits and I love them. I do mill my own grain instead of pre-milled so that gives me a little more hands on feel. Got 3 more kits lined up and then I think it is time to start building a recipe. Definitely not cheating, just a fun part of the learning process. As with everything in life, you need some training wheels to get going before you take off solo. Great video and channel! You BrewTubers rock and are an invaluable resource for rookies like me.

Awesome! Completely agree with everything! I still use kits to help me start building recipes too! That way I can figure out what the grain and hop combinations taste like and tweak it as needed, cheers!
I've brewed plenty of kits early on, soulless hops, haze craze, dead ringer just to name a few. I still reference kit recipes from time to time to build my own recipes. Nice sweatshirt braj
Cheers to you too! One gallon extract kits got me into it. Super easy with very little equipment needed. A couple of 5 gallon kits left, then I think it will be off to full grain with whatever electric system I decide. Sourcing keg parts for my keezer too. So much fun to be had. Another great video.... thanks!

It’s a great hobby! And there’s definitely no limit to how deep into it you can get!!! Always room to learn, improve, and tinker!
I used kits to tweak the recipe to taste. It's a great way to start understanding grain and hops.
Another great video. Planning to go this weekend and get the stuff to make a bucket fermenter and make my first batch. I am a beer drinker but I think I am going to start with a cider for my wife. You and a few others here on the Brew Tube have inspired me to stop dreaming and start brewing.

Got a Irish Stout Kit for Christmas and thought the same thing, it's turned into a very good beer
Great video brother! Appreciate the sticker swap, and love the content you consistently push out. I started my home brew journey with extract kits, then moved to all-grain kits before finally developing my own recipes. I will say, with each recipe I develop, the majority of them are not "my own". I have several books I read and research ingredients/recipes, and peruse website kit recipes, such as MoreBeer or Northern Brewer, before finalizing any beer I brew right now. Keep up the great work my friend, cheers 🍻

This reminded me of my first extract brew I made. Got it as a gift from a friend while I was living in Barcelona. The kit came with pretty much everything except for the bottles, and proper instructions, a total disaster. Good thing I now brew all grain
Great video. I use a lot of kits so I can try different styles without having to mess with ingredients. It's just like cooking. On the second go round, I'll tweak it if needed to make my own.

Good stuff! I wish I had a garage
I bought a kit from MoreBeer recently. Love how conveniently everything comes packaged; takes a lot of the planning and thought out of it. Just curious what efficiency they use to figure out their expected OG/FG, because my numbers were way off. For that reason, I think I came out with a different end product than expected. Still good! Just different.
@ElementaryBrewingCo

That’s a great question! I’ll reach out and see why I find because I usually don’t get great efficiency with pre milled kits either! I suspect it’s the grain crush.
Did you do a wort chill before adding the yeast and just did not record it? Thank you for sharing!

I tend to get kits from the in laws every Christmas. The Haze Craze from Morebeer has been given to me frequently. But i also have a habit and look at kits recipe guide and change it up by using different hops that I might have on hand. Cheers Brian

Same here!!! It’s a great way to start building a recipe!
I was eyeing this kit because Celebration is my absolute favorite holiday IPA. So naturally, I’ve been trying to recreate this. I saw their recipe which seemed close to other clones and what I could find online. I wonder if you just bumped up the hops layer in the boil and dry hop would do it. I also noticed that SN does a 90 minute boil and I wonder if chinook goes on at 90 min. Might need to collab on this!
@ElementaryBrewingCo

Ya the recipe called for a 90 min boil and I got impatient 🤣 I also think if I didn’t use a hop spider that might help with hop utilization.
Really well done! I’m going to have to call my little bags of hops snack packs from now on:)
