Is This Boulder-Choked Mountain Creek Even Fishable?? (Tenkara Fly Fishing)

In this video I fish a new creek high up in the mountains, and it turns out to be, well... a bit different.

You just gave me the confidence to try a little micro creek near my home . Its a runoff from a pond and goes into the woods . Not sure the creek always has water but there are pools in the woods that do . Just need a short , cheap rod for bow and arrow casting . Tiny bluegills , chub and the like . Anyways , really enjoy the channel , everybody else is always fishing a perfect stream in a perfect meadow , no trees , no problems , beautiful , boring ! Never know where your gonna be fishing , but for sure it won't be boring 😎👍👍

Hey Tristan. I’m in the northeast and that is what most of my streams look like that I fish. But, I pretty much couldn’t fish them without a wading staff. Have you ever thought about using one? I know it’s something else to carry but they are such a huge help climbing up and down the banks and boulders and it just drags behind you when not in use. When I’m climbing boulders I use it constantly to probe the lower boulders in front of me to climb down them. Just a thought. My second comment is I do really well with flies that have what is called a hot head. A Bright orange bead head or bright orange thread head. I think you tie your own flies so someday build up a nice bright orange thread head and see what happens. Great video!!

Those are some of the best and most exciting streams to fish because most people would pass them by. The fish are usually quite eager to strike at almost anything.

Great video! I’m new to Tenkara but have been fly fishing, “western style”, for 50+ years. There are many small, boulder filled creeks in my area, Eastern Sierra, that I’m interested in exploring with my Dragontail Mizuchi. Looks like fun!

Beautiful spot. That would make my day. Solitude and nature. Thanks for posting. Your videos prompted me to purchase a Tenkara rod…I think the same one that you fished with in this video. Yet to try it out but hope to do so on a trip to South Dakota in June.

That creek looks a lot like some of the White Mountain streams I've fished, but there is a little more tannin in your creek. White Mountain streams often look like tapwater. And the fish are comparable sizes.

It amazes me how you don't need a heavily weighted fly, like a bead head nymph to pull fish out, whereas so many people thinking Euro nymphing is the key to pulling fish but you always are pulling good numbers of fish.

@@TenkaraAddict I certainly fish weighted flies but your method of not fishing weighted flies seems to fall in line more with like the essence of fly fishing.

I mean, weighted flies are meant for deep water (like 4+ feet). You don’t really need weight when you’re fishing water that’s on average 2-3 feet deep, especially if the water doesn’t have tons of conflicting or fast current.

Have you ever fished clear creek in lowman, Idaho? It’s off bear valley road? Me and buddy found a deep hole and were catching 9inch rainbows every cast. We drove for about 20-30 mins down the road until we came into a burnt forest with flowers everywhere. Super pretty but the creek access is a little rough

Old time classic fly fisher, got a new tenkara set last month. Looking forward to trying it out come spring. My favorite, lazy way to fish is dry fly or dry dropper in my float tube on Sierra lakes. Never been much of a river rat, but maybe tenkara will help. In my tube, what kind/size line to use? Can I do dry dropper rig? I have a Dragontail Shadowfire 365. Thanks - very much enjoy your videos.
