Have you checked the Honor Magic 5 Pro? 512g 12g Best top 3 cameras as per DXO mark Best battery life Best top 3 screens (LTPO too, something Sony hasn't heard of). Now in the UK for 536£ less than Xperia. So????? Stop being a fan boy

Excellent Q/A, dude!The only issues that can stop my from buying this superb device is the speed of updates and improvements and the price it should have been at least 100 euros less.For me this is the best Sony devices ever. In my opinion it seems to be the best camera and music experience that you can have on a smartphone.With a little bit of know-how Sony can rise up with this device and maybe in 2 or 3 years could be there with Samsung and maybe Pixel as the best android brands.

It was @JuanBagnell and he was shooting it in 4k 30 fps which can be done continuously in all 3 sensors. It was tested in 1MKiv.

Two questions regarding the camera apps. Has PhotoPro app been upgraded to allow shutter release times longer than 30 seconds? A manually designated time period would be ideal. Also, I realize there are stand-alone apps available for time lapse shots (individual) and compiled videos, but it would be a nice addition to the Sony apps.

Shutter speed is as it was,from what Timelapse app that I have used none is good for astrophotography 😢 I had pixel7 pro that was getting amazing 1-2 seconds timelapse

Specifically compared the the Xiaomi 13 Ultra and 13 Pro - twitter.com/Basil_Knows/status/1661794058572791810?s=20 - there's less shadow detail to play with, but that's about as much testing as I've done with RAWs thus far. The ones I've linked to were taken with automatic settings. Hope that helps!

Can you play music files directly from the micro sd card, or do they have to be loaded onto the internal storage? If you can examine footage/ pics from the micro sd, you should be sble to play an mp3/mp4 library off a micro sd card to conserve internal storage. If its not possible, they need to make that happen.

Thanks for answering that; I have a 1 IV and the display is HORRIBLE in bright sunlight (I live in San Diego, so a bright/good display is a requirement). I'm actually sorry I bought the 1 IV.

same here. the phone is a mess. are you also having issues with the pocket mode? my phone's screen is constantly activating while in my pocket.... super annoying. disabling the double touch to wake would be a solution but I use the feature all the time.

Xperia 1 V remains a top notch phone despite the price and availability

in the previous versions the proximity sensor didn't work well on Xperia and when you talked with the phone to your ear the screen turned on. Did they fix it?

👏👏 Thank you for the lowdown 👍Removal of the notification LED is stupid its just a bad move 🤷 Taking a leaf from the Galaxy S series play book, I would love to see an S type pen built into the Sony's as I feel that for a specialist media device would be so powerful as an editing tool. This is a huge trick they are missing out on in making this a complete device and potentially suring up a huge take up in the market if they did this 🤔😐

My friend, Sony is also famous with technology. Xperia Z ultra can used any normal pencil or pen to scroll, write or sketch on the display. But this feature not popular, so Sony stopped it.

Regarding DAC and it may be unfair, comparable to an LG Quad DAC? There's many LG audiophiles who will jump on one of these if it's good.

I have an LG V20, V40, and V60. Currently testing the Xperia 1 V. LG sounds cleaner, more spacious, and can still definitely get louder as well as drive higher impedance systems. As far as I know, Sony doesn't actually have a dedicated quad dac like LG. There are only a handful of phones that I know of that actually still do ex. Asus ROG phone and Redmagic 9 Pro. But those have their own pros and cons to consider.

Why when Xperia 1 V has 48 MP cam, does pictures with 4000x3000, not 8000x6000? My Old LG Velvet has 48MP and does 8000x6000, and when I crop(zoom) to my PC with Picasa images seems a bit more clear. Do I miss something?

what about the Sims? i assume it has 2, i also assume it has ESIMS, can 2 esims work at the same time?

With that headphone jack and optical zoom ..he killed everyone Thats why apple delayed their launch of iphone 15 bcoz of this ...I mean sony are the most unique phone from its quality build, tall and sexy and unique and it was soo good that they add more aspect for pro. Videographer and photographer and they make it friendly for beginners who dont want creativity and I think they are the cleanest in lowlight coz of their stacked sensor debut which can nearly match their Fullframe cameras ....I mean Sony just listen to all the feedback and merge it in 3000$ phone supposed to be but they just priced over 1400$...Who would not want this knowing that they have so much to offer in the future syncing their phone to their Pro camera, TV and sound system

Your positivism is quite infectious bro, but could you reassure me please that this Sony device does not overheat like so many Sony devices of old (my poor old college lecturer sold his chronically overheating Sony Alpha 6300 camera and decided to invest in a shiny new expensive ZV-E1. Which soon began overheating on him. He took the camera back, and has just given me a semi lecture on why never to get caught up in the 'excitement wave' of any new Sony device and please please put my hard earned money elsewhere and be warned blah blah rant rant. Would this device be okay to record at 4K 120 fps (in a third party app) for example in your opinion?.

​@@neilmcguinness4422 the overheating issue on all sony device are always happen, just record 1 minute, and its gonna tell you to shutdown all features and started lagging, after it you might be forced to close the pro apps, sony are well know behind the competition in temparature maintenance, they don't knoq how to make cooling system, don't buy them, they are only good on papers.

Does the display still have a greenish tint when going to super low brightnesses? This was an issue on my Mark IV so hoping they finally fixed it here (or maybe my unit was just bad?). It was very similar to the older OLED displays from years back where they'd get lower in contrast and kinda go green/dark grey when you set brightness near the minimum.

This sounds like defective firmware stuff, since they use Samsung panels. I can confirm this, since it's happening on my 1 Mark III as well. A good solution would be flashing a custom ROM since most of them have the possibility for deep display adjustment, but only 1 II, 1 III and now 1 V have it (i'm sorry, the Mark IV isn't very popular in this regard).

How was the signal quality between the 2? My 1 m4 loses quality more than my Samsung did

Do they do timely updates yet?

Are the international version and us version of sony the same ?

Does this phone work in India especially network, gpay?? Bcoz Sony phones are not available in Indian market

1- Continous zoom is there in VideoPro too, at least in Xoeria 1 IV. 2- You showed by yourself that there is no stabilization in WDR (stabilization writing greyed out) while saying the contrary...

3 cams can do 4K HDR 120fps video recordings. It is basically a filmmaker device.

Thanks for this! Continuous zoom definitely doesn't work on Video Pro on my unit. Stabilization writing is greyed out, but the image is still stabilized when recording video - so there is definitely stabilization in effect. Perhaps I misunderstood the question - but thanks for feeding back your experience with the 1 IV and commenting. Basil

A lots of people experienced connectivity issues with previous versions Lagging 5g connection, wifi speed,... Would really appreciate if you could provide honest review on this.

I second this! My us model IV has such a hard time with talking on the phone and using data at the same time. It isn't until I end a phone call, when the phone finally loads up web pages and apps.

I think day to day the S23 ultra destroys the Xperia 1 V. In saying that I would only prefer the Xperia due to lack of bloatware. Also another issue is global availability which affects carrier support

You can use continous zoom in video pro however not at 60fps but with 30fps and below their is continuous or as sony calls it seamless zoom. I believe Juan should be the go to guy on this phone cause he seems to be more knowledgeable than most you reviewers on this phone.

Why is it on so many flagship phones that so many really useful video features are not available at 4K 60fps?.

It's ironic Sony is proud of their eco friendly packaging approach but then only offer 2 years of updates to the actual phone, very economical...

Yep, I experienced throttling when the phone was in the sun for a long time and I didn't realise, and when the battery was low. But this didn't happen with normal use of battery was above 15%

Great video however it was frustrating watching you mispronounce the Pro-I. You clearly know that Sony phones use roman numerals (ie Xperia 1 IV = Xperia 1 mk4, Xperia 1 V = Xperia 1 mk5) so why would the Xperia Pro-I = Xperia pro eye instead of Xperia Pro mk1

The reason I banned Samsung is the sound have no base tone, unlike XPERIA 1V get much stronger and balance sound. Samsung screen also toned over vivid, faken all scene I see especially the horrible yellowish skin, I have no idea how the freak it's was the world best smartphone

@@manireik S23 has a dac...like all smartphones...it even goes higher than Sony 24/192. S23 screen is larger and will be more suitable to watch 16:9 aspects ratio movies and will be good for 21:9 movies too

Cinema Pro has the Venice profile which is super low-contrast. Have you used it before on other Xperias? It was introduced on the original Xperia 1.

Sony has poor optimization and thermal issues, as much as their hardware credentials are good, don't be duped if someone says it is better than S23U

Sony fans aren't going to like the facts that I'm about to drop but the DAC in Sony phones are unimportant because it has a headphone jack which Android gimps at 24 bit 48khz audio. You will never be able to drive your wired headphones like you can through a USB-C port with a USB DAC or even a headphone dongle. USB Audio Pro for example while using the internal DAC maxes out at 24 bit 48khz native audio and can output 24bit 192 hz using an external DAC or even a dongle. This also applies for Apple Music, Tidal and Qobuz. You're basically paying for a phone that can't output audio at it's maximum potential because of the limitations of the OS (IOS also has this issue). If you care about great sounding audio go ahead and use your wired headphones, just know that the headphone jack is inferior to an external DAC and sometimes even a headphone dongle for Hi Res FLAC

For sure, but surely the best DAC is the one you've got with you (paraphrasing camera logic) - and if you're not strapping a Mojo 2 to your phone, the Xperia gives you a convenient way to get better-than-bluetooth audio. The audio output through headphone jack does not suffer from the OS limitation and resampling which is 16 bit 48khz on android, only the USB-C port and the Wi-Fi audio through android auto wireless does. The audio jack is not a digital output, so no resampling is done.

Sony devices don't seem to sell well year on year. It is overheating issues that would really worry me. A college lecturer of mine had two overheating Sony cameras and every time Sony brought out a new phone he would go out of his way to warn us against buying the device. He said he would offer a college fire extinguisher to anyone who did however. I am not sure if he was joking or not here.
