Should you really spend $200-$300 or more dollars on a toothbrush?
My answer is YES, especially if it's the Oral-B iO Series 9. You get what you pay for!
The iO has an extremely quiet motor, a gentle cleaning effect, and top-of-the-line plastic components that will last you years and years.
The battery lasts 14 days so you can jump from bathroom to bathroom while you're traveling and not worry about running out of charge.
Oral-B is a world-renowned company, the only company I trust with my dental care.
If you want the best of the best, I highly recommend you splurge on the Oral-B iO Series 10 or 9.
You will enjoy a state-of-the-art electric toothbrush that comes with a luxurious travel case, multiple brush heads, and the quietest motor ever!

*USB port omission from case* The omission of the USB port is really inconsequential for most people. Not many people would think to charge their iPhone from their toothbrush case. Moreover, the USB-A port has become obsolete with the current and far more capable USB-C standard. A sensible traveller would be wise to take a 5 port USB charger when away from home.

I would say only get it if 1. You can afford it 2. If you absolutely need the best of the best If you are unsure go with maybe an io series 7, I’ve seen those for $150 on Amazon. You are paying basically half the price for a toothbrush that is still miles ahead of 99% of the brushes out there.

True, you make a good point. Unlike the series 9, The iO series 7 doesn’t have the super sensitive setting, doesn’t come with as many replacement heads and you can’t charge in the case. Anything is better than a manual toothbrush in my opinion so buy what works best for your budget 🤙🏽

I love my new IO 9. I only wish it were more accessible for people with disabilities like mine. I have next to no vision left, therefore I can’t really see the display screen. Audible cues as you scroll through the menu would be very helpful.

This audible cue idea would be a game-changer for some people. I'm sure adding a speaker to the toothbrush would make manufacturing the toothbrush much more expensive but it's worth mentioning to Oral-B because they should really consider all the needs of their loyal customers. Happy you invested in the toothbrush. Just know that it's cleaning your teeth more effectively than any other toothbrush so that should give you encouragement. Take care!

Hi there! You are so beautiful! I love that you take the time to inform so many about taking care of our teeth! Its great! Ive learned alot from you. I was interested if you had any good mouthwash recommendations that you enjoy (if you use one i know its personal preference) and possibly alcohol free. Would you recomened "natrual" moutwashes maybe like the Jason brand. I know all mouthwashes provide different things whether cavity protection or maybe just freshen your breath.

  • @dentalhigenius5997

    @dentalhigenius5997

Thank you so much for taking time to leave the kind feedback :) Using mouthwash is def part of my routine, especially first thing in the morning to freshen the morning breath. I encourage people to choose a mouthwash that caters to their individual dental needs. A common misconception is that when you rinse for 30 seconds with a mouthwash that has fluoride in it, that it's going to clean the plaque off your teeth and prevent cavities. I wish mouthwash rinsed the teeth free of bacteria, but, it really requires meticulous brushing and flossing, daily. Therabreath and Jason's are two great companies that offer a minty mouthwash without the harsh chemicals like alcohol, saccharin, sodium lauryl sulfate and benzalkonium chloride (an allergen). I tried Tom's of Maine's all natural mouthwash and didn't like the after-taste, so I don't recommend that one, but that's just personal preference. For anyone battling gingivitis or periodontitis (gum disease), I recommend PerioBrite mouth rinse by "Nature's Answer". It tastes really good and has bacteria fighting herbs and plants without toxic chemicals and contains a nutrient called Coenzyme Q10 which is powerhouse in healing gum infections and detoxifying the body. I hope this helps and best wishes on your dental journey Jocelyn

Thank you so much for the information!! This is super helpful. Lastly I did want to ask about toothpaste that you would recommend? As well as what your thoughts were on fluoride free toothpaste and maybe alternating and using both? Also is therabreath only for catering to keeping your mouth fresh? Where does it provide other benefits like a cavity rinse mouthwash? I apologize for the many questions! 😂💞

@@jocelynmontes6476 Aloha and thanks for your questions, they’re all very good!
Fluoride free toothpaste is a great option for people who have dense, mineralized tooth structure and don’t get frequent cavities.
I’d recommend trying a couple of non-fluoride containing toothpastes to see if you like them, that is, if you aren't getting a lot of cavities.
There’s the Hello brand toothpastes, Schmidt’s brand, Tom’s of Maine, as well as Dr. Bronner’s fluoride free toothpastes!
I use Sensodyne Pronamel toothpaste because my teeth are sensitive, but again, it’s personal preference. Pronamel isn’t all natural and probably has more chemicals than the above companies I mentioned.

Fluoride is one of the only elements found on our planet that has the power to remineralize tooth structure, so I'm an advocate for using a prescription fluoride toothpaste like Prevident 5000 if people are struggling with frequent cavities and aren’t able to eat a healthy, balanced, raw diet. This is something you can ask your Dentist to prescribe for you. Unless you are using a prescription fluoride toothpaste, the percentage of fluoride in our over the counter toothpastes like Colgate and Crest don’t have enough fluoride to make a difference in preventing cavities.
The main thing to think about when preventing cavities is limiting the amount of high sugar and dense processed foods we are eating (pizza, pasta, doughnuts, candy) and avoiding too many acidic drinks like Red Bull and coffee.
I’d rather my patients change their diet and brushing/flossing habits than resort to a prescription fluoride toothpaste.

Therabreath is beneficial because it has natural ingredients that are proven to help balance out the good and bad bacteria colonies in our mouthes that cause cavities, gum infections, and bad breath.
Therabreath has tea tree oil, aloe vera, green tea extract and a couple other all natural ingredients that combat bacteria.
The name “Therabreath” is kinda corny and might make people feel weird keeping it on their counter but it’s not just for people with bad breath, it has all natural ingredients in comparison to Listerine Zero and Act brand rinses which have more chemicals.

I have a patient that recently started using Therabreath and it changed his life because he struggled with Halitosis and nothing else was working!
Totally up to you though what you want to try!

As long as you’re spitting out all of the above mentioned products and consciously try not to swallow any of it, you’ve got a lot of options!
 Have a great day!

Does the oral-b io vibrate as strong as the sonicare? I've recently purchased a sonicare from Costco, and find it very uncomfortable from the vibrations if the back of the toothbrush (the hard plastic portion of the toothbrush) accidentally touches one of my teeth. This doesn't happen with the classic oral-b brush.

  • @dentalhigenius5997

    @dentalhigenius5997

I agree with you. I was given a free Sonicare electric toothbrush during dental hygiene school and the vibration was too powerful on my gums. I didn’t like it and I felt like it was receding my gum line. I switched to the Oral-B i0 Series 9 and love how quiet and gentle it is on my teeth and gums. I use the iO series 9 on the super sensitive setting which is quiet and gentle and has slowed the recession process tremendously. Have a good day!

Hi! Thanks for this helpful review. I’m still trying to decide whether to get the iO 9, one of the genius models or maybe even go with the burst. I’m definitely leaning more towards Oral B but I just can’t decide if the iO 9 is worth shelling out $300. That’s very expensive for a toothbrush, but I’m trying to step up my oral hygiene game (I’ve always used manual brushes) and I feel if it’s truly worth the price my teeth are worth the investment for sure! 1. Would you say io 9 is worth the money? 2. Is genius equally as good? 3. Is there anything you know now that you wish you would’ve known beforehand before purchasing the iO 9? (I know it was a gift but you know what I mean lol). Sorry so many questions, but ALLLLL the options are overwhelming when you don’t know what to get. Thanks in advance for your time if you can answer.

I believe the iO series 9 is worth every penny. It’s soooo smooth and quiet and makes the brushing experience so enjoyable and will end up saving you so much money bc it will combat and remove all the bacteria that causes expensive dental issues. I’m happy you left a comment and proud of you for taking the best care of your teeth as possible 🙌 I have the Genius 9600 and loved it but the motor on the iO 9 is much smoother and much more quiet

I got the io series 6 for £82 on eBay - $112.83 approx. Haven't used it just yet it arrived today, but you get the newer motor and micro-vibrations of the io line but without the gimmicky extra features like extra modes (which are generally accepted not to add any extra benefit, which is reflected by how Oral-B went from so many variations of brush heads to only two, standard and sensitive) and magnetic charging. It still comes with a case for travel which is perfect, and I had the charging travel case for the Genius X but I never charged my toothbrush in that so another gimmick in my opinion. Obviously Oral-B wants you to shell out extra dollars for the top of the line model, but I don't see any real practical benefit over the recently released series 6. Even the 3-D teeth tracking which is the main distinguishing feature doesn't make it more useful imo. The app largely has the same functionality across the different models, and most people won't be bothered to use the app consistently anyway 🤷‍♂

From personal experience, I can tell you that my gums don’t recede as much as they used to since I switched from using a Sonicare to an Oral-b Genius. Worth the investment I think especially if you want healthy gums and minimal plaque stains on your teeth after you get your brackets off! Take care ☺️

I bought one a couple days ago. My only problem is it seems impossible to keep the pressure sensor light green.. seems way too much pressure and force to use. Anyone else has this problem?

The pressure sensor is pretty responsive. As you use it you will learn muscle memory to keep it green. Mine goes from blue to green to occasionally red if i’m in a rush to get out the door 🤣

I know! The price is intimidating, but for me, the potential cost of surprise dental work is more intimidating. Teeth and gums are a body part that can have infection and lurking problems without a single symptom. Mahalo for supporting the channel

@dentalhigenius5997 That doesn't make sense. Why boil every few months if you're supposed to change your toothbrush head every few months?
