    I test drove both and let be say this, Camry is not Lexus. ES300H felt a lot better I terms of luxury, seat comfort, quietness, and overall level of refinement. In fact, the first thing I noticed was hard were the seats in the Camry. Honestly, for $42K I’d get a slightly used Lexus ES300h

    I test drove the 25 camry THEN the 24 ESh. Just bought the ESh. I couldn't fit in the back of the Camry and I thought the build quality felt cheap. I like the backseats fold down but I don't use my sedan as a truck. Sound system was subpar. Interior plastic was loose like it was a power wheels. Ride was zippy but bumpy. My ESh just feels smooth, and I LOVE driving it. The 25 Camry is a Jack of all trades, master of none -- a good car for MOST, perhaps the best value pick of all the sedans, but it isn't a luxury car. Neither is the accord for that matter.

    I love both the Camry and ES, but there are differences in the build quality, refinement, and sound insulation within the cabin. However, from the consensus I've heard, Toyota did a solid job with the noise reduction (from both wind and road), especially in the XSE trim. No doubt this generation of Camry will lure a lot of people from the economical and luxury sedan market (maybe even some potential SUV buyers as well, given the amount of room and trunk space it has), I'm quite impressed with it (though I'm sad about the V6 and naturally aspirated engines being precluded from future lineups). I have no doubts that this platform will be very reliable, Toyota has perfected the hybrid platform. My expectations for this generation honestly weren't that high, but Toyota really outdid themselves with the amount of effort they put into it.

    It's nice that Toyota is sharing so much Lexus refinement with the Camry. That will only help keep it head and shoulders above the competition. But a Lexus person is never going to be happy with a Camry. It's just not even in the same league. I "personally" have no need to be in that league and would much prefer the Camry. Just the fact that the rear seat doesn't fold down in the ES prevents me from even being remotely interested in one. A Lexus person would just bring the GX 460 if they need the rear seat to fold down. I don't have options like that at my fingertips. In fact, if Toyota would introduce the Camry in a proper wagon form like the ones they used to sell in the 80's & 90's, I would MUCH prefer the Camry over the Lexus ESh. Especially if they made it available in the base LE trim and it could be purchased for say $3k more than the base sedan. I'd be all over it. But as they say, "different strokes for different folks."

Yes, they will self-destruct on their own. At least, that is what I've heard on YOU-tube videos and one local Toyota dealership from a friend that is a Toyota sales-person. Yes, I know there are plenty S.E. models with solid metal roofs, but I want an XSE with a solid roof. Thanks. The standard hybrid powertrain is a welcome addition to the Camry - the base 2.5L gas just feels a little rough and Toyota does hybrids so well it makes no sense not to go with the hybrid. Odd thing is that the owners manual says (p114) that you can see the energy Flow monitor on the multimedia screen not only on the digital cluster gauges. I think they didn't include at the very last minute. Hopefully, Toyota will update this.

    I rode for 40 minutes in a brand new Grand Highlander yesterday on mostly freeway and although it was a nice ride with a nice captain seat and leg room the NVH and bounciness of the suspension was off putting. I normally drive a 2019 Altima and people forget what makes Sedans good, it is their ride quality. They just float over road imperfections where something like an SUV is going to be taught and bouncy comparably.

    The German luxury vehicles are dead to me. Their reign is over. The Korean and Japanese vehicles are way more desirable… then again, it could be that I’m nearly 40 and sensible now😅

  • @spliffbooth

    @spliffbooth

    2 күн бұрын

    Hunter, please set the crack pipe down. Korean "luxury" vehicles, despite offering an appealing feature-to-price ratio on dealer lots, see their values drop more precipitously than most other cars on the market (including much-maligned EVs) due to less reliability and poor dealership service experiences. Meanwhile Japanese vehicles incur dealership-level price gouging, as well cost-cutting in material quality and design. And meanwhile yet, every single other automaker (including the Germans) have been attempting to emulate Japanese quality control methodologies, and have significantly improved both quality and reliability over the past several decades. In the 90's and early 2000's, I would have agreed with your statement about Japanese > German. But in 2024, the quality gap is much more narrow, the value-add all but erased, and the German cars still provide a more engaging, less appliance-like driving experience.

    So I bought this 2025 Camry on July 2nd. I have opened the panoramic roof 4x and today I decided to look into the mechanics of the roof when opened, while I was detailing the car after it rained. I was shocked to find that the fabric which is exposed because it’s the headliner that comes up and wraps below the sunshade- anyways the fabric is drastically torn and ripped and coming apart - so I took photos and I’m taking the Camry to service department tomorrow. I can’t imagine them repairing the torn areas on both front corners so I guess I’ll be getting a new headliner. Hard to imagine it not happening again without a fix.

It is possible that one doesn't have the refinement of a new or slightly used ES, BUT I'm guessing the delta of smoothness doesn't overcome the gas mileage either if you're buying a commuter/daily driver.
