Totally agree regarding simplicity, especially with a truck. The 3.8 liter naturally aspirated engine was a great choice (vs. a small displacement 4-turbo engine which would wear out faster). I am also glad Nissan still uses analog gauges and a traditional shifter lever (vs. digital gauges and a push button or rotary dial shifter).

@@hothmobile100 the manual transmission isn't exactly "ahead." More manufacturers are eliminating them because they are a niche item today. In most cases (including Tacoma) they account for less than 5% of sales. Toyota also makes its name in reliability. A lot of that comes from being behind, not "light-years ahead." Examples: the 2020 Tacoma was the first Tacoma to offer power adjusting seats or Android Auto/Apple Car Play. The 2021 Tacoma base model still doesn't have intermittent windshield wipers standard.

The “settlement” was criminal. Renault destroyed that reliable Japanese aspect of Nissan. I have a 4runner now and will never buy anything other than Toyota. That’s if I ever need to buy another truck. The 4runners are bulletproof. Yeah but you’re talking about the 1st and 2nd gen Tacoma’s. I just traded mine for the new pro4x. The resale was great and the drivetrain would have gone forever, but dam that truck would have beat me to death forever too. This truck is far better than the 3rd gen tacos and I know it’ll be more reliable than the 3rd and 4th gen at a better price.

I’m a musician and I’m always checking KZread and Instagram. I’d be plugging my phone in a dozen times a day and having to deal with the cord as well. Also no lumbar bubble for the driver and manual passenger seat adjustments kind of cheapen the truck, especially the top model. I still might consider it though???

I'm sure prop rods can fail but it's yet to happen to me. As far as the Pro-4X goes, it looks really nice. I'm a big fan of Tacoma but I definitely see this as a potential contender. I enjoy a bed for bikes and love the trunk in the Ridgeline but never go off-road so the Ridgeline made more sense for my needs. The ridgeline is a unibody truck with independent suspension at all 4 wheels. It’s a car with a bed. That’s why it drives so well on the highway. Nissan and Toyota are body on frame with solid rear. They will never drive as well on the highway. But they can go Offroad and tow.

The towing I can get behind more than anything and respect the longevity of the tacoma/4runner and the frontier (i own one).
