Is The MK5 Golf GTI The BEST Car For UNDER £5k?
Автокөліктер мен көлік құралдары
Having covered around 1,000 miles in my new (to me) MK5 Golf GTI, I thought I would pose the question: 'Is the MK5 Golf GTI the ultimate car for under £5,000?' .......Is it? It's sure up there!

Still got my mk5 GTI in manual and love it. A good daily.
Had one of these for 6 years (got rid of it last year for an R). Barely ever put a foot wrong and was great fun to drive every day. Never got bored of it
I still have my MK 5 GTi and I'll never sell it! 14 years old, no squeaks, no rattles! I can recommend doing a carbon clean on the car. It improves performance and fuel efficiency!

With climate control you set the temp you want (normally 22 is enough) and the car heats up to that level using as hot air as possible - you don’t need to switch it to ‘high’ and then turn it down. Just leave it at 22, and it will heat cabin as quickly as possible up to that point
Very solid car. Been watching alot of your videos. Excellent commentary and very well edited. You are going to be huge one day 🙏🏻
I have owned one for about 2 months , same but 4 door, great car love it, l had the mk4 golf gti before for 12 years.
Got a 5 door in reflex silver, leather interior with heated seats and ill be honest, ive had the car for 3 years now and still very happy with it... reliable, good looking with good performance if you wanna put your foot down. What more do you need.
If you are planning on keeping it long term I’d recommended looking at getting the fuel pump cam follower done also.

Clio 197 for me. Awesome little car and good on the track too.
I'm just about to buy one so I'm really liking your videos.
Great platform is the MK5 and a timeless design really. I’ve had my MK5 R32 for close to 10 years now and it still turns heads.
Had a mk5 Gti for nearly 3 years 2015 onwards loved it only sold as I needed a bigger car family commitments. Got the opportunity to get another one last august test drove one but it wasn’t as good as I’d remembered probably down to nostalgia as I’d wanted one for years prior. Ended up getting a BMW 330D e90 which in my opinion is probably the best sub 5K car you can get. Ideal daily driver fairly quick and economical.
Almost at 60k 🔥🔥👏🏾

You can pick up some pretty good cars around that kind of money. I’ve just bought a 125i for my misses for similar money and it’s really very nice. Full leather, heated seats, Bluetooth and a lovely, lovely inline six. Fast Renault’s would be on the list too.
Same as me mate a few years back. Love mine :)

I don’t know, mk5 gti is a very good car, but a solid E92 330d is a decent option, especially if you can find an LCI car. Properly quick when mapped aswell
an octavia vrs mk2 is basically the same car with a different body and I paid 6k for mine about 3 years ago so also alot of car for the money... Especially boot space!
Owned a mk5 gti for 2.5 years now and in love, wish I had got the manual now although at the time I really wanted to experience DSG. Great spec for a car of its age and performance too especially with a stage 1 map. Cannot beat the steering feel. Having driven modem cars even a 6 gti has nothing on it when it comes to feedback and feeling. Legendary car. And values are on the up now

Stock turbo you can make up to around 280bhp. You’ll need an intake, inter cooler and a high flow cat/decat exhaust too.
I got a 2007 mercedes c280. 3 litre v6 petrol. 80k on the clock. Paid 5k for it.
I think the only really comparable cars would be focus st, civic ep3, clio 182, in my eyes hot hatches then really only came down to those😂
No doubt the Golf GTI is a great all-rounder and the Mk5 was on my shortlist of cars to buy last year, but I went with a Mk2 SEAT Leon Cupra as it was more interesting, rarer, and also more powerful 😈
Bmw 3 series 325i 90-100k miles costs around 4k-5k beast of a car if you want something rwd and quick for the price
I bought a Cupra 240 st2 with supporting mods(329hp then) 2010 model 83k for 5000 on the nose! Stacks of history. Cupra 240 better value/ more modern.

Great video as always buddy! GTi’s are so fun to drive but also very sensible too. Good balance between a sports car and a practical hatchback and are very highly tunable. Lad who I know has a Stage 2 Remap and a sports catback exhaust is running 300bhp. Any more and you’ll need to forge but nonetheless you can safley increase the power x1.5!!!! Love the video man, hope you’re okay and staying safe man

Replace the diverter valve, as it’s bound to be split, upgrade the High pressure fuel pump/cam bucket, panel air filter, stick a miltek cat back non res system on it, Amd map it, cost about 1200 It will be between 250 and 270 bhp and it’s perfect power for this car Mine was awesome with the above mods
-Note: Most examples of the MK5 Golf gti will most likely have issues as these cars are just about at the ripe age of 15. I have had the car since new so I should know. -Common things to look out for that probably need replacing if they have not already been replaced are in order of likelihood: Battery, Timing Belt, Spark Plugs, Worn out cloth seats, broken vent clips, worn out or scratched gear stick / VW steering wheel emblem, clutch. -Also other things can go include the pcv, alternator, lpfp / fuel pump related items, various lines. -When test driving a used MK5 Golf gti, things to look out for that indicate problems are: a rev counter that does not stay still at idle, lack of boost when flooring the car to get onto a motorway, rough start especially while cold, difficulty changing gears, speakers that don't work etc.
