Is The Mitsubishi Outlander A Pile Of Sh*t?

Автокөліктер мен көлік құралдары

The Mitsubishi Outlander is an entirely new vehicle for 2022. Is the idea that Mitsubishi only creates terrible vehicles a misconception?

When I try to compare it with other brands like Rav4 or CRV, it’s cheaply made for its price tag. I tried closing doors from different generations of Outlanders and they all feel hollow, nothing from them have a nice satisfying thump

@@Dad_Life13 Besides all Mitsubishi we also own a 2006 Tacoma and a 2021 Toyota Rav4 because we also love Toyota but if we compared the Rav4 with the 2022 Mitsubishi Outlander the Outlander is just better equipped, better looking and better warranty not to mention is slightly bigger so in our experience Mitsubishi Outlander take the first place. 🥇

I have a 2019 Outlander. It’s the best bang for the buck. My daughter bought the CRV ( very nice suv - reliable good on gas, lasts forever ) but she paid about 8k more than I did for the same features and there is no third row seat option with the CRV. Love the Honda but when the grandkids are up it’s nice to have the third row. I’ve had absolutely zero problems with the Outlander. I only have 27k miles on it but there is no indication that a problem will develop. Might trade it in for the 2022 ( love the new look) but haven’t decided yet. Not sure Mitsubishi will deal on the new changed Outlander.

Mitsubishi is an excellent example of the power of marketing ( or lack thereof ). 20 years ago Mitsu had a great well-earned reputation, not quite Toyota or Honda level reliability, but above virtually every other Japanese brand and two planets apart from any American car. Then the parent company spun them off and, now on their own, they didn't have the financial resources to keep up with Toyota and Honda. So, they just soldiered on for 20 years selling about 125K/year of cheap ( but bulletproof) Japanese built cars and SUVs to people who could not afford much better. However that gave them a bad reputation, erasing the good one. Now, they build one decent SUV and a whole generation is like "whoa, Mitsu builds good cars???" Yet, that same generation of people has no idea that Hyundai and Kia used license-built Mitsubishi engines almost the entire time they have been sold in the US. Only around 2015 was Hyundai / Kia able to use engines they themselves designed.

the recall scandal, Asian financial crash, epa violation scandal, did not help them. I think they tried to get to big to fast and could not compete with Toyota/Honda. Also the reg maintenance tended to be expensive/ parts expensive idk if it was economy of scale issue. but having a 1200-2k timing job every 5 years probably got old fast. I hope they are able to recover in NA and make parts for their current and older vehicles.

Not happy with the title of the video. Please change. It takes years and effort to build a good car and giving such a title to review a car do not deserve it. I recently bought the vehicle, but haven't got the delivery yet. For me, I see this car as value for the money, it gives you all things a luxury car can give you at a high price. Other than 3rd-row seating, which is only useful for kids, that's the only disadvantage I find. and yes, could be a little bit bumpy on some Australian rough roads due to 20'' wheels. (Not sure, but mentioned by other reviewers) A lot of reviewers claim, it is not performing well when you accelerate. C'mon reviewers this is not a performance vehicle, not meant to be for that. It is a family car, designed for city and Urban drive.

I hope Mitsu recovers to what they were in the 90's. my family had a incredibly reliable 90 Eclipse. Those 4G63's where great engines. It was originally my sisters and when she moved she left it behind. It sat for 2 years never being moved. I changed the oil, battery, kept some fuel stabilizer in it. Started it up on my first try and sold it to an acquaintance of mine. Then he promptly smashed it over a curb and through a fence a month later.

I just bought the new Mitsubishi Outlander and I love it. It’s a beautiful car. The downside is that it has two recalls you have to remedy for your safety. A computer malfunction that can be set at the dealership, and a flapping hood malfunction that is extremely dangerous at highway speeds that can be ordered and installed at the dealership upon request. They have to add a piece of rubber under the hood to prevent air from making the hood move while going highway speeds. Don’t go over the 24,000 miles if you want Mitsubishi to take responsibility for all the recalls and possible car replacement. Other than that it’s a great car and feels luxurious! Everyone is in awe of my new car and all the features!

GO MITSUBISHI!!! Hey Zane, Thanks for a very fair and insightful review. All my past and current Mitsubishis and Nissans have been awesome, fun and extremely reliable! I'm elated at the corporate alliance between the two companies. I've driven the outgoing Outlander PHEV twice and came away extremely impressed!! Ultra-smooth, seemless operation. In fact, I would say Mitsubishi's hybrid system is far smoother than any of the clunky ones from Toyota/Lexus or Honda. As you mentioned in the video, this new Outlander is bold and has an eye-catching design. My 2009 Galant 2.4L (4G69) has been a solid performer with bulletproof reliability. I'm also nearing 200K miles with my 2011 cube SL with its original CVT (CVT fluid changed every 30-35K miles at the dealers). Absolutely no regrets at all. Mitsubishi is extremely underrated here in the US, but I still love them!

We got a 2023 (SE) and are generally impressed... one major hiccup is if the front sensor is occluded/clouded/obstructed... the car appears to get confused and grovels in partial apoplexy... it will go into reduced power mode, with accompanying red warning signs all over that digital dash (happened to us in 6-lanes of Chicago Friday evening rush hour in a dirty/misty drizzle with no place to pull over...). Once we were able to stop (car had less that 5K miles at that point), and restart the engine... it reset, and all was well... lesson from this is to clean the sensor area when getting gas -- just a good swipe with the window cleaning squeegee... hasn't occurred since... one very BIG plus is the fuel mileage -- the trip computer might be lying to me, but I don't think so, and I routinely get better than 33mpg even in stop-n-go DC rush hours, with road averages in the 35-37mpg range at interstate speeds... the seats are quite comfortable for long trips (20hr driving days or more...) and I'm getting used to the driver assist steering which is a good feature, but a tad distracting at first... otherwise, the Outlander seems to be much as described here... Mitsubishi appears to have done their homework; we'll know more in a 100K miles or so...

My husband purchased a Mitsubishi Outlander GT V6 brand new 2014 for me in 2014. This was the best car/suv I've ever had. It came with lane departure warning, back up camera, brake assist and front collision warning, You name it , and hit had it, and this was 2014. The car is 100 percent reliable and it can fly. I replaced my 2005 Chrysler Pacifica with the Outlander. The Chrysler Pacifica was the worst car/suv I've ever owned,( If you can even call it a car/suv.) And if you have one, I don't have to explain. I told Chrysler people, if I ever come back for another Chrysler or Jeep or anything associated with Chrysler, just kill me because I'm too stupid to live. I still have my 2014 Mitsubishi and I drive it more than my brand new Mazda CX-5. The only reason I didn't get another Outlander is because it has the CVT now, no thanks. The wife and I looked really hard at this one! Beautiful vehicle, nice body lines and awesome interior! Really wished it had more power and an 8 speed transmission. We wound up getting a CX-5 Mazda carbon edition with turbo and all wheel drive! 225 hp and red leather interior to boot! All for the same price as the Outlander, after the dealer discounted it by 2 grand. Would have definitely been the winner had the Outlander had more power and a better transmission.

With all the shipping and parts issues good luck if something breaks and needs replaced . Dealer network in our area is way smaller than Honda or Toyota, for Mitsubishi! Sorry my money for longevity is Toyota, then Honda. And resale value as well!

The only good thing about a CVT is that it's able to constantly vary in order to keep engine RPM at a constant ideal amount for the torque curve. The constant RPM annoyed drivers who thought it was a constant unresponsive droning. So now they lock them into set ratios to fake gears just so drivers can hear the engine revving. So why use a CVT at all? Cheaper to make and planned obsolescence! I don't buy cars with CVT transmissions.

Even though both Nissan and Mitsubishi use JATCO CVTs, Mitsu has a better track record with them in regards to longevity. This new Outlander though is 100 percent Nissan Rogue under the hood. This doesn't bode well for reliability. Mitsubishi programs their JATCO CVTs with INVECS III programming, arguably better reliability, and they also tend to have under-powered engines in order to lessen the stress on the CVT.

Been thinking of buying one, until now.... The moment you mentioned Nissan being involved I got a shudder through my spine. Nissan is known for having a crap CVT on its X-trail, even looking at second hand cars to buy. The X-trail is flooding the secondhand SUV market, with low, low kilometers. Proving the customers want to get rid of the asap. So, if this car shares the gearbox of a Nissan, Mitsubishi will soon also flood the second hand market cheap cheap.

If owners change the CVT fluid every 30-40K miles, they'll be fine. I've got almost 200K miles on my 2011 cube with its original CVT still running smooth and seamless. My 2011 Juke's CVT was still going strong when I sold it last year. I REALLY miss that li'l bug-eye beast!!!! Maintaining a vehicle according to the manufacturer's recommendations does wonders....Sadly, most owners of CVT-equipped Nissan are unaware of this, as they likely don't service their Nissans at the dealership. Toyota, Honda, Subaru, Dodge, Audi/VW have ALL had CVT failures in their closet. I personally know two Corolla owners who paid out-of-pocket for their CVT replacements. 2014-2015 Honda Accords as well. Most of these acquaintances sold their Corollas/Accords to the next sucker.
