I got the Visa Black Card back in 2009. Thought it was going to be a high class card with some status and perks. I got a few "gifts" from the company - a pair of RayBan Aviator Sunglasses, a Black Snapback Hat with the word BLACK written across it..a fairly nice Cross pen and a few other gifts, I can't even seem to remember. I think the gifts were shipped out about twice a year or so just randomly arriving in the mail without any notice as to what was coming or if it was useful to me. The magazine I received regularly was about 500+ pages thick, chock full of different photographs of high end products from cars to clothes to travel places...I don't really remember it being an advertisement ridden book, but it was huge and I did not really get much use of it anyway, so it could very well have been - looking back now. I did use the concierge service the card offered, a few times, until I realized that my Chase Freedom afforded me the exact same service for FREE. After a few years, I called to cancel my card several times, each time they said they would waive the annual fee for a year, so I held onto it. The 3rd year I called, and not having really used the card in over 4 years, I finally closed it for good, even though they again offered to waive another annual fee and asked if there was anything they could do to keep me on...I said, not unless they discontinued the annual fee as I never used the card. The card was pretty useless looking back now. The only reason I got it was after a friend of my had gotten one and raved about all of its perks. Thumbs down. Don't bother - just go for the CSR.

I just got the invite for the black card. Thanks for the review, I won't be wasting my time with it.

It's not even really a snob card though. It's a card for people who grew up poor, but saw rich people on TV and imagined that they plate everything in gold. And now they're an adult, and however much money they have, they're desperate to be seen as wealthy by other poor people.

thank you for answering 1 of my questions as which tier are they as you metioned 1 is tier 3 and the other two is tier 4 or is 1 of them the gold card a tier 5 card? so with the Gold premiere rewards you get a airline credit of 100. with the black card or Titanium do you get an airline or travel credit? redeeming your rewards is like Capital1 venture and Barclay's correct? if your going to show off wouldn't it be better to have a baseball card valued at 495 than pay an annual fee of 495? or a Rolex? for corporate executives wouldn't you think they would have a corporate card than these cards. like for example Donald trump and the owners of the Ritz carlton?

Tier 5 is invitation only cards, so Gold and Black both fall into tier 4.

What is global entry credit? Could you find out what the gifts are? Your point about preferring to spend your money yourself might be valid, depending on what the gifts actually are? If it were a LV purse, it might make the card a great deal, (yes, I know, it is not likely something that nice, and I know you don’t have the card, but some research?). I appreciate the video and you offer some great info. But there is also a lot that would have been nice to learn more about. I came here because I was offered one of these and I thought, “Why on earth would someone pay $995 a year for one of these?” I don’t have a single card that I pay an annual fee on. But then I got to thinking, “someone does and they must see a benefit other than the flashy gold plating!” So I am hoping to see what the benefit is? Or are these just rich people who aren’t smart? Haha, I am friends with Mike Chen, worked with him a few years back in New York, but no I didn't teach him stuff. I know he has the Amex platinum. Also I think he may be making a business decision to fly business or first, his Korean Air first class video got over 2 million views, so probably paid for the price of the ticket!!

These cards seem more like a scam. I know many cards have the same perks as the black card without a annual fee. I think they hope people get the black master card thinking its the same as the amex centurion. Centurion is the only true blackcard lol

“PoserCard” or “MarkCard” “Fool’sCard”

I got the Titanium Card last year. I like it a lot (though it's not my favorite card). 2 reasons: 1. It's 2% towards air fare and it doesn't matter what the MCC is (I put all auto-debits and subscriptions that I can with no additional fees for using credit except travel which I put on Chase Sapphire Reserve, including electric bills and childcare that would get only 1% on the Reserve card). 2. It has no foreign transaction fees and allows you to set up a pin (this is good for foreign countries where they only accept chip + pin at POS terminals). I have it as a backup in case a chip + signature card does not work and I don't want to use my Schwab high yield debit card.

Capital one has a student card which I was happy with no issues, they moved me up the platinum card a year later. The student card has few perks but they are not that strict on the credit score requirement.

Actually this card is pretty good if you travel a lot I have it. To go in these priority pass lounges it cost money but with the card it’s “free” we’ll not really free but you can offset the yearly dues but simply traveling. And the concierge it’s amazing, I called to get yankee tickets they just called me back and said here are the best seats. Ppl that don’t like that card probably won’t get approved for it anyway 😬

When we say it is bad, we are saying it is bad compared to similar cards in the range i.e. Chase Sapphire Reserve, Amex Platinum and Citi Prestige. All cards around $500 a year fee. But compared to those cards, the black card would come out bottom in terms of benefits. But if you say the concierge is good, then that is good to know.

SMH Ninja I just redeemed for coach airfare EWR to SEA. The prices are the same as on other sites like Expedia or Priceline, but I think the seats were purchased by Barclaycard (it allows you to pick your seat numbers before you check out, unlike with the Chase Ultimate Rewards portal where you have to go to the air line web site and pick the seats after checking out from the portal - for United flights anyway). I like putting purchases that would normally only grab 1% on other cards. Also like it as a backup card because you can assign a pin (chip + pin is more accepted overseas than chip + signature). Don't forget you can use it for purchase protection as well.

Speaking of rich people, I think it would be funny to call in to the Dave Ramsey Show, and ask if you should get the CSP, or the AMPEX Platinum. He hates credit cards, and advises his audience not to own a single one. "No, I've never listened to your show, my dad said I should call." I don't follow this BTW, love checks from Spark, and SPG points. ;)p

I disagree on “the upper class wouldn’t use this because they don’t brand themselves with expensive stuff.” Well, they have something called Rolls Royce, etc... soooo that’s not branding?

you missed his point. The card says "luxury" across it. As somebody with wealth and good financial stability (aka - rich), you don't normally wear tacky clothing with designer names on them, you don't wear t-shirts that say "Hey, I'm rich"... you downplay it and those who come across you will be able to tell based on the lifestyle you live, you don't need to air it out that you have money. And your point for about the car isn't a very good one, if I wanted a rolls royce, should I take off the logo so people don't know it's a rolls royce? That's something I can't control, same goes for any nice car and applies to what credit cards are in your wallet as well.

What's wrong with luxury if you budget and make the money to afford them? On this premise, those with average income shouldn't buy a top tier cell phone you can't afford, don't buy nice clothes and don't eat out. There are reasons for levels, stick with the facts and don't insinuate or generalize those that can afford luxury (p.s. I am a low income earner who isn't mad at the successful).

Long story short: some rich people are stupid, these cards were made specially for them.

My girlfriend just got offered the black card and I kind of had to laugh when I looked up the benefits. MasterCard can do better than this.

Barclaycard is THE WORST when it comes to customer service. Ihad to call in at least 3 times for a fraud alert.yes thats right CALL IN instead of verifying eith the app. Whats worse each time i was on hold for at least 20 minutes to (except when i called in late at night). And some of their agents are flat out rude, not like amex or chase. Only sticking with barclaycard credit cards until I qualify for the sign up bonus and then use it maybe once or twice a month tho keep history on it to pad my score

Rich people don't use Credit Cards, why would they? for a bonus of few hundred $? No. They are using savings accounts + debit cards. Once you get enough money (become rich) FICO credit rating and everything else related to debt becomes unimportant thing.

Many rich people still use credit cards, they just don't really care much about points and miles. But having a card that you can charge whatever to and then work out what account to use to pay for it afterwards is still very useful, not to mention the travel insurance, purchase protection they provide.

Sinan Ziric PRO these cards seem like poser cards but a lot of wealthy people do travel a lot and enjoy the perks that come with high level travel cards. It's more about the priority boarding and lounge access for airline cards or upgrades/lounge access with hotel cards

If you mean rich as is million plus a year then no they may use credit cards to just have them and have the accountant pay off the bill every month. Those who are well off around 100k plus, they have good money but still can use the rewards and other perks. Most users of high perk cards wont be multi millionaires but those making 200k or more a year that can afford travel and vacations but are not super super rich.

Not really. Most wealthy people are flying First or Business in the so they get all these perks and more just from buying their plane tickets. It's the same with their hotel stays, they're already likely booked into executive class suites. The reason they use credit cards is for convenience.

FrostyExchange most multimillionaire business owners that I’ve met (and yes I understand this is an anecdote and yes I realize I’ve only met roughly two dozen) (I would also like to clarify when I say multimillionaire business owners I’m counting CEO and I’m counting any company that grossed over 1m) all use credit cards typically for miles airline miles... You don’t get to having that kind of wealth by not taking advantage of everything you can... the real difference between someone who is broke and someone who is rich (beyond profession and skill) is discipline (and you could make a fairly strong argument that discipline is the same mechanism that gives you those marketable skills and high paying professions)

What do I think of these 3 cards?? 🥴🥴🤢🤢🤢🤮🤮🤮‼️🤢🤢🤮🤮🤮🤮🤮🤮🤮‼️ This is the worst trifecta. I would rather have a Credit One Trifecta or even a Crapital One trifecta. Both of those would have a better return of value.
