Is The Leica M6 The Best Camera Ever Made?

Leica M6 too much hype or not enough hype?
Using the Leica 35mm f2 summicron in this video.
Thanks ‪@timmuza‬ and Jacob Clark for helping film this.

Watched the whole video without skipping any part. It took me roughly 13 minutes. The quality is top notch, very well explained. Comprehensive, sorted, focused. Posting @ 13:19.

I have the exact same M6 TTL, the cool part about this particular TTL is they were originally released in 2000 for the Japanese market (you can tell by the screen printed Leica Logo on the top plate) 2 things that will legit make it the best camera ever made, MP rangefinder patch upgrade + M3 full metal winder. great video as always!

also the M4 quick loader (same as in the m6) was designed to load the film as fast as possible. theres a little "wheel" on the bottom plate that makes sure the film will catch and align. No need to waste the first couple frames -- I've never had it not latch doing it this way, HOWEVER before I learned this, I have had it come lose after a few shots when I've tried to make sure its caught myself by not trusting the camera LOL ( I suffer from the same anxiety, but I assure you, the camera has your back)

@@TaylorJacksonPhoto the biggest thing with the MP finder is it really cuts down on the flares, it’s not a deal breaker but I find the flares pretty bad on the M6!

I ummeds and ahhed over which M film camera to get tghe M6, M6ttl, M5, M4, M3 or M2. My heart was set on a 1958 M3 but Thea 1964 M2 came up at a price that was too good to refuse. I haven’t regretted it, the M2 does everything I need with no reliance on batteries, i can use sunny 16, an old hand held meter or just guess, it makes little difference thanks to the superbly wide exposure latitude of modern film stock. Even now if had some cash to spare id probably hunt down a mint 1958 m3 & cron 50/2 rather than the M6. It’s horses for courses, some feel the need to retain in camera metering, fast film change etc whereas others such as myself enjoy the freedom of shooting without a meter and the simple functionality of the older M cameras.

i had the m6 then half of my pro career and often hated it- because of the only 1/1000 sek. + missed sharp shots. But they were always "special" pictures - the reason to buy a digital Leica- to get something "magic" in our perfect image decade...

No… Mp all the way … and yes I do speak from experience… That cranked rewind was always a flaw and the result of cost cutting.. and don’t get me started on rangefinder flare…

For me, the Leica M6 is one the best 35mm rangefinder cameras ever made. The M2, M3, M4, and MP are close to the best.

A pretty easy “no”. If a Leica is in fact the best camera, then then MP is better than the m6. If I was had to name a best camera of all time it would be the Pentax 67ii. The MP would be second for me.

M6 is the best lol. MP is was overpriced in lot of ppl’s opinion. As for the 67ii, it’s such a heavy camera so I would disagree with that.

@@jimmaherphotography6245 Well, to be fair, the "new" Leica M6 is essentially a Leica MP with a cosmetic modification to make it look like the old M6. Other than the top plate, ALL parts are now identical, even the price is identical now. The original M6 is inferior in many ways, from the more flare prone viewfinder to the light meter breaking often, to those plastic parts on the side of the top plate that frequently cause light leaks. The MP is superior in every way.
