it has been on other markets for ages. but the HEV powertrain is added on in recent years and the way they release HEV only simply because of the production scale advantage due to HEV is the main demand in the Chinese market and by mass producing one power variant allows them to keep their pricing sharp.

Think your getting clouded judgement by electronic gadgets. Toyota tax is very high with low tech but reliability is very high and parts network all over Australia. A 3T vehicle with 400kg payload is poor compared to Prado with 760kg payload. Take 300kg off for ball weight you may not even fit driver in Tank. Fuel tank, you can’t get long range because battery is in back under rear, Prado has 150L & L300 has 130L.

@@bushmagpie3312 Kerb weight for the GWM Tank 500 Hybrid in Australia is 2,605kg. GVM is 3,395kg. So payload (including driver) is 790kg. Prado VX (what you need to have similar inclusions to the Tank 500) kerb weight is 2,305kg (with tyre on the back like the Tank 500). GVM is 2,990kg. So payload is 685kg. So you're incorrect on payload. Re fuel tank you're right but then the extra weight comes off the payload as the Toyota kerb weight is only with the main tank full. Re dealerships am pretty sure GWM now have over 100 dealers. Isn't an issue unless you're in the middle of nowhere.

That itself drives competition, within the last 2 years, foreign brands sale numbers have fallen off a cliff in china, simply because the chinese brands have caught up / exceeded them in mainstream offerings.

Perhaps a little disappointing in regard to driving dynamics and powertrain, but, the level of luxury, features, offroad capability and pure size is immense for sub 80k. This is on my to get list if it ever comes to Europe. Just imagine how good the Chinese vehicles will be some 10 / 15 yrs down the road. This Tank 500 is already very impressive spec wise. Reliability is something that the car has to be proven on. But design and spec wise, this is a winner. And the overall winners will be the car buyers. As Chinese brands will put pressure on the existing European, Asian and US automotive brands to really start innovating, too start offering better design and tech, better overall value at a better price point.

Even if you're trying to say bad things about this (coz you are on the anti-chinese bandwagon now for years), even if it was 13 litres/ 100 km that is still on par or better than any Land Cruiser 300, Patrol or Prado can yield. And note, it isn't GWM calim but it is an ADR claim of fuel consumption, which is pretty darn good at 8.5 litres. No Everest/ranger will ever yield you the 9.0L fuer consumption they calim. You'd be lucky to see 12 litres from a Ford if you're lucky. And that is Diesel. This one is petrol. That's another 20 cents per litre saved at the bowser.....

The Tank 500 has a 790kg payload, so you have more to play with. It could be the better choice to load up and take camping, and you can read more here: www.drive.com.au/reviews/2024-gwm-tank-500-australian-first-drive/ and keep an eye out as we'll have a more in-depth video review coming soon.

It suits our daily life the best, I feel the massive 4WD would be underpowered by its 2.0T Hi4T powertrain, haven't done my test drive yet though. figures on the paper are amazing, but performance in real life is another thing.

2L turbo is very small for a mid-size SUV like the GWM Tank 500. It will work that 2L hard enough to use as much, or more, fuel as a 3.5L. Toyota should offer the Sequoia in Australia. It sells for significantly less than the LC300 and has more interior space.

Was thinking of buying Tank 500 or the new GWM ute coming with V6 3.0L but won't even go to look at one if only hybrid available. Too underpowered with tiny 2.0L and not great towing capacity. For a vehicle this size a 2.0 litre just doesn't cut it. Better off paying more for a Ranger with much bigger engine, considerably more power and 3.5T towing capacity. Or even the new Triton with much more power and also 3.5T towing capacity for not that much more and you are buying vehicle with great reputation and re-sale value.

Ignore the idiots whom can't calculate correct figures or use an app for actual consumption figure. 13 lts per hundred is really good for a vehicle of this classification, with off road usage factored in, extremely good. It's not a humble street hybrid, it's a true tourer and that is a perfectly acceptable figure.
