Is the Elite Four the TRUE Pokémon Government???

Ойындар

Have you ever wondered if the Pokémon Elite Four are more than just top-tier Elite Four Pokémon trainers? In this intriguing Pokémon video, I dive deep into the theory that the Pokémon Elite Four might actually be the governing body of the Pokémon world. We'll explore the roles and influence these elite Pokémon trainers have, analyze evidence from the Pokémon games and anime, and consider the broader implications of this idea. Are they simply Pokémon champions, or do they hold political power as well? Join me on this journey as we uncover the hidden Pokémon connections and secrets of the Pokémon world. Don't miss this thought-provoking discussion on the true power dynamics behind the Elite Four!

It's funny how the police seem to vanish after being in New Bark town too lol. Maybe they figured the player would handle the situation AND Team Rocket better than they could! It's one of those quirky things that make the game memorable fr

pokemon has terrible world building, like i get that their economy is not the main focus but it would be nice to have a glimpse of how their economy functions even if its just a tiny detail. but i do like the concept brought by gen 8 that the pokemon league is akin to a sports league and the trainers are some sort of athletes (?) at least with that info we can probably assume that the pokemon league is not the ruling government.

fr tho! It would be fascinating to see more about how the Pokémon world's economy works. I agree, Gen 8's concept of the Pokémon League being like a sports league is pretty cool and gives us some insight into the world. It definitely suggests that the League isn't the ruling government, which opens up a lot of interesting possibilities

Here's my theory: Not too long ago, the Pokémon world was ruled by a monarchy. Back then, they didn't have any Pokéballs and training Pokémon took way longer and was prohibited by the state for normal citisens, since the Monarchy wanted to use Pokémon to keep their own power. Then the Pokéballs where invented (or reinvented after the technology got lost for quite a while) and not normal citisens could catch an train Pokémon more easily, and hide that they where doing it. This culminated in the war Lt. Surge fought in. It was actually a civil war to break free from the Monarch, which the Pokémon League won. This probably just happened, like, ten our fifteen years before Red and Blue, thats why the Pokémon League Government is still not that well organized. It makes sense that nobody was able to stop Team Rocket, since their Leader was part of the Government. I presume Gym Leaders are something like Sheriffs. The very thing the League is built upon is eachs individual right to own and train Pokémon. Thats why Pokémon health Care is free. And Trainers are not just supported for their own sake, they are supposed to fill in for the understaffed Police force, using the power they gain for good. Oh, and the old Monarchy? That used to sit in Unova, their Heir is N and Team Plasma actually tried to reinstate their rule.

Does that mean that... all monarchs could talk to Pokémon? Through a secret technique anyone could learn? Or as a special power granted to them by a legendary Pokémon that thinks they should be the rulers? And are Pokémon Rangers, patrolling regions where there are no Pokéballs, the servants of an oppressive regime?

  • @TheSorrel

    @TheSorrel

    Ай бұрын

@@Echiewel Not necessarily all monarchs. There's many fantasy stories where the Royal family used to have an inherent ability that got lost over the generations, until someone was born who had this ability again. Maybe the whole thing was just Propaganda and N wasn't even related to the Royal Family, lol. About Rangers: Maybe, I don't know much about those games. But maybe they just think that Pokéballs are unnatural or whatever and don't want to use them unrelated to what they think of the monarchy.

In the anime the elite four are just 4 really strong trainers, you dont even have to beat them to be champion. Of course each pokemon media is its own universe. Whatever happens in the anime is canon to the anime, not the games, not the TCG not the manga etc

I feel like the elite four and champion would have more of an advisory and or enforcement role. Handling hearts and minds as well as assisting law enforcement when something stronger than them come along. That's just how i think it should go. Not backed up by anything. Also, it's confirmed that Unova is based off of New York.

I can totally see the Elite Four and Champion stepping in as advisors and enforcers, especially when things get tough. It makes sense they'd play a big role in maintaining order and helping out law enforcement. And yep, Unova being based on New York is a cool detail that adds to the world-building. I couldnt remember if it was America or just new york, thanks for lmk!

Pokemon never really explored how things are run, at least in the present (cause we have plenty of examples of regions that used to have kings and such) and of course because the children are there to catch wacky little creatures, not vote in an election. And I don't mean just the players, I mean the in game 10 years old protagonist that we play as. Therefore I tried to fill this fallacy by imagining in the world of Pokemon things are very decentralised with mayors being entrusted with most of the work. In the case of Alola I imagine it's some sort of hierocracy (irl, a government formed by priests) under the Kahunas who are basically priests to their respective Tapu, while in other regions I don't really know, but like I said, the 10 years old we play as probably doesn't even know what a president is so why should the player know who the head of state in each region is. Now that I think of it, what even is a Pokemon region? Is it meant as an administrative unit within a country, like idk Catalonia in Spain? Or is it meant in a geographical way? Anyway, to explain why no government gets involved with the evil theme awakening and elder deity to reset the universe, the best I can think of is either it all happens so fast the government can't come up with a response before the local toddler saves the day, or it all happens away from the public eye so the only people aware are those directly involved (like idk, team rocket somehow managed to sneak into silph co without the police being alerted)

  • @TheeBreadShow

Idek know what a region is now that i think about it, they're not described as countries, and theres def no one that oversees the whole thing lol. And your explanation for why the government doesn't get involved with the evil teams is spot on-either everything happens too quickly or it's kept under wraps. w comment

IMO I think it depends on the region and even what constitutes a “government” as you mentioned. Although some context clues could definitely rule out Alola and Galar as ones where the league may rule, as both don’t seem to hold their leagues as sources of authority in the same sort of way other regions do. In Alola it’s clear the Kahuna’s have a strong say even if to what degree we don’t know. The deciding fact to this case would be the fact that their leauge was recently established. Galar has just as much of a clear cut case where public Pokémon battling in the regions is shown to be treated as a glorified sport and spectacle to a degree where they only have a tournament without any formal elite four to speak of, and crowds gather in stadiums to watch gym battles where other regions have far fewer on a smaller scale or even as private affairs all together.

I think in Gen 1, the Pokemon games were originally set in our real world. The 'Kanto' region (was it actually called that in game in RGBY?) was just supposed to be an isolated part of Japan where yokai were real. Hence the references to real world places like America, South America, China, and France. I think by Gen 3/4 they realized it should be set in it's own world, both for more games and to avoid real world politics. So Surge being Unovian, the SS Anne being from Kalos, etc. are technically retcons, but in my opinion it was a good move.

Pokémon is almost a 30-year-old franchise. Its own lore has changed both in-universe and outside (game freak’s ideas). For example, in Gen1 it was clear that both in-universe lore and gamefreak’s ideas were going for Pokemon to be some sort of mutated animals with new being the original. Also, Pokémon was part of the “real” world (Mew in Guyana, LT Surge being American, etc). We now have literal Pokémon Gods, creationist origins (Arceus), and the Pokémon world being completely different from ours (Unova in place of America and so on). Why do I bring this up? To illustrate that the Pokemon League was probably meant to be the government during the early days, up to Gen3 maybe. Then they started modernizing the franchise and they gave us a “definitive” version of the league being a sports league like FIFA with regional variants. But that’s probably a retcon.

I’ve been writing Paldea fic (Operation Comet Punch) where I’m interpreting the League AS the main body of government but it’s hilarious how unclear they are with this stuff. Been reading the ScarVi manga for research and it’s been really fun. Also, LOVED your point about how every damn distressing event in the games is never addressed by actual organizations! Like. Seriously wtf

Then the Pokémon rangers must be public service workers! They are mentioned in the side games as keepers of the peace who deal with Pokémon related ecological problems and also deal with the gang fights. Peacefully I might add. They don’t fight their way to the top, they learn their way through school and are stationed throughout multiple regions as ecologists/police/firefighters. They work with Pokemon through an association to keep peace in the Pokemon world. It was Pokémon’s answer to PETA. If you find it morally wrong to make animals fight for honor, power and glory, treat them like a friend. They still have powers that can be used and in this situation they are, to let’s say, put out a fire or save the region from being taken over by an evil organization. They are the closest thing you’ll find in the franchise to some solid opposition to the evil organizations of the story. Also, if the elite four are the government, then they hired a four year old to run paldea.

Also chairman rose is probably the closest we have to a current government...also about pokemon war there are 2 wars we know of...one is the ly surge war and the other was the "kalos"and "other" conflict which ended with the firing of the ultimate weapon....wich was so strong it caused a timeline split and made the one who fired it AZ and his flowette immortal.

In my opinion, the Pokemon League, including the Gyms, are part of a or are the military and not a government. It would make sense to put the most experienced and powerful battler at the top of a military and not the government. This doesn't solve the question what and where the government is in Pokemon, of course, but it makes more sense to me.

I think it depends on the region? Alola has the Kahuna's who I'm pretty sure are the people in charge and they were chosen by the island gods and also the league was also a recent thing. So it's safe to say that Alola is not ruled by the Elite Four and Champion. Same is probably true with Paldea since it was at least implied that the league was still a pretty recent thing there too. Also Galar treats it as a sports thing so it's not the government there either Not sure about the other regions though.

Have you played Pokemon Fire Red: Rocket Edition and Pokemon Rocket Edition. If so, the 2 villain focused Pokemon games had mention the government in the Pokemon. According to these 2 games, it is mentioned that if you became the champion of the region, you get the politcal power and rights to rule the region. I suggest play Pokemon Fire Red: Rocket Edition and Pokemon Rocket Edition and see who is running the government in the Pokemon games.

There were plenty of Kings in the past of the Pokemon World like AZ or Almia's King & technically N was supposed to be a modern day king. These are just the games & the anime mentions plenty of other small kingdoms existing. My opinion is that there still is some form of government that the 10 Year Old player just doesn't interact with. I don't think the Pokemon Company wants to delve into politics of a modern world. The main series could never perform a plot like you see in the Mystery Dungeon games where the player is a fugitive.
