    I mean that’s a nice sentiment but by great we’re talking about the health of the Church. The Church in Germany is pretty objectively not in a great place. It’s on the brink of schism, over 500,000 German Catholics left the Church last year alone, and has a lot of state influence over it. Meanwhile, the Church in Nigeria is very strong, rapidly growing, and sending priests throughout the rest of the world. The regional Churches and dioceses are not all equal and not all in great places. (This doesn’t mean that there aren’t good Catholics, good priests, good communities, or beautiful liturgies there.)

    Wow, your video really got me thinking! As a European who lived in North America for quite some time, I must say you've highlighted some fascinating aspects. But, let's dive deeper into this discussion: Positives: 1. Greater sense of solidarity and fellowship, like those heart-warming parish potluck suppers. It's interesting how faith can differ between continents. 2. I was impressed by the stronger sense of creative fidelity in North America. The way one priest provided specific Scripture references during Confession was truly inspiring and sets a higher standard. 3. Belief in the feasibility of holiness is a powerful force. It's amazing to see how American Catholics' trust in St. John Henry Newman's holiness led to his canonization. A testament to faith and to his intercession! 4. The pragmatic can-do attitude as seen, for example, in the Catholic Marriage Tribunals is commendable. It's great to see effective ways to determine the validity or nullity of marriages. Areas for development: 5. I would add a thought-provoking point about some American brothers and sisters being 'Catholic in creed but protestant in culture'. The way that some engage in 'shopping around' between different rites and forms of worship is intriguing and raises important questions. 6. The assumption that the American experience reflects the Universal Church is a topic worth exploring further. It's crucial to understand and appreciate the diverse expressions of faith worldwide. 7. Importing polarized politics into the Church is definitely something to reflect on. The Church should transcend political divisions, embracing unity in Christ. Your insights have sparked my curiosity, and I can't help but wonder how these differences and challenges can impact the future of the Church. Let's continue this engaging conversation and explore how we can bridge these gaps while celebrating the richness of Catholicism!

    As a foreigner it sometimes appear as if Americans put political affiliations/beliefs before Church dogma/teachings. Because a lot of American Catholics have trouble accepting/following/being open with certain topics if they contradict their political affiliations or party they vote for.

    I think many sincere and well-meaning American Catholics struggle with this. They blur the lines between Church teaching and political ideology. I think the dominant, two party system is largely to blame. In countries with more than two mainstream parties and politics that are more nuanced and varied, it is easier to be a politically adaptable Catholic.

    @adambrocklehurst4211 Dear Adam, I have found that no other church teaches repentance like the Catholic faith. My many close friends who have had abortions have never outlived that day. Their pain continues long after the act. They have become alcoholics, drug addicted, and self torturers. I do not hate them nor does God but they often hate themselves. They are my sisters.There are 64 million babies that have been aborted since Roe v Wade. The Isrealites sacrificed 1000s by sacrificing them to Baal/Moleck and God obliterated the Northern kingdom and 19 years later sent the Southern Kingdom into bondage. There was no repentance and God does not break His own laws. The Gay movement celebrates June. That was Ishtar's month. She was Ashtaroth, Innana, Venus, etc. Her priests were men dressed as women. She was the Goddess of parades who cast spells to make a man love a man. How is America doing since we took prayer out of the schools and the 10 Commandments out of Government display? On 9/11/41, we began to build the Pentigon. It marked the beginning of US power in the world. What else happened on 9/11? Did you know that New York was founded on that day and the man who founded it in 9/11/16 pronounced a blessing and a curse on it. The blessing was that if we followed God, we would be richly blessed but if we turned from God, he pronounced Moses' curse. On our 9/11, we were struck but there was no repentance. 19 yrs later, we have been struck with Covid-19. As for me and my house, we will serve the Lord. I repent all my past transgressions against God and my fellows. May God have mercy on us for what we have done and what we have left undone.

Your statement sent shivers down my spine for Iam NYC born and raised. I was living on Manhattan on 9/11/2001. I came to realize and accept that God allowed the destruction of the Twin Towers because of unbridled sin against Him. But that took me some time to understand. I was shocked by the event itself. In fact I had PTSD connected to it. Not like a war veteran's, but I had nightmares, etc. So I had to heal from the event before I could see the bigger picture. God's picture. 🌹🌹

    The TLM is widespread here and there are many parishes with orthodox teachings, but we also have the most clownery clown masses, so maybe it's a land of extremes. In a land of Protestantism, we also fall short of having Catholic culture, even in very Catholic areas. We barely have processions, little if any local feast days where a large community or city can come together.

    As a northeasterner in the US, you cannot get away from the liberal nature of the Catholic Church. Pro-life is barely a thing anymore, and homilies are like a standup routine, it’s more important to make people laugh than make them uncomfortable. I have a priest friend (from NY) who told my kids they don’t have to attend mass during vacation. In Europe, no young people are at the masses we attended. The church has bigger issues than which is best.

    My experience in Europe--Belgium, Luxembourg, and Germany--was that the people are more Catholic in their day to days lives in how they live; more community, less consumption, high quality leisure, etc and in general happier. Americans Catholics, unavoidably effected by puritanism, tend to be more legalistic, think too much about getting ahead (a problem related to anti-Catholicism and not wanting to be viewed as a "dirty foreigner"), and in general maybe a bit of an inferiority complex to boot. American Catholics, in the end, are Americans. Patria, I think, is what Eropeans have and what Americans are missing.

    The Catholicism in the US and other first-world countries is so much different from our Catholic culture in Latin America. I would say the majority of Catholic latinos are not even remotley intrested in the type of conversations you have in Steubenville, Pints with Aquinas, or Scott Hahn's podcast. Most Catholic Latinos are way simple-minded. We have a very limited understanding of the faith compared to Americans. The reasons? We could argue there are many. But one of them I would say we as a low-wage working-class culture don't even have the time to leisure and ponder on this kind of intelectual activities. That combined with an actual lack of interest. "There are no uninterested subjects, only uninterested people", said C.S. Lewis. Maybe this is particularly true for Latin Americans Catholics. There is much more to being poor, than lack of money.

  • @canibezeroun1988

    @canibezeroun1988

    Жыл бұрын

    I think that's in part because the intellectual tradition is different. Latin America does have it's own strains, but I think Americanism has interfered with people being in touch with their own scholars. I'm a Black invert to Catholicism so there are a ton of racial obstacles I have to contend with when it comes to witnessing my faith within my family.

  • @Forester-

    @Forester-

    It’s easy to be “simple minded” about faith when it’s the cultural norm. Not that simple minded people are unintelligent, they just may not have ever had to really examine, justify, and defend why they believe what they believe. We have the same type faith among “cultural Catholics”. I think that’s why converts tend to be knowledgeable about the faith, they had to work up to that belief, it wasn’t the passed onto them and it wasn’t the cultural norm. If the trend of secularization extends to Latin America there will be a growth of Catholic intellectual interest because people will be confronted by new arguments and forced to defend their faith or leave it.

My main Church has no music, no altar boys & hardly any genuine reverence. On a hot day this month the service was rushed & over in 30 minutes. I was hot, but more offended. When I travel...at least they have music...but they just ended Saturday Vigil Mass due to low attendance. The Spirit of the Age loves Taylor Swift more than Jesus. There's certainly a lot of that going on. Might be worth writing a letter to the priest stating your objections to the way things are being done, which aspects you feel are most cheapened. Choosing the abbreviated readings and psalms, skipping the 2nd reading & homily, and speeding through the liturgy of the Eucharist as well. The mass lost its substance and reverence. Just because it's 95 degrees outside doesn't excuse irreverence or breezing through everything. Unless you're on the cusp of a battle, there's very little reason to cut both mass and all other ministries so short. A lot of that will fall back to the local bishop and priests, in choosing individuals apparently without the necessary abilities to shepherd God's flock. Traditionalists and reverent Novus Ordo don't seem to have the same issues. I'm not really sure how to express a desire for either, but I think that is what is most necessary. But then I also fear the bishop's ability to squash both, as is seemingly the case in my hometown diocese.

    This very question annoys me. I have to watch the whole video but I want to explain. I was born and raised Catholic in the US but never really absorbed the American way of thinking about the culture. I really took to my Southern Italian heritage and that is my fundamental mindset. I have not had the opportunity to live in Italy but I have been living in Israel for 15 years and it's a better fit than America. I don't get this constant need for comparison either. I had been away from the Church for many years, going instead with the Evangelicals. I have been trying to watch KZread videos but the American presenters are just so dogmatic about the TLM and how they have to be right. Well, here's a newsflash. Not everyone thinks like you. We don't have the option. There may be an occasional Latin Mass in Jerusalem but where I live, Haifa, we are strictly Novus Ordo and this is what the Latin Patriarch has decreed as the standard. I don't like it but my only option is to drop out again. I don't speak Arabic, but the Arab language Mass has a more traditional feel. I went to the English one on Saturday evening and while the liturgical music is a bit bland and wishy washy it is ok. But for the Communion and Dismissal, they used Protestant praise songs! I was furious. I have a pretty good voice but it rebels against contrarian spirits and I could not sing either of these songs. What do bluebirds singing in the morning have to do with the Eucharist? Ok, rant over, I will finish the video.

    We have national bishops conferences and we even have national “delegations” at councils and synods. This is a very historical concept in the Church. It’s really only in the aftermath of the Reformation that local and national Churches had less direct control. Even today it’s the national church that controls observances of feast days and fasting requirements for their flock.
