Is the 2023 Toyota Sienna XSE better to BUY than a Honda Odyssey?

Автокөліктер мен көлік құралдары

The Sienna is a minivan offered by Toyota and the XSE trim adds sport to the formula. On the outside you will find a unique grill, front fascia and 20in wheels. On the inside you will be greeted by tons of storage, sunroof and rear seat entertainment. Under the hood is a 2.5L inline-4 paired with (2) electric motors. Is the 2023 Toyota Sienna XSE better to BUY than a Honda Odyssey?

    An incredible achievement that a big minivan like this can deliver 36 MPG. That is amazing. I can remember vans being in the low teens... The Odyssey and Sienna are incredibly practical vehicles. Basically a pickup with protected storage the way some people use it. Don't understand why they don't make double rear door with ramp option on these vehicles, because people who like to dirt bike and bicycle would prefer the theft and environmental protection of a van, and don't want to buy a commercial van which is never as efficient.

    My wife and I are moving to Nova Scotia next year to be closer to family. She wants to pile everyone into one vehicle for day trips and she is open to a minivan for seven people. Nova Scotia also gives a discount on insurance for a hybrid, so this might be my next family hauler. For me, leg room and comfort are the first two priorities, followed by if I can fit comfortably in the third row.

    Mr. Joe, Great review, I am looking into finding a good fit to go back and forth from time to time up north to visit family, as we are here in lower Fla. We have the pooch of course and cannot fly home comfortably anymore. This Sienna fills the void I think when I try to get myself motivated to even attempt to take a trip back north. Heavy price tag but not as much as a small van style camper would cost. Thanks again Be well

    Nice van, but a couple omissions that I don’t understand. One was one of your zonks, the rear wiper, because the previous generation Sienna did have the wiper tucked up under the spoiler. The other is the sunroof. Our 2017 Limited doesn’t have a panoramic because of the rear entertainment, which is just like the new van’s, but it does have two sunroofs. The rear one is really big and even opens. So, not sure why they chose to kind of go backwards with this new generation. Great review as always Joe!

    I prefer a van, comfort, height, more cargo room and mpg. With awd it's perfect for the east coast winters. Had suv's, enjoyed them but prefer the room and better mpg. Have a 2016 Sienna, had a 2005 and they are so nice to drive distances , driven to FL twice a year. No worries , very reliable and i can do most maintenance/repairs myself. I had a 20 sienna se, then a 22 odyssey. I went to a 13 Sequoia just because i needed a truck. But honestly if Toyota does a little updating on the new sienna it would be my new van. Id like for the 2nd row to completely come out and the floor to be flat. And it needs a rear power roll down window like in the Sequoia, and they should honestly extend the van about a foot so with the 2nd row all the way back you can still fit people in the 3rd row. I guess what Im hoping for is a grand sienna lol. But without these upgrades my current Sequoia makes more sense for my family at the moment.

    The Odyssey rides much better and has better power. Why would you take this over an Odyssey? I'm trying to choose between the two but it seems to me like most people make their choice based on whether they are Toyota fans or Honda fans. I see many advantages to the Odyssey and most head to head comparisons favor the Odyssey... it would help to explain why.

But here’s a thing.. sienna hybrid vs A V6 .. so 36 MPG vs 22 .. I think the odyssey looks fun inside the remove seat.. and the sticky seats.. oh on the 3 row you can flip the seats if you are on a tailgate reunion etc.. but definitely I think sienna its better for MPG. Beautiful case.. and I am a toyo fan 😂 I hope this helps you a little bit. 👌

    Great review as always! I've had my 23 XSE for just under 2 months now and I have zero buyers remorse, letting go of my 2016 4Runner. 3 kids and friends or just the 5 of us going on vacation, using the 3rd row, left a comical amount of trunk space. Definitely not enough room for a full sized stroller with the usage of the 3rd row in the 4Runner. It was great for my previous stage of life though. I'm going to add a zonk though... I am short, so I'm not sure if it is because my seat is pulled up, but if you have a water bottle or cups in the cupholders in the door, you can not access them while the door is closed. The cupholders in general, leave a lot to be desired, but at least there are 4 on the bridge, unlike the 2 in my 4Runner. Another zonk, would be the rear wiper not being tucked away. Overall, I am pretty impressed with its acceleration. where I live, it is mainly interstate driving with a speed limit of 70mph, getting onto the interstate has not been a problem, even keeping it in ECO, surprisingly. I had been waiting over 6 months for a new Kia Carnival SX I had ordered, and just got tired of waiting with no build date. My local Toyota dealership that does not mark up their inventory, was getting 1 lonely 2023 Sienna XSE black with black (dark gray) interior (like my 4Runner) and FWD so it had the black wheels, and I scooped it up. It arrived 2 weeks early and I couldn't be happier with our purchase.

The part that most blows my mind is the full-on, business-class, living-room-worthy recliners in the second row. None of the others can come close to touching those. And I wanted dark brown leather instead of tan. Stays cleaner easier and longer, and easier to clean. Bravo, Toyota!

I am not a big CVT fan, but we have one now in our Honda CR-V, and it hasn't been a problem so far (72,000K). As far as horsepower, they could probably put a turbo on that thing and get the extra 50hp. Weather-Tech will probably have options for various floor/trunk protectors, so that might be an option down the road. I'm wondering how long it would take to get one? The 2024's will be out pretty soon I would think?

We decided to return it because it felt small in the 3rd roll ,no spare tire, no entertainment system on the xle model, for what we paid we could get more for our money so we decided to go with the 2022 odyssey touring which we love ❤. It has everything and more, specially the entertainment system for the kiddos and my spare tire. This is the first time we switched from suv to a minivan and I don’t think I’m going back. Out of my experience driving both the Sienna and odyssey, either or will work, it really depends on your needs. Take your time to do your research and drive test both before you invest

    I booked my Sienna XSE 25th Anniversary in Nov 2022 and until now the dealer is not able to get the vehicle allotted for me. Does it really take 6 months for Toyota to allocate a vehicle. The only additional package I selected was the Entertainment Package with Options + Dashcam + Trifold mat. Is it really worth such long for this minivan as I also see that the Odyssey might come up a redesign for the 2024 model which I believe has a better spec than the Sienna. Please share your thoughts.

    My '04 Sienna has 275k and it's very common for them to achieve this mileage. AWD option makes for an extremely practical car. Odysseys of the 2000's would grenade their transmission at 200k like clockwork. I like the 4 cylinder hybrid setup, it would be cool if they added a turbocharger in addition to the hybrid setup like what we get with the platinum trim on the new Crown.

    our 2000 odyssey started suffering from transmission slips at around 200k miles. so the next minivan will likely be a sienna. i think toyotas also use a timing "chain" rather than a timing belt so more robust. the only thing that concerns me about toyota minivan vs honda is siennas are now only hybrid. after the hybrid batteries go out, it might be expensive to replace them which negates the cost savings of getting a hybrid i think. also i really like the magic/sliding seats of odysseys. i wish siennas had that.

  • @jordanimatedstreaming

    @jordanimatedstreaming

    @@Noypi54494 No transmission maintenance. A lot of transmissions claim to be 'sealed for life' and not need servicing. Some of those claims are true, some aren't. The truth of whether or not you should really be servicing the transmission is down to the make and model you are driving. Toyota engines and transmissions are some of the best in the business in terms of reliability. Non-CVT Toyota automatic transmissions (going back as far as the early 90's) were all very reliable. Couple this with the fact that the Sienna is a minivan, and therefore highly unlikely to have been driven hard and aggressively. Minivan owners are typically moms and dads just trying to raise kids, so it's unlikely the transmission has been abused.
