Is Solana (SOL) the Ethereum Killer? w/ Anatoly Yakovenko (Ep. 362)

Anatoly Yakavenko is the co-founder of the Solana protocol (SOL) which claims to solve the biggest problems facing blockchains like Bitcoin, Ethereum, Cardano and others. Rather than proof of work or proof of stake, Solana is pursuing what is called proof of history.

I’d recommend have Emin Gün Sirer from Avalanche as your guest too. He’s one of the OG in blockchain industry. Their Avalanche consensus mechanism is one of the most innovative since Nakamoto consensus of BTC. Their system is so flexible that you can have any virtual machine run on it. Basically they can run any blockchain as subnets on Avalanche.

True that often times the inferior tech wins, but with this space the difference in capabilities between some of these L1s is so dramatic that I think the superior tech will actually win this time around. With other protocols in the past, you could more or less get the same things done with an inferior alternative. JavaScript is the worst language ever but it got the job done. Meanwhile there's no way a high speed CLOB will ever run on Ethereum or Cardano for that matter.

To all those that dont understand: Solana only needs hardware(gpu) to fix if there’s a lot of transaction that’s flooding the network. While eth needs eth 2.0 which still they cannot deliver. And if they will deliver, they cant still keep up with solana’s scalability because of the 100,000 chicken approach where 100,000 raspberry pi will verify the transactions of the network. Meanwhile a single rtx 3080 will verify a transaction for around 300k transaction per second. Proof of history is an innovative approach where when there’s 100,000 tps or more, the block producers will still know which transaction goes first and which transaction is telling the truth.y

You get a guy from Solana and he spends most of the time talking about Ethereum, he couldn't pitch Solana in simple terms so always going into some comparison, stating what Ethereum is(in his opinion) and what Solana is. For such a debate you can get Vitalik to speak for Ethereum and he can speak for Solana. Then you get a real debate. Solana is going the route of hardware optimization (like the centralized cloud providers), has no virtual machines like Ethereum, meaning it will never be decentralized and has no intentions. What you will notice about these fast blockchains is that they sacrifice decentralization and therefore security. Solana may be good for some type of fast trading or in game microtransfers but will never be suitable for holding sustainable amounts of value. You want to use it get out of it.

Why is this guy being asked about Ethereum, he should talk about his project. He is a competitor and of course will not talk about Ethereum in a favourable way.

Avalanche is the only one which will ever come close. These two coins will come dominate the L1 war because they are just so much more scalable and cheaper than other chains will ever be without compromising on decentralization

SOLANA is very centralised, they are closer to Binance than Ethereum, that’s why they can achieve such speeds, it’s the trade off you have to make.
