    If you see comments here about investing or brokers, they are scams. Videos about cryptocurrencies, evidently including ones that are just about the underlying technology/math, are hotbeds for attracting nefarious actors preying on the impressionable. Also, hi! If you’re new to this channel, most of it is about visualizing math. I get it, you probably landed here searching for how BTC works, not to spend your afternoon getting pulled into learning about, say, prime numbers or problem-solving, but if you have a moment take a look at the rest of the channel, you may enjoy what you find.

    Something that should be obvious to any computer scientist: This is terrible in practice. It wastes the same amount of energy every 10 minutes regardless of how many transactions are there. This amount of energy is only decided by how much energy miners want to waste: the answer is as much as possible, while still having a profit. So every 10 minutes miners can spend 6 bitcoins worth of electricity and still have profit (0.25 btc). The more expensive crypto gets, the more energy it will waste.

    @Alberto T. Yeah, it's not scalable. Note that proof of work is one solution to the problem; there are many other ways of doing it. (Ex/ proof of time, proof of stake, proof of burn, etc...). Also, if the amount of time was reduced to say 0.01 seconds instead of 10 minutes to make it more practical, there will be too many forks & network spam. The blockchain itself also has poor scalability, though, considering that transactions from a single individual are spread out and all stored separately. It is a neat idea. There are just too many downsides.

    @Tobi I'd probably go with centralized and regulated currencies because they seem way less volatile, reliable and secure. And if cryptocoins ever become the go to currency, central authorities and the wealthy will centralize their hold on it, so I don't see how that's ever going to become a better alternative. Maybe the players and the chips would be different but the game would be the same.

    I think the first thing to get down is the notion of decentralized ledgers. An understanding of where the actual bitcoins are in the whole process is vital to understanding what is going on. Everything else is just applying cryptography to deal with the various security problems that these decentralized ledgers would otherwise have.

"No, but I know exactly where I am" Heisenberg replies. The cop says "You were doing 55 in a 35." Heisenberg throws up his hands and shouts "Great! Now I'm lost!" The cop thinks this is suspicious and orders him to pop open the trunk. He checks it out and says "Do you know you have a dead cat back here?" "We do now, asshole!" shouts Schrodinger. In 2019, people have realized there isn't going to be one crypto to rule them all. In fact, I want bitcoin and Ethereum to be successful.

  • @EebstertheGreat

    @EebstertheGreat

    2 жыл бұрын

    @@vishank7 All of the work is "wasted" in the sense that it doesn't actually do anything useful. Its only purpose is to make it cost time and money to make a new block. As more people start mining, each block requires more effort to mine and gives less reward. It is a lot like gold mining in that way. If you are mining gold, all the digging you do that doesn't lead to finding any new gold is wasted. But usually there is no way to find gold without wasting a lot of time on misses. The more people mine, the deeper you have to go to find new gold, and the less you usually find. The difference between bitcoin mining and gold mining is that gold has some real utility outside of its value as currency, while bitcoins have no other utility. However, most gold ends up locked away in vaults anyway, so I think it's a reasonably good analogy.

    To verify requires almost no work, that is to read the block chain to find the transaction. Work is required to validate the transaction, that is to write it to the blockchain. A transaction will typically be written to the blockchain with thousands of others.

I was able to grasp the knowledge of trading crypt0 assets early enough, but I was still limited due to my lack of technical understanding of how to analyze the digital market, all that changed when I encountered *VirtualCryptoMines🟡COM* , I must confess it was easier to understand with the assistance of Andy that has made me over good ᴄoin.

    The worst bit is how most are too lazy to set the bots up so they change their profile pictures, so you have a bunch of default picture KZread users talking to each other. I think even worst than that, is that they DO change the profile pictures of the bots, but they are all really high quality portraits of middle class business people smiling. I've once come across a comment chain that had two bots with the same profile picture of the same man, but under different names.

This shows that whales and smart funds are buying bitcoin quietly, but they won't let the public know. Trying to make sense of cryptocurrencies can be a bit overwhelming for investors. < It's a nascent but promising asset class built on technology that has the potential to disrupt a wide range of industries. For investors, what's probably most attractive is the possibility of life-changing returns. Don't worry, you're not late to the crypto party. We're likely still in the very early innings, leaving you with lots of time to put money to work and learn about this burgeoning market. If you're new to crypto then my advise is that you trade with the guidance of an expert. As someone who is majoring in Computer Science and is planning to go into cybersecurity, the thing about this field that keeps blowing my mind is just how much work has gone into it. There’s so much that’s been built, so much that’s been done, so much to do. This field is VAST, there’s just so much stuff in computer science! Some of it is popular, some of it is revolutionary, some of it is both, most of it is neither. This creation of cryptocurrency was built off of the work of many people over a long period of time, and the explosion of various cryptocurrencies built off of that. Everything builds on everything else, and it just. never. stops. So much stuff is still being made, and it’s basically impossible to keep up with it all.

    GREAT VIDEO!! Before this I watched some videos about what it is and how cryptocurrency works. But they really couldn't describe how cryptocurrency works. They gave some vague analogies which I really couldn't understand well, Can't really blame them! They might know the thing from core but wouldn't tell it in the video so to make a short and interesting video that will attact and retain viewers. Then I found your video. Hesitated a bit noticing the video length but watched it anyway! I think Now I REALLY understand the very basics of what crytocurrency is how it works. I still have questions Though I know I very likely wouldn't find answers of those as youtubers are oversimplifying things. But anyway a REALLY GREAT video!! THANKS for doing this!!

    You do understand that paper money has no intrinsic value exactely like bitcoins right? The only thing that makes paper money valuable is that people believe it has value. If people massively started agreeing that bitcoins have "the same value" as paper money, they EFFECTIVELY WOULD HAVE the same exact value. Are we there yet? Of course not. But that does not change the point.

    A few questions that really confused me: 1. Why don't we remove the reward and have the transaction fee given to the miners only? 2. Seems that it is up to every miners to pick which transactions to be included to the block by themselves. In this case, how do the miners know which transactions are already included in the blockchain? 3. say person A & person B is trading via Bitcoin, do they wait for the transaction to be included into the blockchain before completing the trade? Thanks for you answering

  • @theopantamis9184

    @theopantamis9184

    2 жыл бұрын

    1. It will be the case once the halving of rewards will bring it to zero in 2140 (because of floating arithmetic limitation). The idea behind block subsidy (the new coins introduced to pay the miner) is that it is the "fairest way" to inject the money in the system in a spam-resistant way while also increasing the reliability of the network while the transacted value is still low at the beginning. 2. Miners mine over the last block they know, meaning they include the hash of the last block they know in the block template they use each time they try to build a new valid block. That means they know all the transactions that were included in the block up to this last block they know. So they can include any others they know to produce a new longest valid branch of blocks 3. If they use "onchain" payment which is described here yes, B must wait several confirmation before giving to A what he/she paid for or she can perform the attack shown at the end. However, for fast trade we now use a protocol called Lightning Network for which no confirmation are needed.

    There's a few questions that I have about how cryptocurrency works that are not addressed in this video, specifically, the costs of transactions and storage: 1.) How much storage space does a ledger take up? If everybody has to have a copy of it, won't it eventually become so big that average consumers won't have hard drives big enough to store it? If so, how would it still be reliable? 2.) How much energy does it cost to actually mine a coin, and how does that cost not offset the value of the mined coin?
