Is Sam the Cooking Guy's Nakiri "Essential?" | A Chef's Review
Тәжірибелік нұсқаулар және стиль
Sam the Cooking Guy says this nakiri is essential, but does it hold up? I used it instead of my regular chef's knife at work for a week and give you an honest review.

Shun vs Wusthof vs whatever you normally use, what are the differences and which would you pick for different tasks and why.

I think maybe going through the different types of knives (chef knife, Nakiri, Cleaver, etc.) and showing how (what for) you should use them and what would be the main differences. Might be too educational but sounds like something i would watch.

you've mentioned your knifebag a couple times, I'd love to know what actually goes into a knifebag and what each thing tends to be used for at your job (I know it won't be like, universal or anything) also it would be really cool to see a video of like, not beginner tips. but common things that people either under or overprioritize in the kitchen compared to how useful they are. like cutting board selection, maybe also also, would you ever consider reviewing like, the cutco knife block for example? it'd be interesting to see how knives sold via less traditional means can fare against regular for-sale ones. obviously that would be more expensive and significantly harder to actually carry out/analyze, but even if you did just one at a time I think that would be really cool. knives aren't really talked about enough and I feel like they're a really important part of the kitchen experience this is a lot of requests at once but I'm really interested in the kinds of things you can offer. there are a lot of cooking channels out there but I feel like not many of them are as pragmatic or grounded as you have the ability to be, and this could really help you find your footing on youtube

Another solid review, and no worries about being nitpicky. That's an important thing for reviewers to be

I'm really into the idea of having an alternative product ready as a recommendation for a product you're not crazy about. I also would love to see a video outlining what your knife kit looks like for work and what products you personally use. Great video, technical issues aside. These are the kind of really specific, knowledgeable expert reviews that I find weirdly enjoyable to watch. It's stuff like Steve1989 and Forgotten Weapons' reviews on stuff I have next to no experience or information on, but you can tell the reviewer knows a lot and goes into specifics I didn't know existed.
Honesty in reviews is important.
i’m always surprised that these youtuber knifes are actually decent

The thing is you could get a Tojiro Santoku in VG-10 for the same price, this thing is only .55% carbon with a max hardness of 56 HRC. Just Poor edge retention

“Average” or even “mediocre” would be more realistic. You can get a santoku that has the same stats for less than half of this one, or a real nakiri with higher carbon% and a universally better handle for less than $80.

Nice, thorough review! It's a shame that the spine was digging in while you were using it, that can really take away from what could otherwise be a pretty decent knife.
Sick review man, you're so knowledgable :) always appreciated

Can you please post a link where you got the nakiri knife. The actual nakiri knife

You like VG10? I find the edge rolls over too easily when I have a tight angle hone. My shuns get dull quick because of it.
What's Your opinion of the Enzo 7" bunka ?
Glad I found you man, your reviews are straight to the point and really interesting since you clearly know what you're talking about. Keep up the good work man, I look forward to seeing more vids in the future 😎👍

Have you reviewed any Misen knives?

Alternate channel name: "Fiery about Knives"
I have been a pro chef, and am working in post pandemic kitchens. This knife is a stoner KZreadr knife, nothing more. I would buy this as a novelty to support him making stoner food on KZread. I feel the Babish knife is geared more towards actual "foodies," although maybe not pro chefs/cooks.
@CanadaJarod

I don't think that Sam works as a chef in the restaurants he owns and I believe it shows here. This knife is obviously fine to use on a cooking show, but the ergonomics don't seem to have been properly done for regular use. It certainly shows off just how strong the Babish knife was if nothing else.
@thecookseye7383

@@CanadaJarod for sure, the biggest thing that home cooks who aren’t familiar with knives don’t understand is primary grind and distal taper. Anything that’s chunky behind the edge just won’t perform well Even when the edge is sharp

In my opinion this knife is just a novelty, babish’s knife is home cooks and Brad leones knife the big boy is an actual knife that works well in pro kitchens as it’s made by Lamson a well respected knife company or fell knives if you want one of the custom ones
Love your honest and direct reviewing style

the shape is closer to a nakiri than I expected, but I can tell even on video that thing isnt ground like any decent nakiri. but then if you gave the average home cook in the US an actual nakiri it'd turn into a band saw within a month.
Thank you for your honest review!

You should do an overview of chef knife types and steel varieties commonly used Ala pros and cons. Also a knife skills demo and common problems in knives would be cool. Finally, perhaps a video recommending different knives at an ascending bbudget? Hope this helps, Great channel!
Love the knife reviews, man. I'm really starting to get more into knives and trying out a lot of different ones, so it would be cool to see you maybe take us through a tour of your daily knife roll! Also, I was curious to maybe buy that Kyoku you have. Is yours the Damascus steel one in the link? It didn't look like Damascus in the video. Lol
Subbed! I appreciate you being truthful in your reviews instead of just trying to appease every person who makes a custom knife.
I just received two Nakiri knives for my birthday. Wusthoff Classic IKON. I came into the interest for these knives later in life. I’m 73. Picked the IKON handle. It felt more comfortable. Don’t plan on any speed records slicing and chopping. They slice like silk.
Great and informative review. I cook lots but have never been a knife guy. This makes me want to learn more about good knives and buy one.

I’d love to see your work bag/knife kit, I also work in an Italian restaurant and am currently using a drum stick bag over a knife roll as it fits the same number of knives with a smaller on table footprint
Good honest review. Thx.

Do they talk about why they called it a hollow ground knife or are you assuming that they call it that because of the divots in the blade?
Hey, just wanted to comment both for the algorithm and to say I really like your knife reviews and would love it if you kept making more of those, if possible.

Great intro. Simple and gets the point across.
You’re cracking me up … but knowledgeable at the same time. Love it.

Tossing a comment here because your content is lovely and I'd love for more people to see real cooks on y outube.
I’m so glad this review popped up on my feed, I have been thinking about buying a new knife for the house (just and average knife using guy, not a chef or line cook) since I dropped my primary cutter off the kitchen table and it split into two. I was thinking about getting his knife but now I will get the one you suggested!
