Is Omega about to Release the 60th Anniversary Seamaster 300? (165.024)
Ойын-сауық
A Discussion around Omega, their absence and the chance of them Reissuing the 60th Anniversary Seamaster 300. 1963 was an important year for Omega, for the first time placing the Seamster in a Professional Case. A very popular choice for recreational swimmers and divers, a few year later it would be a watch chosen by the Ministry of Defence and serve as the primary template for later evolutions of the infinitely more popular Rolex Milsub. COMEX would then also accept these Seamaster 300's for a time. The significance of this Seamaster is difficult to measure, not only how it developed as a sports watch but how it pushed the future of the dive watch as a tool and instrument.

Omega has been very quiet for 5 months, it’s the Seamaster 300 165.024’s 60th Anniversary Year and Omega doesn’t like to miss their 60th Anniversaries. What do you think? Will we be seeing this brought out as a Reissue / Special Edition? Everything seems to be pointing in that direction BUT we’ve been disappointed before ;)

Honestly I’m not bothered if they don’t. I think Omega has had problems recently fulfilling orders from snoopy, Ed white and others plus Aqua terra dial problems/ delays. They need a quiet year I think.

I think a better move than releasing a reissue is to release a thinner Planet Ocean but with 300 WR in a 40 or 42. Since the 165.024 is what the PO is trying to be, then this move would be the perfect nod to the vintage Seamaster without overshadowing both it and the SMP.

It would be amazing to see it realised and since they smashed it with the 57 Trilogy and Ed White, it just feels correct that they'd drop the 165.024 😉 A pleasure to share this Wills and thank you!

They should, because this is one of the best looking dive watches ever made. These would sell like crazy. Especially if they have all the goodies of the co-axial movement and a top-tier flat link bracelet. Make it without a date for symmetry and it will be perfect.
Bought mine in 1979 and it has been in my family ever since. Has it completely rebuilt in 2010 by Omega, kept all the old parts. The only weakness was the bracelet which was never man enough for the job. Contained small springs like the early submariners. Much better on a NATO.
Hey. On your intro I was saying yes, yes and smiling 😄

It was a peculiar choice they went with... a more modern size but even older looking dial than the original Ck2913. Since that's now their "heritage" 300, maybe they'll allow for this Special Edition 300 to slot in there somehow? 🥃
@JohnSmith-jj2yd
Жыл бұрын
I could imagine they'll do a normal steel version and some exotic titanium or ceramic version as a limited edition knowing Omega. The issue they've always had with the SM300 Heritage is it sat awkwardly in the middle of the SM300Pro, Planet Ocean, Black Bay and Submariner (back when they were available), and depending on what price and style most consumers wanted, they would tend to gravitate to the other alternatives. I can see this sitting awkwardly with the SMP and SM300 lines, but then again it is Omega and they aren't exactly miserly when it comes to additional product lines! 😂
A long time ago I had an SMP and found that even a little bit of water and I couldn’t hope to move the bezel. Then I got into the PO and after that I found the 165.024/5. I would love to see a premium new version of that come out.
It’s either this or the 54 for me
9:50 I'd buy that right now.

Great job. I can see an LE 1 to 1 for their loyal customers then a variant for the masses. You did highlight one small issue I have with the brand - the mind numbing list of variations. Before a trip to their website one really needs a good meal then a restroom break. And from the reports that the W&W has turned into a zoo, who can blame them for not bothering?

Purchased a 1963 one a month ago. Mark 1 bezel (thin font), SWISS MADE dial without the 'T's, 1506 bracelet, naiad crown, the works. Unfortunately you cannot wear it often precisely because it is rare and in very good condition. No diving, not at work, not when travelling. More like for quiet weekends...
Great video. I wish Omega would take a different direction in releasing this watch by creating a more wearable Seamaster following in the footsteps of this design with no He escape valve. It's frustrating... I wish so many pieces today had far more realistic prices🥃
....and the long march continues. 🍻
Here's hoping - an excellent, impassioned plea! I'd agree, if it wasn't for the Fifty Fathoms. SWATCH cannot afford to queer the pitch for Act 3, which will make or break Blancpain over the short term. They are notoriously careful about crashing big releases - the delayed Type XX held back the Air Command but then the whole retro pilot thing was pulled in response to Breitling's AVI 765 (you'd have thought a trivial matter). As the anniversary of the Seamaster is slightly variable depending on version, they could easily claim next year (or '25, '26, '27...) was the anniversary. But I'm as eager as you - the only everyday diver at the level of the Sub, though I'd like to see a modern update to the design, sans the normal Omega glitz and whimsy.
I think Omega should take some of their vintage designs back, and change a bit more than a color, or a small change on the dial or bezel. Thanks mate for the video.
I’d die for a modern reincarnation of this watch! FMD!!
Even if Omega did bring back the old Seamaster 300, I don’t have any faith in their design department to get it right. They’ll do at least one thing to botch it, like put a count down bezel on it, make it larger, use the skeleton hands, etc. *The only change I wouldn’t mind seeing is a switch to the standard round hour markers/cross layout found on the current Seamaster Co-axial (and most other divers). That would be a proper merging of the past & present designs I could get behind.
@ID-Guy
Жыл бұрын
The only thing that bothers me is they might make an excellent 1:1 recreation of the watch but the thickness might be an issue...somehow they end up cranking out 18mm thick cases and find it acceptable 😆
I really hope you're right about it coming out. I really hope you're wrong about it being an expensive 321 Ed White type of product. A 1:1 reissue would have me reaching for my credit card without a doubt... but there's been something about Omega these last few years that makes me think that they can't quite trust their original designs. The 1957 Trilogy was the last time they did and that was quite a while ago now... The 321 Ed White reissue is a case in point - why the sapphire sandwich? It's not historically correct or space-compatible, and while I get that the movement was a thing for many collectors who might like to see it, strange that they don't offer it in the hesalite/solid case back flavour. And so, I find it difficult to believe that Omega is capable or reissuing the 165.024 1:1. A display case back seems inevitable. While I hope to be proven wrong, I am preparing for disappointment. Fingers crossed.
Some questions that came to mind while watching: What was the very first Seamaster with a GMT hand? The first with a 24 hour bezel? Was it post-2000 or is there a historical reference? I wonder if the Seamaster 300 heritage line will see a GMT version, since they've been willing to add some modern elements to the latest iteration of it...
I would love to see it, but it's not going to happen. It would compete directly with the [current] Seamaster 300 in their Heritage Collection. Which, not incidentally, was updated only a couple of years ago.

Are you ever going to revive your epic live streams?
I wouldn't mind if they used the Planet Ocean platform for this. Of course, a '57 trilogy approach would be coolest. But if they tweak an existing platform, like with the anniversary Bond Seamaster, the Planet Ocean is the one. Heck, the first gen 2201 POs the were clearly a "grandchild" of the mil-spec Seamaster 300. The modern POs are too shiny and luxury-centered, but replacing the bezel with aluminum (or matte ceramic / brushed steel etc.) and adding a custom dial and handset would go a long way.
I hope they release it, but I am sure it will be as limited and wait listed as the Ed White. Probably in the same price range as well...

Got that gut feeling that it's going to happen (and they've been verrry quiet about it) So! Maybe around June - July we'll get a sniff 🔥
CWC MK2 watches look like this.

They based their design around the Seamaster 300 specs in a lot of ways, pretty awesome how they were able to keep the template 🥃
Personally, I'd love a 60th anniversary 300. However, I think they've been quiet as the roll out of last year's Aqua Terra in the colourful dials, plus the green SMP300 has been difficult to say the least. I was in Switzerland a few weeks back and the Omega boutiques in both Zermatt and at Zurich airport didn't have any 2022 models for sale. They had them in the store, but as 'preview models'. It's been a shambles.

There has to be supply issues holding them up. I've heard numerous reports that are the same about the lack of stock! Crazy to think... maybe they really are very, very behind on schedule 😆🥃
I suspect that if they could get away with it, Omega would release semi-anniversary limited editions too.
Isn’t it the 60th year of the 165.014? That’s the reference I really want but I’d happily hand over my money for either

Hey we never know! The 014 might get its time in the spotlight (actually thought about it a lot) Since it falls into that "transitional" region, I don't think Omega would put it ahead of their 024 BUT man... give me a straight lug case any day 😉🥃
